mouse & keyboard vs game pad

so, as most of your guys here, i also play on pc. but have never touched the game with a mouse and keyboard. which gives me the disadvantage but once u get handy with the controller you can be just as good as mouse and keyboard. especially in races.but for a while now i've been wanting to learn to play the game on keyboard so that i can finally participate in deathmatches and freemode combat. because its something i've never done due to playing on a xbox 360 controller.

but would it be a waste of time? is there really a bigger benefit for combat when using a mouse?

i know controller is best for driving which is why i'd always switch to it for races

The benefit is with the mouse really, aiming is very accurate with a mouse and muscle memory is a big benefit too. Controllers are decent but you have a disadvantage, the size of it is subjective though.

If you do use a controller in combat do yourself a favor and switch the Control Type to something better than the default, I suggest StandardFPS2 so you can run, aim and look around simultaneously... and even run around with your snack or armor menu open. The default control type is crippling, even if you used it for years when you switch it should only take about an hour to get used to one that's more intuitive. It's worth the trouble if you plan on running with a controller.

Mouse let's you aim more accurate.
But of course there's no difference if you play with auto aim.

For free aiming, yes. The precision of a mouse in any shooter trumps a controller, and I've found GTAV's thumbstick aiming to be a bit wonky compared to others anyway.

I used to play on free aim lobbies and switch gamepad with a mouse whenever combat started, but I got tired of that and now I play auto aim exclusively. Gamepad is a lot better for driving and walking around. It feel more immersive, plus you have more control over your character's movement.

The only real clear thing I see is that you can make more precise movements aiming with a mouse. By a pretty long way probably, but it's still just one thing.

The actual movement playing on foot - I can't say for sure since I am just a helicopter that plays on console, but I'd imagine the controller's better for that. Would you have to use a couple of keys to change direction on PC? That sounds kind of limited. I'd imagine vehicles are easier with a controller too. I can't really imagine flying helicopters with a keyboard anyway.

But like I said, I can't say for sure.

Well I never felt that using my controller puts me at a disadvantage and I always play freeaim.

I play deathmatches on a regular basis (regular deathmatches, no rng bullsh*t) and I mostly win, it's same with freemode PvP.

I never played gta 5 with mouse and keyboard because my brain is a little f*cked up wich results in a few eye-hand coordination problems.

I play both free aim and auto aim and I find the controller generally easier to use, but for aiming in free aim the mouse is much more effective. I find the advantage is not so much accuracy as speed. You can aim accurately with a controller but not as quickly as you can with a mouse.

I tend to move around with the controller and aim and shoot with the mouse (using my other hand), but it is hard to run and 'steer' on foot at the same time with one hand. Maybe this is why I'm rubbish at PvP :)

even on foot it's faster with a keyboard because when you push the keyboard the input is always 100% and you use one finger per key ...but it's not as smooth imo.

I play on PC with a PS4 controller in free aim only, the only time I notice a huge difference is on turrets, shooting a turret with a controller is so frustrating compared to a mouse.

If you want to turn GTA into FPS - only a mouse. Non, I'm 100% sure, of fancy gamepads will bring that aiming like with mouse.

If not accuracy, just your position when playing, because with gamepad it's mostly chillin' and with mouse it's focused sitting at a table.

I play with X-Box One Recon Controller (It has rubber grips on the backside).

I couldn't imagine playing the game with K & M because i would have to switch between Controller and K & M over and over again because driving and flying is just way better with controller. And i play on my TV so where should i put my mouse there anyway.

Im playing on PC with Full Auto Aim and i have a wireless keyboard near me to be able to use the ingame text chat.

Everything has pros and cons. But I think any player who has the FPS background (Battlefield, CoD, Quake, CS) will always prefer keyboard+mouse over the controller. I don't understand how people can snipe with the controller.

Personally, I can even dogfight with keyboard and mouse and be on the pace with the gamepad pilots.

I mainly use a gamepad, except when I need to shoot something at which point I swap to the mouse. It's also useful for sprinting or swimming since you don't need to hammer a key or change views.

The on-the-go control switching of XInput is one of the biggest PC advantages for me - in the length of time it takes to get out of a car after driving like a console racing game, I can have switched to mouse / keyboard ready to play the game like a PC shooter.

I've never played with any aim assist since the PS3 days so I can't remember what it's like, but one of the big problems with PC ports of FPS / TPS games is the fact that the difficulty drops drastically due to the ease of aiming with a mouse. Vanquish is a prime example, it went from a fairly tough challenge to being a bit of a pushover with mouse aim. GTA SA also became trivial when you could just headshot everything with your first bullet, and GTAV / O PvE are the same.

I’m on Xbox One X and couldn’t imagine playing the game without a controller. I splashed out and bought the Elite Controller which is pretty nice.

I prefer mouse + keyboard because I'm not used to controller (I don't own a console). I can dogfight and play races completely fine since I use numeric keypad as well (WASD + num8456).
The biggest advantage of keyboard + mouse in my opinion is: moving the camera with mouse instead of using a slow analog button; shooting with free-aim of course.

I used to play racing games with a controller. For me, they are better for games like NFS and Mortal Kombat...
