Being the Beast: the eternal quest

Just wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to make this happen, or at least is willing to commiserate with me. I've been on GTA:O since launch and played pretty steadily since the Free Roam Events update as well, with just a few months break last year. In all the time since that update (Sept 2015, so two and a half years now!) I've been the Beast in "Hunt the Beast" just two or three times - and all of them were in the first 6 months after the update came out. Since then I have religiously hit the d-pad to qualify, but never ever get chosen.

 

I heard a long time ago that hitting it as late as possible would help, so I've tried hitting it with 5 seconds left, 3 seconds left, even 1 second left... never works. I've also tried hitting it as soon as possible and somewhere in the middle; those don't work either. I've tried being in and out of vehicles when the timer expires to see if it affects my odds of getting chosen. I've tried being in the middle of the busiest part of the lobby and off by myself in the desert. I've registered in packed sessions and some with under 10 players. Nothing I do ever seems to affect it, I just don't get chosen.

 

Anyone else on a cold streak like this? I haven't kept count but I'd estimate I see and sign up for this event a couple times a week on average. A very conservative calculation suggests I've missed being the Beast something like a hundred consecutive times. I'd like to do it again - this is one of the PvP events that people still do even as Penned In, King of the Castle, and others are widely ignored. Hunting is fun, but running and trying to find ways to avoid getting caught, that's my jam.

As far as I know, its absolutely random and has no actual on how it chooses, regardless when you sign up to Hunt the Beast. I've been the Beast about 15 times since Freemode Events was released.

I have a similar but opposite problem... I've had pretty good luck getting picked as the Beast but I rarely get the opportunity; the event just doesn't seem to like popping in my sessions.

 

I'm almost always in fairly full lobbies, generally play for 1-2hours per session and seem to see Checkpoints, Under the Bridge and Criminal Damage at least once a day but can go weeks without seeing Hunt the Beast...

I have been the beast over 40 times and killed over 70.

There are times where I'm not chosen for 20 times in a row, other times I'm chosen 3 times in a row or 2/4 times or something.

 

Feels like if I've become the beast once it'll likely happen again soon.

I've been the beast once....

 

And really, it only happened because somebody was doing Fully Loaded and I was like the only guy not next to a turret limo-aka 'participating' in the VIP work so I got the role. Which was in fall of last year.... my first and only time.

 

 

I sign in every single f*cking time yet never get it.

I admit, I take out my frustrations by using a Hydra to kill the beast once he shows up. I just get so f*cking pissed that I can never enjoy the Beast

I was the beast a few days ago. Hit two checkpoints on a oppressor aaaaaaaand lagged out.

I play almost daily, seen Hunt the Beast about 30 or so times but only been the beast 4 times, though I tend to be the one who kills the beast in the times I've not been chosen. Of the 4 times:

 

1) Died. Didn't realize you could access your weapons or personal vehicles, so I tried driving everywhere in a stolen bus and fist fighting a crew with mini-guns.

2) Won. No one even bothered to come after me, so I hit all the check points in less than 5 minutes.

3) Lost. Everyone left the session. I was too much Beast for them I guess.

4) Won. This last round was unexpected. I just joined the session and somehow registered without knowing, because I was in the middle of robbing a liquor store for my daily objectives when all of a sudden the game froze, NPCs around me started screaming and then I teleported outside and was wearing a red letter jacket. "Well, guess I'm the Beast huh?"

 

Tips:

- Don't hit the check points in any logical order. You have time to space them out and go all over the map. Be unpredictable.

- After hitting a check point, drive in a direction or stay in a general area and then IMMEDIATELY turn and go the other way when you are no longer on radar.

- Use armored or flying armed vehicles if at all possible (seem kind of obvious but you would be surprised how many Beast's I've killed who were on motorcycles or in Karumas, etc).

- If another player is close to you, exit your vehicle so they can't auto target with any rockets or missiles and only get back in when their form of transportation has been destroyed. Beast's are not charged for the insurance, so feel free to blow up them DeLuxo's and Vigilantes.

Using armored vehicles still leaves you vulnerable to explosions. My first time I used an insurgent and I was killed by a jet and my insurgent didn't even blow up.

Go for a jet once you are the beast for 30mins of ghosted jet griefing. To answer your question, I think it best to be on foot walking if you are in car I do not think you will be selected for the transformation cut scene. Also, I think your rank matters because almost everytime I see the event a level 40 or lower is the beast. If you scroll through online players you can determine who the beast is. No idea of my tips are code based, just trial and error for me. I have only been the beast a handful of times.

There is a message in the top left if you are in a jet, helicopter, etc you cannot paticipate in this event while in a vehicle. Or something along those lines. Do not know the exact wording.

One of the only times I was the Beast, I was in a car and it teleported me out. I've also seen a guy get chosen when he was flying a jet (he must have registered before he took off) - it was confusing for a second because his icon disappeared right next to me. I thought he had gone off radar at first but ended up killing him myself a few minutes later.

 

I would believe that there's a rank bias though. I'm 860ish and as I said, I never get selected. And it seems like whoever gets it is like 90% of the time a very low rank who doesn't know what they're doing (and thus is easy for me to hunt... can't even count how many Beasts I've killed by now).

Out the umpteen thousand times this event comes into my game, I have yet to every be chosen, despite all the "please pick me please pick me's" I throw into the wind.

 

I sincerely believe that GTAO knows what we think, want, and do and most times just likes to muck with our heads.

I'll give it a try. Bless you if it works. Though at this point I have low hopes. I wish the game would track how many times you've registered for it without being the Beast, and the longer you go, the more it weighs in your favor. If it's truly random (or weighted by factors you can't control like rank), that's rather annoying. It's fun to play as the Beast, shouldn't have to wait literally years to get to do it.

Yeah, everytime I have been, I was on foot and had forgotten I was in the running. Most times I clicked it, and get it in a car or vehicles anyway. I dont think its impossible to be selected while in a vehicle, just seems like lowers your chances alot. As I said, no evidence other than my own experience. I do know there is a message saying your cannot be in the event if your in a jet and maybe thats beacse the dpad funtionailty is for something else in a vehicle. I do not know.

Your best bet is to buy multiple PS4's and have multiple accounts and go online into the same session, then switch to the PS4 who ends up being beast

 

you can also try using multiple accounts on the same ps4 and all loading into the same session and swapping between characters (not sure if it would disconnect the character from online though)

I usually seem to be in a heli/jet due to just having finished a VIP work when I get the Beast register alert. So I bail and just stand there in place, doing nothing and waiting to see if I'm the chosen one.

waiting till the timer has only 1 second (or even half a second) left before i press right on d-pad to participate have always worked for me. 8 out of 10 times i will be the beast unless there are low levels around.
