Should Trevor be considered the worst GTA character ever created?

Absolutely.

His psychopathic attitude was way too overdone. It feels like they intended to mix a lot of psychopathic and/or, more or less, weird attitudes in his character. Drug addict, sociopath, edgy, bully, bisexual and cross-dresser.

I gotta agree on that, trevor on the other hand was made pysychotic so we will have some sort of new experience with a protagonist, although I don't really appreciate him.

Can't do that if I always see a new member post something that's not even worthy of a bump, bump a thread from 2012..

Keep in mind that he also quoted to a year old post.

Well the thread is going we might as well post something. It's insane how much more I liked Trevor as years passed by after V's release. From hating him from the trailers to absolutely loving his presence in the game. Definitely one of the deepest characters in the series. R* could even go further with him. But they didn't. Just as they could with most of the things in V.

I can agree with OP on most parts except that Johnny's death doesn't bother me too much these days (I mean we could've at least had a few missions beforehand) and I don't care much about his hygiene. All in all, Trevor's just my least favorite video game protagonist, and people in this thread have explained their reasons on why Trevor's a crap character better than I can. In fact Jimmy would've been a more interesting protagonist than Trev ok that would actually be worse

No. Maybe he's crazy but at least he has a lot redeemble factors that make for it. There are a lot characters in GTA that are even more f*cked up

After giving Trevor another chance I don't even think he's that bad. Steve Ogg is a great voice actor and really gets into the role. I love it when he arcs up with Michael calling him a hipster lol. It's probably the funniest moment in GTA V's story. When I take Trevor for what he is I like him much more.

I understand why people like him for creating chaos and the like as he's honestly the only one of the three where it feels natural to go around punching out peds. He's no Niko, but I definitely don't think he's the worst character ever. Hell I don't even think he's the worst protagonist looking back in hindsight. The protagonists of VCS, LCS and San Andreas are worse than him.

Hopefully this won't turn you into SonOfSantos. 😜

Joking aside, I agree. As I stated in some previous post, I also find him much more likable than I remember him to be. Still my least favorite protagonist, but I don't dislike him nearly as much as I used to.

^ What's up SOL? Welcome back.

Yeah, Trevor's alright. There's obviously worst GTA characters out there. Though, I like him more in the beginning, because he starts to go literally insane after he finds out about Brad. He cools down at the end of the plot however.

EDIT: I'm glad you're starting to appreciate GTA V more. It's good to give things a new chance.

It'll probably be a short stay this time around. I've been tied up so much with things going on in life, but I finally caught some time to come back to my GTAF peeps.

I'm up to the part in GTA V where they're just about to do Monkey Business so I haven't got up to that part yet. I have to agree. In a way I feel a bit for him when he realises Michael lied to him all along and basically taking a dump on their friendship.

And yeah. I've always said GTA V's a good game, but some of my criticisms have always probably been a bit too hard at times.👍

It seems like more and more people are starting to appreciate some of the things in V after replaying it after a long time. It's a pretty good thing.

He's a bad character but not the worst character . Still better than Toni Cipriani .
To me , Michael is a good character but i just feel that something is missing to make him one of the best character in the series .

It's like Back To The Future Part II when Marty goes back to the alternative 1985 and Biff has risen to power.

Like I said the other day I'm kinda over arguing/debating about GTA V. It's tiring and exhausting to be complaining about the same things over and over again. It's best to just take it for what it is and just enjoy IMO. Even some of the other characters are growing on me like Solomon, Wade, Ron etc.

Not really. i think he’s the most interesting of the three. he had more thought in his character than the others. they made him complex in a simple way (if that makes sense?). Michael’s an aging man living on past glories and in his vinewood daydreams and Franklin’s just someone who wants to get out of the hood and wants more out of life. Trevor has a bit more depth. You don’t really know exactly what he want and as the game progresses and you do more activities involving him you learn more “important” or interesting things about him

OT: Why would he be the worst in terms of both personality OR their actual reason for existing as a character. There are many others, including protagonists, who fit this bill quite well.

No, that’s a special distinction reserved for Franklin. Trevor is a one-dimensional asshole without much in the way of interesting going for him, I’ll give you that, but I’d take him over that charisma vacuum any day.

V would have been a far superior game if Michael was made the sole protagonist, Trevor was relegated to a side character/comic relief role and Franklin was cut from the final product entirely.

I like Michael the most out of three in terms of his characterisation, but I have to admit in free roam it can get kinda boring unless you want to play tennis or golf with him. He's a great character, but not the best playable one IMO.

As I said above of the three Trevor feels the most natural in free roam since the typical GTA chaos suits his character down to a tee and his side missions/activities are the best in the game. For Michael to be the sole protagonist I think some alterations would have to be made to his character to suit as I can't picture him engaging in rampages or arms trafficking.

With regards to Franklin I honestly don't think he's as bad as some people say. Even if his personality is dry and stale for the most part I really just see that as a consequence of the multiple protagonist mechanic and not giving more screentime to grow since he kinda gets pushed into the background. However in free roam I find him to be neutral since he has some decent activities and his customisation options are the best.

So really I think the three of them each have their pros and cons depending how you look. Initially I was turned off by Trevor and found him irritating and unbearable like some childish attention seeker making a lot of noise just to be "cool", but peeling back his character and seeing him underneath I see what R* were aiming for. He has his redeeming qualities like loyalty which makes him more likeable than I originally remember.

I mean Franklin kinda "had" to be boring IMO. We already had 2 crazy charismatic psychos in the trio so having Franklin to be somewhat "interesting" would be too much IMO. I just like how out of place he seems in all the chaos. Gives a bit of contrast to the other two. I think a guy like him was needed to complete the trio. I just wish they fleshed out his "personal" life more and had more missions with him alone. And in short, had more things going on with him in the story other than Lamar. SP DLC could help but haha...

Coming to think about it that's actually a really good point. He's basically the student while Michael and Trevor to a lesser extent are his mentors so he's sorta got to serve as a middle man so to speak. I just wish after he moved into the Vinewood Hills home as you said he had more missions by himself.

His character growth just seems to stop there unfortunately.

Franklin was more like a "i did my job i'm out type of guy", unlike trevor and michael he couldn't see the jobs that basic because he wasn't a man of action, he was just trying to make money. Seeing more missions about him would be different yes buy what if there'd be more fib missions? staying with 69 missons is better than more fib missions that's for sure, about the dlc, pretty sure rockstar was thinking about it till they noticed online does it better for money

You still remember that I’m your mini me and highest paid goon BTW, right?

With that aside, much like you in the past, I never disliked Trevor for killing Johnny, Clay, and Terry. As you’ve said on another thread (and I agree), it’s kinda on the childish side. All my disliking for Trevor always went for simply his personality and the like. I also agree that Steven Ogg is a great voice actor and that he seems as if he’s REALLY enjoying his role! I also think it’s hilarious when he argues with Michael, who calls him a hipster. Just like you, I think it’s one the funniest moments in all of GTA V’s storyline, if not the ONLY one! I especially like how annoyed Trevor gets. I also can understand why some people like him for creating chaos, among other things. However, liking him myself is gonna be a pretty heavy request, but I don’t think he’s the worst protagonist. The protagonists from GTA 1, Advance, and Online are the ones I’d say are actually worse than him, especially because they’re all bland, forgettable, and practically useless. Additionally, I dislike Claude Speed from GTA 2 more than Trevor. I also truly believe that Claude Speed is a completely different character from GTA III’s Claude and I personally cringe when people confuse them for each other.

The problem with Trevor imo is that he's depicted as a total bully, he's just written to be unlikeable. I don't really hate him nor am I really fond of him, I like the new approach of having a deranged protagonist, however some stuff could have been fleshed out better I think. Nothing happens without a cause. His behavior reminds me of typical douchebags that I know, drug addicts, racers and the likes. They have a weak personality themselves so they seek other weak people to push them around and come across as the big bad guy. That's the case with Trevor. I still find him to be a better protagonist than Michael (when I was playing V I only switched once to Michael for a brief moment, rest of the time I spent playing as Trevor or Frankie), though he's average at best when comparing to protagonists like Niko or Tommy. Actually now that I look at it I really don't like quite a few of the protagonists to a degree or I just didn't care for them at all (mostly talking about GTA1 and London here).

I just hope that GTA VI will offer us a protagonist comparable to the original Max Payne, personally my favorite protagonist of any video game so far.
