IV Song Removal Due to Licenses expiring.

Recommended Posts

This topic is now a rant thread about Cockstar removing songs from GTA IV,feel free to express you opinion about it.

Original Post:

Many news outlets are saying that GTA IV will have songs removed from the game due to licenses expiring, like VC and SA.PS3 owners will get a notification allowing them to download digital copies of the songs,no news for PC or X360 about downloading digital copies of songs. What do you guys think of the situation?I've chosen to backup the audio folder,so if it gets smaller with the patch that removes songs,I can just downgrade and restore it.

In these days I'll probably backup both GTA IV and EFLC folders... I think that you will might have some problems if you only backup the audio files, maybe with the new patch your backupped file will make GTA IV crashing.

Don't worry,I know what I'm doing.I'll see what songs are removed, then downgrade and restore the audio folder,as if I don't,when the game tries to load the missing songs,it'll crash.

Just in case,I'm also creating a compressed backup of the IV folder(I don't have EFLC).

This is ridiculous, they have tons of money from GTA V sales, the game appears in a top 10 of most sold games every month, but they can't use a bit of this money they have to renew the license of the songs??

I bet they'll use random pop songs from GTA V to replace these songs with expired licenses because this way they also don't have to spend their precious money buying new songs that fit the game

Take-Two doesn't want to pay.

So they have no money to prolong the license but no problem with licensing new music instead?

Knowing R* they may put some 2017 cRap Trap and other modern s**t into it.

I mean - when they replaced 4 Del Mundo tracks, they put 2000s songs (one from 2012). (GTA LCS is 1998 world)

They can't even do that. Those songs are licensed for use in GTA5 *only*. We'll get some generic unlicensed stuff...or maybe stuff that's cheap to license at best.

I'm kinda ok with it. As long as it fits the station and the setting, I see no problem. Other than the fact they'll have to remove more songs in 2028 and they won't be able to kick this ball forever.

I'm also wondering: Will they get a completelly new DJ or will they get Ruslana to record some new lines?

I agree with myself

Great, now touching and f*cking with old games now too huh? :/ I don't know what to say. Gaming as a whole is crap these days. Shame now I can't even play old games the way I want now. I did listen to Vladivostok both before and after Episodes. In fact my most listened to station is TBOGT Vladivostok. What a disappointment...

SprunkieMonkey

american.gxt file says that R* was thinking about licensing these songs but scrapped them, maybe we will see some of them on IV's anniversary

Btw they're not just saying, R* has confirmed it:

If there was ever a remaster of IV It would take the same effect as it did with VC and SA. Lmao If R* actually adds some pop sh*t to IV. Sh*ts going to be ridiculous  Edited by Big_Smiley

Is there a way I can stop this patch on Xbox One? At this point IDGAF if I can't play it in MP anymore if it means I can enjoy the game how it was intended to be played.

You can turn off auto-updates globally...other than that...not much.

Out of curiosity, if I were to download the "patch" (I feel disgusted using this word in this situation) if I ever felt like playing multiplayer, is there a way to remove it afterwards? I think you can remove updates for your games on 360, would that bring back all the music that was taken out?

I guess the only way would be playing it offline, in order to avoid any update. In case you accidentaly download an update, maybe uninstall and re-install the disc offline would solve it.

Either way, i think that might work but i never tried something like that on my xone before, hopefully that would work, i have the same feelings for the radio on it...

I think so,but you'd be stuck on the original Title Update.I don't think you'll get the music back,as it looks like files deleted by Title Updates aren't restored, for example, let's say you bought Minecraft X360 on launch.Well,if you downgraded the game now, you'll see that mobs have completely broken textures and the player has a glitched cape(this is true, and does happen, prob because the game used old files that were deleted by updates). If you downgraded IV,the music would either

1)In best case scenario,the audio wouldn't load.

2)In worst case scenario,It would crash the game.

So basically I can turn off auto updates and only update what I want and just not be able to play MP with IV? Oh well. MP is dying anyway. I'll wait to see what songs get removed and if we don't find out a few days before planned patch I'll just turn it off.

Hmmm nice bike

If this song ends up being one of the ones cut from Vladivostok FM (which is losing most of its tracks), then the beginning of the game with Roman driving up to you for the first time drunk out of his mind will not have the same feel as it did before :/

It also would not surprise me at all if we ended up getting a bunch of songs from the 2010s replacing whatever is cut even though IV is in 2008. As someone mentioned before, LCS had tracks from the 2000s and 2012 added even though it's set in 1998, and they added entire radio stations to GTA V full of songs made after 2013 even though that's when V is set. I don't think Rockstar cares much about timeline continuity anymore.
