To those that want freeaim to be mandatory for every player:

Whoever wants freeaim to be mandatory for all players because "autoaim is for noobs" should be forced to drive certain vehicles being in manual transmission with clutch from old jalopies to sports cars without telling the player which car they stole is an auto or manual. They also better not complain about a hotwiring minigame or knowing if the previous driver wore out the clutch. Also each weapon should wear out for extended use so aiming should be slight inaccurate if you consider wind direction.

If it's set in Vice City, there should be a mission where a hurricane occurs and you're trying to snipe someone but the storm is messing up your aim therefore having to calculate wind direction.

In a serious tone:

This is a sarcastic poke fun towards people that want R* to remove the auto-aim feature on weapons. Sadly there are some people out there demanding that the future GTA game should have auto-aim removed and force casual players to git gud. If they want to play that card, then they are in no position to act like a double standard princess complaining about realistic vehicle mechanics / wear and tear. Fair game.

Also, those would actually be good ideas, but more for a Far Cry game than GTA. And Chinatown Wars had a hotwiring minigame.

Well the golf minigame already takes wind direction into account, That should be fun in connection with a hurricane.

ITT - Wah wah people want autoaim done away with for "realism" so I want the whole game to be "realistic" because I want you all to suffer with me.

Also:

>implying driving a manual is comparable to the game automatically aiming onto targets for you

>implying a minigame to hotwire vehicles that was already in Chinatown Wars is comparable to the game automatically aiming onto targets for you

>implying Far Cry-esque weapon degradation and other wind mechanics is comparable to the game automatically aiming onto targets for you

As a PC user, I'm fine with using manual gears, as long as the game has controller support, I'll be using the triggers to shift up and down, and X to accelerate and [] to brake.

I am also fine with free aim because I use the mouse for that reason.

Because I'm unable to drive automobiles in real life, I have no idea how a clutch works but I'd be interested if I was taught.

Why do people want mandatory free aim? The only reason I use free aim is because auto aim often has me aiming at stuff I don't want to aim at, like say I want to shoot a car but it keeps locking on to a pedestrian who happens to be close.

Because GTA is still the only game with full on auto-aim, and it's 2018. Ever since the PS2 era we've had proper aiming sticks so there's no excuse to not have to aim.

But it's optional. I mean, unless you're talking about online play, why do you even care what people do in single player? Just switch yours to free aim and stop getting up in people's business.

Im fine with auto aim on by default and it being togglable via the options menu. Those who play at a more leisurely pace or my case, those who have gotten a bit rusty due to long periods away from the game have the option to get into the game and enjoy it without the frustration of frequently missing shots while we try to get used to the controls again. Things like that can make the game lose its appeal to some.

Obviously for those used to the controls the option to add some difficulty via free aim, no HUD ect should have the ability to do so.

I think its that typical case of "I do it this way so everyone should follow" with some people. The good news is those who tend to have them views also tend to not have too much of a sway for a company that wants people of all skill levels to enjoy.

Because I'm unable to drive automobiles in real life, I have no idea how a clutch works but I'd be interested if I was taught.

The trick to driving with the clutch is "fast down, slow up". Put the clutch down quickly to change gears both to a higher or lower gear depending on speed, road conditions like hills and slopes and slowly lift it up whilst gently altering the gas pedal to get the car to move smoothly and to avoid potentially damaging the vehicle or.

The aim is to get the clutch to the sweet middle spot, the bite. Get it too low and the car won't move but get it too high and the car could bounce and cut out which isn't a good thing when on a hill though you can swing your gas foot onto the brake pad, put the handbrake on and try again, lifting the Hand brake when the car leans forward slightly to indicate that youve got it before lowering the handbrake as you. move (it gets easier after the first gear) .

A bit of a juggling act at first but once you get used to it driving manual soon becomes second nature. Clutch and gas go together but in case of problems such as hill starts, the gas foot hits the brake, the handbrake goes up and the clutch goes down while you change gears and try again.

Thats the jist of it. Hope it gives you a rough idea how it works.

GTA has auto-aim because it's not a skill based shooter, and it seems fairly clear that Rockstar want you to be able to experience the breadth of their sandbox with ease, whether you're a shooter-genre veteran or someone who's never played a non-mobile game before. They're trying to cater to the widest possible audience, which makes a lot of sense since GTA is one of the few franchises that extends well beyond the video game community and into the general entertainment sphere, and well...if you've seen people picking up a controller for the first time and trying to play a shooter, you'll quickly see the need for auto-aim if there's a lot more to your game than shooting.

I used to extensively play shooters at the PC but now prefer consoles for technical and practical reasons. However I never got used to propper aiming on a console and so I prefer auto aim and rather 3rd person games than 1st person shooters.

I think the idea for this thread is absolutely silly. NOT that I am not in favor of manual aim. Hell, I enjoy it myself. But the real question is how much of a pompous, elitist, self-indulgent preacher does one have to be to demand that everyone who plays the game to have to be limited the way you can already limit yourself just by a two second toggle in the pause menu? How much of a busybody does one have to be to care how other people choose to play the game? I am a gamer, NOT a fundamentalist, born again gamer. Let people enjoy the game the way they choose.

Oh, and lest I forget, its a fact that people who are good at manual aim will always have an advantage in Online, for those who care about that aspect of GTA. So you can't even make an argument that auto-targeting gives players an unfair advantage, because if anything it is a handicap for the people not aiming manually.

Fortnite is a free aim based game. Its the most popular game right now and they didn't even have to cater to their fan base. If 12yr olds can complete with professional gamer like Ninja, RiceGum, Logan Paul, and other with free aim. I bet gta lobbys will fill up much faster, cause all we want is to play against or alongside other players.

Fortnite has assisted aiming by default with controllers, assisted aim is default on basically any console shooter, even if it isn't obvious.
