IV Song Removal Due to Licenses expiring.

Recommended Posts

So can anyone confirm that ps3 complete addition has had no songs removed?

I have it and i can confirm that the update is still not ready.I have checked for updates and there is nothing available. Version 1.09 has the cut songs and that is currently the latest. I don't know what versions are safe for the episodes since these come as DLC (installed in 'game data') for the complete edition and not as standalone games.

Is it clear Rockstar are updating installed games or could they just be replacing the ones in the download history/store with new versions? I would not recommend redownloading digital versions.

@Thorpe

You're wrong, song removal patch is still 1.08.

Yep, but it's 1.09 on PS3, it's also available for the retail version that doesn't remove/replace the songs.

EDIT: Maybe this update is EU only.

If anything, it would have been more logical to EXTEND the soundtrack rather than remove songs from it all together, but logic is a concept that seems alien to Rockstar atm.

Interesting. After this damn patch my GTA IV is not running - I had only CryENB V3 installed. Gonna have to delete and download everything again on Steam...

I reinstalled CryENB on EFLC and got a super white shining on the first cutscene, but the game was normal on gameplay. Goddamnit, on every update they manage to f#ck up the game a little bit more.

this is absolutely disgraceful. you mean to tell me that Rockstar, with all the money they made off of gta v cant re buy the licenses for the songs. Give me a break. Even the opening cutscene to the cousins bellic has been ruined with roman stepping out of his cab with some generic russian rap instead of Glukoza Schweine

Freaking garbage. there had to be something that us, the people who spent our money on the game can do. this is like releasing a movie and then issuing an update to every blu ray player and cable version to remove a scene. The radio is what gives gta 4 its atmosphere and several stations have been completely butchered now.

Rockstar has pretty much no respect for any other kind of players any more than those who buy the precious shark cards and naturally people who still play older games aren't part of that demographic. I'm seriously starting to see EA as a pretty ok company after this sh*t.

Every time, I read this crap you're writing. No matter what all of songs has been completely removed from GTA IV due to music license expiring.

Hi guys. As I understand it, in the PS3 version of GTA IV - music has not been deleted?

I have GTA IV and EfLC in two forms - digital copies and on disks. None of the versions were updated at the end of April ... there was no patch. At the moment, I have all the music and I can play freely online.

Why did Rockstar regret PS3 players?

Hi. Disc version will be unaffected on all platforms, except Xbox One (since disk here used only for DRM check).

On PS3. IDK here. But maybe, if you buy PSN version before Apr 26, you can download old version from download history.

On 360. If you redownload game from your purchase history, you got cut song version.

i'm actually in a pretty okay state about this whole thing (kinda)

in January i moved from where i lived and i had to leave my computer behind so that was way before the update, so luckily when i get it back finally next month i can copy all the audio files and make a backup

I just seriously hope when i start Steam, it wont auto update or something. but on topic, the Vladivostok fm removals are just harsh, it's kinda what made the game, the Eastern European overtones and a station that welcomed it.IV without original Vladivostok is like TLAD without LCHC. however, i feel literally no emotion about The Classics and The beat removals, i coincidentally disliked all of the songs that got removed but liked all the other ones on those 2 stations

Just curious; i've got a steam backup of both GTA IV and EFLC from about 2 months ago, any way to retain the original soundtrack?

backup the entire audio folder

Sadly the PSN version was changed for everyone. I bought the game like five years ago, the size was the same until a couple of hours/days ago.

I use PSDLE to dump a list of all my Download list on a weekly basis and the size of the files has been changed. I'm so disappointed.

Does anyone know if the physical "Complete Edition" is compatible with PSN savegames, or at least it shares the trophy list?

I can't guarentee it is but I do know the PSN an retail vanilla IV saves are cross compatible. What you can do is copy your save onto a USB and check the folder ID. It'll be something like BLES99999. If that matches the disc ID of the Complete Edition in your region the save will work fine.

Un-f*cking-acceptable. I'm genuinely horrified by this, not just for how much of a vile thing it is to remove music that is aesthetically indissociable from the game but also by the terrible precedent this sets against video games as a narrative and artistic medium. Just imagine how much bullsh*t it would be if Warner Bros suddenly lost the rights to the Also Sprach Zarathustra performance used in the intro / outro of Kurick's 2001 and not just would they stop selling the original version but even worse, they would also qUITE f*ckING LITERALLY PATCH IT OUT OF YOUR OWN DVD AND BLU RAY COPIES. How can it be video games are not protected from this? How can it be that, one entire goddamn decade after GTA IV is released, you still do not actually own the game itself and instead will pretty much have to submit yourself to whatever corporate alterations the distributor wants to infringe on your copy? We shouldn't let this bullsh*t slide by our radars.

Because when you buy a video game, you're not actually buying the game per say. You're buying a license to gain access to it. It goes for both digital and physical versions. The only thing you 'own' with the physical version is the plastic disk/cartridge the data comes on. It's a horrifying thought, but one that's been true ever since gaming started in the '60s.

The same general principle applies for movies, music and television. Pretty much any form of digital entertainment media. Unless you yourself are the creator and/or rights holder then you don't own it. You never will.

I find that hard to believe. So if Rockstar felt like it, they could release an update for every player who has downloaded gta v that wipes the whole game and replaces it with solitaire?

That's how I understand it. It'd be a terrible move and one they would never do, but nothing would really stop them legally.

Pretty much yes.

Eh...ish. It depends on where you live but if they continued to call this solitaire game GTA5 it may fall foul of consumer rights in some locales. Namely it could be argued that the game they were now providing was no longer GTA5 in anything but name and therefore the content which you purchased a license to was no longer available...AND yes, I do know that their EULA states that they reserve the right to change it at anytime...however it's also true that those EULAs often do not stand up in court, especially in Europe.

Quick question. I have both GTA IV & EFLC in my Steam library. Is Steam version updated to latest patch? Is there any way of getting the removed music back in the game for Steam version?

if you don´t have GTA IV and EFLC installed, then you could re-download the game with the removed music still in it.

but the Downside is that you need to download the whole game with this methode instead of only the audio folder
