Getting the Best Visual Quality Whilst Retaining Performance

Here is an article I recently wrote for my blog; https://chartxgames.com/gta-v-performance-vs-visuals-balancing-act

The article explains how to configure a good balance between graphics hardware and GTA V graphics software in order to have GTA V look amazing on a not so powerful PC while still getting a good framerate.

I spent a lot of time researching this so I hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

Please let me know if this worked for you. I would hate to think I did all the work for nothing. Also please let me know if there is something wrong or if it can be improved in any way and please share your experience if you used the guide.

Comment here or on the article comments section.

Thank you. :)

Kind regards,

Michael, Editor/Owner - chartxgames.com

Doesn't ram speed play a role in performance, particularly with amd cards? I've heard that 2400mhz is good, while any higher is negligible.

I have a Radeon R7 265 2GB card.

I had my settings maxed out, using 2047 MB vs 2048 possible.

I believe several years ago when I got this, I checked out Virtual Super Resolution but for some reason I did not bother with it. Probably because the added overage necessary to run it went "way over budget" in the requirements. I think I just figured I would have to wait until i got a 4GB card.

Also, the new Radeon Crimson drivers had not been released yet.

I came upon your post awhile ago, and decided to try your settings. I decided to try the VSR this time, but I just lowered my other in-game settings enough that I could run it at 2560 X 1440.

I should have done this when I first got the game. Wow.

As can be expected, running it at a higher resolution than I previously had it set (standard 1920 x 1080) has made a world of difference. Lowering other settings has been offset by the increase in detail, and it looks way better than it did.

This is a great stopgap measure until I buy a 4GB card later this year, and a 4k monitor someday.
Previously I had done a lot of research with the original drivers to max out the in-game visual settings as best I could, but VSR really made a difference.

Your recommended settings may have not made a major difference in my setup, but your page you linked to did make me decide to try the VSR again, and this time I got it to work great with my system, and that alone is wort it. This is a great improvement on what I have, a Samsung 24" 1080p.

Thanks so much for posting.

In know, it's weird.

My game actually seems to run better in 1440p than in 1080p. I get the no fullscreen issue and bad aliasing when in 1920x1080.

Anyway,

I'm glad that some of my suggestions have improved this incredible game for you.

Have fun,
Michael.
