This is a thread dedicated to the game Driver Parallel Lines & you can share your memories , thing's you enjoyed about the game, & many other memories.

tumblr_p78p8dZizJ1txf5loo1_540.jpg

Probably one of the best Driver games in the series & a very underrated game in my opinion because i never see anyone talk about it.

This thread will also include a 100% guide just in case you're willing to head back into the 2006 classic.

I remember when this game released back in 2006 & It got negative reviews because it didn't feature the most well known protagonist John Tanner , but instead a new protagonist by the name Terry "The Kid" Kidumms or TK for short form a 18 year old getaway driver & hitman ...

I personally think this is the best one in the Driver series & yes it's considered a Grand Theft Auto Clone, but that doesn't mean it's not good because it's actually a amazing game with a very detailed storyline & memorable characters..Also this game puts Driv3r out of it's misery .

I agree 100% considering it was a pain in the ass to lose the tail in the game .

Looks like an amazing game. I remember seeing some stuff about it like, 10 years ago, in fact it was the first walkthrough I ever saw on YouTube, before YouTube was kind to gaming, and now I really want to try it out for myself even tho some people say it is quite glitchy. But then again, earlier GTAs were too, so I might try it out.

Driver: Parallel Lines was a great title with very interesting story, I've completed it couple of times and I would definitely play it again. It's definitely worth trying and it wasn't as glitchy as some people made it to be.

I think that Driver: Parallel Lines was a great game aswell, I played it on both the Xbox and PC. The story was also interesting, and I liked the era change that occurs around halfway through the plot, going from 1978 to 2006. The side-jobs are quite fun and the music selection is fantastic (especially in the 1978 era). It's impressive how Reflections managed to get a scaled down version of New York (plus a bit of New Jersey) in a game like this, when some games set in New York only had Manhattan to explore (with a bit of Brooklyn or Bronx if you were lucky).

Although, I can definitely see why this game is considered to be the black sheep of the Driver series: it didn't star Tanner, and his fate wouldn't be explained until the 2011 game Driver: San Francisco, and Parallel Lines was unfortunate enough to come out after the debacle that was DRIV3R. Interestingly, this was the last Driver game to be published by Atari, who published the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions in 2006, before the main developer of the Driver series, Reflections, was bought out by Ubisoft that same year, who later published the Wii and PC versions the following year. There was also a spin-off game released for the PSP titled Driver '76, which has most of the same features and some of the same music as Parallel Lines, but with a unique storyline, taking place 2 years before the events of Parallel Lines and has Ray as the main protagonist. I think of Parallel Lines as a spin-off game of the Driver series rather than a main entry, similar to Battlespire and Redguard, which were two Elder Scrolls games made to fill in the gap between Daggerfall and Morrowind.

Driver 76 looks interesting as well, but unfortunately i don't have it . I've seen walkthroughs on the game though & it really looks like another Parallel Lines , but instead on handheld

I agree considering i never had any issues with glitches in the game, but i do have to say as I've already mentioned before is that this game puts Driv3R out of its misery for good.

When Driver SF released i could pretty much tell that they tried to make the series go back to its roots like Driver 1 & 2 , but i didn't exactly enjoy it for some reason

You should definitely pick this game up

If you want to see a glitchy experience then just look at Driv3R lol

Yeah, I saw some stuff about that too. The worst of wall was them buying reviews, releasing that and then trying to cover it up (aka. Driv3rgate).

A good game in many ways. The driving is fairly solid for an arcade, the story is decent, I loved collecting cars off the streets and saving them in the garage, completing the races and unlocking the race cars, getting perfect driver bonuses for extra cash, which I didn't spend at all, because I collected 50 stars in each era to unlock free garage parts. My computer easily manages 60fps and beyond at 1080p and looks good in many ways.

But what was most important is that I share the same initials as the protagonist, TK.

I showed my dedication to the game by making a playthrough of all but 3 side missions of Driver: Parallel Lines, featuring both the 1978 and 2006 eras, for the PC, because they don't seem to spawn no matter what I do.

It includes the circuit and GP races, perfect deliveries, taxi missions, steal to orders, checkpoint races, stick-ups, survivals and much more.

Vegeta1459 is my channel name which features 2 playlists of both eras and its activities.

Amazingly underrated game with an equally amazing aesthetic and soundtrack

Perhaps the biggest thing ive enjoyed about it was the era shift from 1978 to 2006, i dont think there were any other games that followed this idea since

Always boggled me how people could love GTA so much yet disregard this game. In many ways it's also closer to GTA IV than any other game. Certainly, the police chase system in IV was inspired/borrowed from Driver: PL.

Very underrated game. Was sorely disappointed it wasn't followed up. Again, this was 2006 and few games slipped under the radar. Why? GTA IV was being expected on next gen, next gen (Xbox 360) was announced or even released by then. Games like Scarface: The World Is Yours and The Warriors came out at the end of console life-cycle and everyone all ready had eyes for the next gen and kind of overlooked these little gems.

I remember having the garage and when your car got totalled you could reclaim it. That was nice. It certainly had nice features I wished were in GTA at the time.

True Crime NYC is another one that got sucked into the mid 2000s vortex. GUN too.

If I remember correctly, Parallel Lines got a strange Wii port, and then vanished.

Curiously, the Wii version of Driver SF reuses many of the assets from Parallel Lines. It's a very weird game which I haven't got to play.

I'd replay Driver 76 but I bricked my PSP and it's the one game that emulators can't run properly. It's basically Parallel Lines with lower quality graphics and without the 2006 part.

I loved both of those games. But True Crime NYC is buggy on every system and barely playable on modern PC's, and GUN was so obviously rushed for next gen release, I would be pissed about it to this day if RDR2 for the PC wasn't on the horizon.

Holy sh*t I remember playing this game on PS2, good times. The Driver games were really underrated, I always had good fun with them. I even enjoyed playing Driv3r which a lot of people thought was sh*tty. To be fair, it probably was. Parllel Lines was legitimately very good.

Honestly I know people love GTA but there is definitely a lot of other series out there that in a lot of ways did many things better than GTA and had more fun factor. True Crime, Driver, Getaway etc. Even Watch Dogs 2 open world was better than many GTA maps.

I see. 😂 Back then I just played games very casually and I don't think I cared about anything going on outside of them. I actually miss those times a little bit, felt like my perspective didn't get skewed and I just played games for what they were. Even if they were glitchy/a bit sh*tty, it didn't bother me as much. Sometimes I think I care too much about certain things, my expectations have got higher as I've played so many games now.

Dunno, I really want Driver 2 and 3 on PS4, they actually hold up together in one story and overall style, unlike Parallel Lines. I'm certain have played Parallel Lines, but don't remember a thing about it, unlike any other game in series, those memories warm up my heart:).

Oh, I know and I feel the same. I liked Driv3r when it was released and I knew nothing about this scandal back then. I just enjoyed games for what they were. But even if I didn't know anything about a game today, that wouldn't be possible. I'd enjoy them a bit more because of the mystery, but I can recognize a bad game when I play one. It comes with age and experience. The same is true with other entertainment mediums such as books, comic books, movies, TV shows and even something as subjective as stand-up comedy.

I got mine on PC (Steam) from a friend a couple of years back, think I put 4 hours into it and then never touched it again. Not that it was bad or anything but guess I got carried away by the other games in my library and never got back around to replaying it.

As far as I can recall, it ran flawlessly which is something that can't really be said for installing 12+ year old games on modern systems as most tend to have their performance and compatibility issues.

I also had the PS2 version, it was the one that came with the steelbook. of course I was a careless child at the time so it's ended up in questionable condition somewhere in storage. (these days I tend to take better care of things)

Never played the Wii port, I did play the PSP "Driver 76" version of it.

I was wondering why I don't remember Driv3r being that buggy at all. But that the end of that video, I learned it patched it on Xbox. I also had a PS2 at the time but I remember when I got Driv3r it was around 2004 or 2005. The replay editor was so much fun. Back then, I think Driv3r was just fun for people like me that were enamoured by this new GTA-style of open world. It was so exciting. So thrilling, so new.

I hadn't a clue about the Driv3rgate. That video was very interesting.

I think I have a copy of Driver PL for PS2 or Xbox. I wouldn't mind having a blast of it today.
