GTA 5 lost "that GTA feel"?

Not tending to nitpick, but since a lot of people have already talked about special superpowers, reducing to 5-star wanted stars, A.I, combat, driving, etc, I also believe that the new HUD designs reduce that "GTA feel". Not something that I'd rate the game down for, but I still prefer the classic HUD of weapons, radio stations and circular radar to GTA V's more "modern-like" ones. Something I also prefer is that the game doesn't slow down when switching between weapons and radio stations.

I didn't mind the UI changes that much in comparison, though I understand the feeling. I wish there was a (modless) way to turn off the wheel slowdown effect in singleplayer, but at least it's possible to cycle forward through the radio stations without opening the wheel.

I don't get why people had a problem with the reduced wanted level. imo, it was more realistic because the army just doesn't get out of their base just to catch one guy.

I'll admit 5 star limitation isn't that bad (although it kinda affected the "GTA feels", IMO). But still, GTA IV had a 6-star scale without the military so GTA V could have done this too.

Understandable. But IV didn't have a military base in the city so I think IV tried go for some realism as well.

Yeah I don't care about 5 stars instead of 6, unless there's military involvement there's no real need for 6 imo.

I actually do think the game still has a GTA feel and I like the game. But I do see that the GTA feel is reduced in multiples places and why some people would feel it's totally gone. Restrictive and unnecessary rules and limitations both in missions and in free play are the number one problem.

If you're somewhere near the military base, the army will chase you though.

It's a video game. It isn't meant to be 'realistic', it's meant to be fun.

Besides, if this were reality and one was able to kill hundreds of cops, SWAT teams and FBI/CIA agents, I'm sure the government would have no choice but to resort to using the highest grade military weaponry and highest grade trained killers to kill you.

And 5 stars can still be 'fun'.

I don't think six stars would do any good in V anyway. Unlike previous GTA's, the star system isn't very diverse. NOOSE show up at four stars and the higher you go only results in slightly more reinforcements showing up. In a nutshell, this is how it works:

Traditional GTA: Foot cops > Police cars > Helicopter > SWAT > FBI > Army

GTA IV: Foot cops > Police cars > Helicopter > NOOSE/FIB > More NOOSE/FIB > More NOOSE/FIB + Annihilator

GTA V: Police cars (foot cops don't spawn) > Police cars > Helicopter > NOOSE > More NOOSE

Even GTA IV with its limitations had more diversity since it had the FIB.

I would strongly disagree. GTA V I feel keeps the GTA feel, and trims some of the fat. Personally I think it's the best (unpopular opinion here I know), I feel the only thing it's really missing in terms of feel would be world building. In GTA IV, there were missions where you had to go do specific activities like going on a date with Michelle, or surfing the web to set up a fake date with someone. GTA V unfortunately is missing stuff like this, only interested in telling it's own story, nobody else's. So I would say that was the only thing that got lost between games.

GTA Online on the other hand....well, let me just show you a screenshot of the description of an update and I'll let you come to conclusions...

Well, after watching the few latest DLC trailers of GTA 0 (Online, whatever), going back to GTA V feels like taking a fresh breath of air. No matter how much I find it different from its predecessors, it still feels more "GTA" than whatever GTA Online is supposed to be. And I'm saying that as someone who doesn't really have interest in it whatsoever.

I'm so sorry for all the fans of this game, but I could not open up to GTA V's story either after Trevor goes to LS. Not entirely happy with gameplay either. Arcadey driving is fun for a while, but for me it starts to feel hollow and sterile by time, which is weird since I still find driving in 3D era games oddly satisfying despite their primitiviness. At times I feel I only play this game out of obligation since the 2010s did not bless us with a better game in the genre.

I gave this game multiple chances but to no avail. To me, it to some extent lost "that GTA feel" that GTA III, VC, SA and IV all had, while it still feels like a GTA.

As for Online, even goddamn Saints Row feels like a proper GTA in comparison to it now.

I like the multi protagonist setup. GTA5 feels the most GTA-ish game (to me). I love almost everything about it. (There are a few things i dislke such as cops/wanted system, lack of enterable interiors - I mean without mods. With mods you can enter more interiors than ever, kinda short main story and GTA Online latest updates).

Am I the only one who finds GTAV to be challenging? Even in the first missions of the game I died somehow while I never have any problem with other GTA games. It's challenging and I like that

Yeah. I'm still not a big fan of post LS with Trevor, but during my latest playthrough I enjoyed it more than I did before. Ignoring the Merryweather/FIB stuff it still has some cool moments like when Michael and Trevor flee back to Sandy Shores, "Bury The Hatchet" etc.

In the past I probably would've rated the story about 6/10, but now 8? It has its flaws, but with some fresh perspective it made me see more of its positives and it's definitely better than a lot of open world games I've played the gen.

Especially since they have a major role in the story.

I'm not saying that %75 of the missions are relevant to the FIB, but many major turning points are.

That's without even mentioning the Merryweather. Sure, the trio weren't involved with them as deep as they were with the FIB, but they still had too much involvement in comparison to the crime organizations, which on the other hand haven't gotten a fair slice in the story.

tbh way i see it, the whole story is about fib, some operations and michael’s past

It is when you take it on face value since it takes up the bulk of the story, but in saying that I've made the mistake of being misguided by that in my opinions of the story over the years simply because I was judging it by that aspect alone. I don't even mind the FIB stuff necessarily since basically every GTA has a shady government angle. I just would've preferred if was in smaller volume. The Merryweather arc though? Not a fan of it all. The Merryweather heist is easily the worst heist in the game and the whole thing feels like it's catered to COD fanboys. Even by GTA standards it's too silly.

However when I push those things aside for a moment the "traditional" GTA parts GTA V has are done very well. My favourite part post L.S is all those cars we steal for Weston. It makes me feels like I'm in Gone In 60 Seconds and lives up to the "GTA" name. It would've been cool to have seen more things like that.

As someone who's always been a pretty vocal critic of the story now with some fresh perspective I feel it has more redeeming qualities than I first realised. Sure it's no GTA IV, RDR 1/2 etc, but as a stand alone experience I think it's better than it's given credit for. Put it this way if I of all people can be swayed than anyone can.😛
