Unhandled Exception @ 004a4d3d

Hi. Bought VC on Steam couple years back, had nothing but trouble getting it to run. this is as far as I've got. Game locks near the end of new game load screen with the error code above.

 

many things have been tried, none have worked. Tried swapping the exe names, tried all compatibility modes from win98-xpSP3. One solution suggested Simple mod, did nothing. there's more I tied but it'd be a pain remembering 2 years of troubleshooting methods.

 

PC/Game specs as far as I'm aware:

Windows 10 (most recent update)

Intel I5

32gb RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 (2nd hand)

 

Steam version of VC, Simple Mod (most recent build) currently installed, no change in immediate effect after mod installation.

Downgrade the game to 1.0. I installed Vice City with disc and downloaded a 1.0 exe no CD. Since i had 1.1.

Actually, if I recall correctly, if you install Cleo it works just fine. It works for me, though of course I'll still downgrade for the most mod support.
