g3DTZ - a GAME.DTZ extraction utility

Recommended Posts

guard3

hello.png :)

g3DTZ is a collection of tools that extract some data from GAME.DTZ; both LCS and VCS versions!

Specifically:

  • IDE
  • IPL
  • SFX.SDT sets (PSP only)
  • Zones (info.zon / map.zon / navig.zon)
  • Path data (flight.dat / ferry1.dat / tracks.dat / tracks2.dat)
  • Colour data (carcols.dat / pedcols.dat)
  • Weapon data (weapon.dat / weapon_multi.dat)
  • Animations
  • CULL.IPL
  • OBJECT.DAT
  • PED.DAT
  • PEDGRP.DAT
  • PEDSTATS.DAT
  • FISTFITE.DAT (LCS)
  • PARTICLE.CFG
  • SURFACE.DAT
  • HANDLING.CFG
  • TIMECYC.DAT
  • WATERPRO.DAT
  • cdimage DIR
  • cutscene DIR
  • GAME.DAT (aka decompressed GAME.DTZ)

How to use?

Simple! Just drag n' drop GAME.DTZ to the appropriate executable.

For example, you should use lcs_psp.exe for a GAME.DTZ from lcs psp etc...

Who to thank?

@The Hero for his storiesconv source and @cj2000 for giving me a headstart!

Where's the download?

Here - v2.0, and don't forget to read the ReadMe ;)
Check it out on GitHub!

How do I export a game.dat file, or it does not work yet?

By game.dat you mean just the decompressed file? If yes, rename game.dtz to game.zlib and drag n drop to this https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/338352146946981889/442752002993160222/zdrop.exe

Thats if you want to read the data yourself, my tool reads and exports the data to normal PC format already.

Big update!

DTZpy is being replaced by g3DTZ!

What is it?

g3DTZ is a collection of tools, written in C++ (no more python) that add extraction support for all GAME.DTZ versions: both LCS and VCS!

Advantages over DTZpy

  • Faster extraction
  • Support for all GAME.DTZ versions
  • Added extraction support for handling.cfg and timecyc.dat
  • More bruteforced names for VCS (however there are still about 700 uncracked ones)

What's included?

  • lcs_psp.exe
  • lcs_ps2.exe
  • vcs_psp.exe
  • vcs_ps2.exe

How to use?

Simple! Just drag n' drop GAME.DTZ to the appropriate executable, for example you should use lcs_psp for a GAME.DTZ from lcs psp, etc...

Where's the download?

Here, and don't forget to read the ReadMe ;)

Sweet update!

g3DTZ v1.1 is out!

What's new?

Extraction support for:

  • cdimage dir (GTA3PSPHR/GTA3PS2)
  • cutscene cdimage (CUTS/MOCAPxx)
  • SFX.SDTs (PSP version)

Oh, and since gtamodding is completely dead and most of my dtz documentation is gone, I figured I'd make g3DTZ open-source.

Check it out on GitHub!

Where's the download?

And what about the other game.dtz data? Can you create a tool that allows you to see all the data in game.dtz as a decompression library?

Thank you!! I’m sorry I’m new to this site.

This may be a stupid question but what can you actually do with the extracted files? Is there a way to modify them and then create a new modded GAME.DTZ?

Ive managed to edit the handling.cfg through DTZ explorer, the problem is saving the new cfg into the iso file

I have sucessfully modifed a PS2 iso with the new handling.cfg I also changed some weapons parameters, boots up like normal and the ''mods'' are working. I used DTZ explorer and Apache3 build 3.1.0. PowerISO does not work on PS2 iso files.

The purpose of this tool is to regenerate the source files as faithfully as possible for stories total conversions. I don't want to mess with regenerating a game.dtz
