Hmmm nice bike
As much as I hate the fact that they're calling the remastered version "Re-Mars-tered" (seriously, they couldn't come up with a better name than that?), an underrated classic from 2009 will be coming back for PS4, Xbox One and PC. From Gamespot THQ Nordic has announced a remaster of the 2009 action game Red Faction Guerrilla, coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The updated version will sport the pun-tastic name Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered when it comes in Q2 of this year. The overhaul is primarily visual, with reworked textures, lighting, shadow rendering, and post-processing. It also adds 4K support for that ultra-high-res dusty Mars charm. The core gameplay hasn't been changed, which means it still has an appetite for destruction. Guerrilla became known primarily as a physics playground, with structures that can be dismantled by sledgehammer, vehicle, or explosive device. This game and Saints Row 2 were probably the two best things Volition ever developed. Though the Red Faction series no longer belongs to Volition following the implosion of THQ, the new "THQ Nordic" will at least be bringing this title back (which is more than Volition wants to do with the original Saints Row games, they claim that the source codes are too f*cked up for those titles to be reworked, but somehow RFG's is fine?). For those unfamiliar with this game, it's basically an open world game set on Mars in the middle of a revolt against a corrupt occupying military (and a sequel to the 2001 first-person shooter Red Faction), and every single manmade structure can be destroyed in a unique way. Buildings and bridges don't collapse in generic ways, they'll all come apart and react based on wherever they're being hit or blown up at. I don't think many other titles have had destruction like this, and honestly, it was immensely fun. It also looked very good for a game from 2009, and while no screenshots of the remastered version have been released yet, I'm sure it's going to look that much better on modern consoles. This is probably one of the last games that I figured would be remastered, but I'm happy that THQ Nordic is working on it anyway because I think it deserves it. Zello
I hope this means they could possibly work on a saints row 1 and 2 remaster unlikely because Volition has said no but maybe THQ Nordic can force them Ivan1997GTA and Lock n' Stock
chronic lumbago
I loved that game. There was a massive lack of vehicles and I don't remember anything at all about the story but the destruction aspects were awesome.
OurJud
Red Faction was so much better as a first-person game. Really pigged off they switched to third. Furry_Monkey
D9fred95
I hope objects will respawn over time. This was a flaw for me with the original. Why encourage destruction if everything you destroy never comes back? Mars becomes even more barren than it already is then.
Hmmm nice bike
Red Faction was so much better as a first-person game. Really pigged off they switched to third. I played Red Faction Guerrilla before I played Red Faction 1 and 2. While I can see how some people who preferred the first-person style would be disappointed by the change, at least they didn't make a completely terrible game, and a first-person camera view as an option would have been nice to have, too. Red Faction Armageddon may as well have been first person though, RFG wasn't bad at all compared to that one. A remaster of the first game would also have been great to see, especially as a companion to the RFG remaster. The first title is obviously extremely dated-looking by now, but it's still fun, and on a much more modern engine with some upgrades here and there it'd probably look and feel even better. I hope objects will respawn over time. This was a flaw for me with the original. Why encourage destruction if everything you destroy never comes back? Mars becomes even more barren than it already is then. I hope so, too. This was probably one of my biggest annoyances with the original game. At least they gave you a lot of stuff to destroy, but you could basically level the entire map if you wanted to. Among other stuff they should have done, an in-game radio would have been nice. Music stations could play originally-composed music that's supposed to be rock and pop in the future (at a bar in the game, there was a radio playing loops of tracks that were supposed to basically be that) as well as whatever royalty free classical music is out there, and then something that plays propaganda news and talk (similar to the news broadcasts on the TVs in the game). Anything to make the long-ass drives between towns less of a drag. Ivan1997GTA
Furry_Monkey
Red Faction was so much better as a first-person game. Really pigged off they switched to third. ^^ This. Red Faction and Red Faction 2 were VERY good shooters, but they lost the plot after that. This is one remaster that I will not be buying. Hmmm nice bike
Looks like this will be arriving on July 3rd. Here's the trailer Stormingz
Stormingz
This game was f*cking awesome, I remember even the multiplayer was great fun. I’ll definitely be picking this up at some point, I haven’t had so much fun with destruction since the old Mercenary games, and they were nothing compared to this. Lock n' Stock
I never played this, though this seems like a good chance to give it a go. Hopefully this also means Saints Row 1 & 2 will be getting the same treatment. Hmmm nice bike

Fun open world experience and probably one of the best games Volition has made besides the first two Saints Rows and the first RF. A remaster of SR1 and 2 would be welcome, but I have no idea if that's even a possibility without rebuilding the entire game. Volition said that the source code for SR1 is a complete mess and SR2's was completely lost. Of course, RFG was made at the same time as the original SR games and somehow that source code was fine? Unless a remaster can be made using a released version of the game already, but then that's probably not how it works. Lock n' Stock
Creed Bratton
I never managed to finish it. I get bored with it easily. It's like poor man's Mercenaries or The Saboteur. It's simply not interesting enough. It's kind of monotonous and repetitive. Volition should remaster The Punisher. OysterBarron

Honestly, at least it's not as bad as Red Faction: Armageddon (a.k.a. the game that killed the franchise because THQ/Volition made seriously bad decisions). I had fun with RFG, but I also think that a proper sequel could have brought out many much-needed improvements, rather than the complete downgrade of a game that RFA turned out to be. It's like they suddenly felt the need to copy Dead Space and turn it into a monotonous "kill all the bugs" linear shooter. I think the game mainly needed a couple of radio stations just to give you something to listen to while you're driving. Doctor Holliday
Remasters are what you do when you don't have any good new ideas. I already played Red Faction Guerrilla. I don't need to play it again with slightly better graphics. Just make a new game. I'll pass...
RyanBurnsRed
It's nice of THQ Nordic to give all of their remasters to existing Steam owners for free. I haven't played this game in years so maybe this will give me a reason to play it again.
