This is a very simple discussion and straight to the point.

We've covered this in other threads, but not so direct or specific as:

Do you approve of pitting in races (I like it dirty) or do you disapprove (I prefer clean)?

Now, before you chime in with, "turn No Contact" on, remember that there are many races that do not allow that feature/option.

And even in races that do allow it, the thrill of the race, in my opinion, is decreased about 1000%.
I simply love racing with other, like-minded racers.

The problem is, that I race with randoms (I know, I know... join a race crew, find some friends, cry to your mom, etc), so my personal options of who I race with are limited and I know what to expect.

But, that's part of the point of this discussion. Whether racing with crew/friends or with randoms, are you willing to pit someone out of position to gain the advantage and potential win, or are you restrained enough to battle it out, slipstreaming (if it's on) in and out of position with another racer?

The reason for the post is because I partook in a race last night and had first placed locked, until I was knocked out at the last moment by a player who not only spun me out, but who spun out himself, leaving a bunch of other cars to finish ahead of us in a 20 lap race. Needless to say, I was annoyed.

So, just curious to get a definitive response of whether this is an acceptable way of racing by most or if it's a minority strategem?

Thanks and cheers! :)

No Use For A Name

I like my races like I like my women - dirty and full of bumping & grinding

And with both, I always try to finish as fast as possible so I can go back to watching reruns of the Office

I used to race competitively in GT5 & 6 in a racing crew and have always raced clean. I won't go out of my way to pit anyone unless they do it to me first. If they do then all bets are off.

I don't pit unless someone tries to pit me, that's my golden rule. Once anyone tries to push me, I'll either step on the brake and try to pit them, or if that fails, I'll do my best to catch and eliminate them in revenge.

I truly hate dirty wannabe racers who can't play clean. Pitting randoms are the first reason why I don't really race in this game anymore. I won 50 races to unlock chrome paint, so I could use it on my Slamvan Custom's bumpers, and afterwards, rarely returned to race related gamemodes, which is pretty sad. I wish there were penalties playing dirty, or artifficially heavy cars you can't push off the track (like in good old Need for Speed games), because GTA racing as it is reminds me of ZOOs with some crazy monkeys yelling and throwing feces at you.

Having skill and playing clean is the way to go, too bad there are outside factors and variables that can easily ruin your fun.

Let's just say that I am clean until page 2 of this story book.

I race clean and love it when others do the same with no catch up on. Makes it more competitive imo. But if you come at me, I will catch up and know that if I try and pass you clean, you'll wreck me. So obvi I'm just going to remove you, BEFORE I pass, since you've made it apparent you don't want to race clean.

I think we all adjust our play style depending on the situation at hand. I usually know how to counteract a pit move on me though, so it backfires on the agitator.

I love my NASCAR and Im addicted to Hotring Sabre racing, but the luckif winning these races is about like the luck if winning the Daytona 500. No matter what strategy I use, Im lucky to win 1/20 races. Im good, so Im generally running up front. Ive tried the strategy of laying back and keep the lead pack within view, but I keep getting taken out even if Im racing clean. I try not to attract attention with dirty racing early for a target on my head, but occasionally taking the lead gets a target on my car anyways. Even if I wait for the last lap to get aggressive, Im always taken out. I try to show Ill race for the win clean, still get taken out. My new host settings are Ketchup On (Usually hate it, but EVERYONE gets pitted and you want a chance to get back in the race) Stock cars only, Standard racing, and Destroy last every 60 seconds (Gets rid of the poor sports who start driving backwards, but reduces purses when they quit) Im nearly at 1000 wins. I use to have 200 more wins than losses, but the Hotribg ruthless racing is killing my still positive win percentage. Even when I try to lay back and slipstream last second for the finish, 3rd or 4th take me out. I love it and I hate it. Im not naturally a dirty racer but Ive been forced to get evil and it still doesnt pay off in those races. I created a great Hitring race with real NASCAR track features mixed with road course technical parts to pull away from randoms, but Rockstar will likely never see it andIll never get verified. NOSCAR Grand Tour on PS4 btw. If anyone is running some clean stock car races, hit me up. Tired of clean or dirty not getting the wins Im use to racking up.

Yellow Dog with Cone

I take pride in racing as clean as possible, even when someone rams me and I catch up to him, I try my best to pass him cleanly to teach him a lesson.

Now, when I see that someone is trying to ram me, I just press my brakes and hope for the best, most of the time, they crash instead.

What I hate pretty much is people who drive backwards and block choke points in the track, I can counter someone trying to pin me but how the fucc do you counter 4 cars blocking the Finish line because they got bored or frustated?

Rubbin' is racin' but that isn't rubbin', that is dickin'.

In a sanctioned race, you must follow whatever "rules" are put forth, or you are deemed not worthy, imo. 😐

In a street race, get the f*ck out of my way. 😁

i disapprove pitting, it's not a good move imo, but if someone is doing a pit manuever to me in a race, then i guess i have to play it their way, as dirty as can be

i dont always race...but when i do, i try to race clean.

last week i was doing them hotring races, when i joined, saw there were 30 players, so as the race started i braced for the carnage that was to ensue once the race started. to my surprise, there was no carnage, and most of the people raced clean with the occasional bump, which is normal in racing, it was beautiful!

when i race, if someone bump me and i lose control i just try to get back to race, but if someone pits me, its on!

*cue metallica's here comes revenge*

ill hunt that mofo down til i get my revenge, sometimes ill pit the mofo out of the track, wait for it to spawn and pit him out again 😈🤣

I'll always try to race clean, even against dirty racers. But, if they take me out and leave me with no chance of a decent finish I'll make it my aim that they DNF.

If they quit to free mode I'll follow them in the hopes we get in the same session too. That's when my Pyro comes out to play and Headhunter gets started.

I always try and race as clean as possible and never intentionally take anyone out. If someone rams or pits me which happens quite often I'll just try and get on with it. That is the one good thing about catchup so often being on I suppose in that it still gives you a chance if you get screwed over when it wasn't your fault. I have on quite a number of occasions however spun someone out completely by accident either just because I hit them accidentally while trying to overtake or end up going into the back of them when using slip stream. I also remember that when the transform races first came out on one or two occasions I quite by accident blew a couple of players up in the flying sections. I would never do so intentionally though.

I wouldn't spin anyone out or touch them period even if it cost me first place.

Unless of course they try that sh*t on me, then it's game f*cking on. I don't even care about what position I finish in after that (most of the time anyways) as long as I pit them back in the most aggressive way possible.

I don't race that much but when I do I'm not opposed to a little rough and dirty play, I think it fits in the general GTA aesthetic. There's a difference between some bumping and piting and all-out douchery like blocking with no attempt to race or driving backwards, and unfortunately one tends to degenerate into the next within public race lobbies.

I race clean, and I hate pitting. Its the desperate 100 to 200 rankers who are the worst for this.

I was in this race with this girl the other day, and we accidentally touched side by side in a tube (cant remember what race it was) She saw that as deliberate and rammed me really aggressively causing me to spin out. I caught her up in her X-80 and just gave her back end the slightest gentle nudge close to the finish and spun her out to take the win.

She was not impressed. Good looking girl though, if that is her in her Xbox profile pic

I race clean, I used to retaliate, not by using a PIT maneuver tho, I'd slam them into crash barriers and keep them pinned there until everyone else had finished the race (unless they respawned, funnily not many are clever enough to do that). Now I just quit out at the first sign of any deliberate contact, not because I'm angry, I just cba wasting my time with that type of player at all.

I go above and beyond at avoiding ramming or blocking players, even at the cost of a victory.

If I'm trading paint with a competitor who doesn't mean to ram, but is unaware or doesn't care for non-hostile positioning, I'll stop paying extra attention and if he flies he files.

If I get rammed or I notice someone ramming another player, I'll hunt them down whenever I get the chance, sometimes even at the cost of a victory. Punish the fool, always feels good.

I do not approve of ramming once in a while to get a win, but I let it slide.

I dislike people who ram frequently, block and get in the way of others when recovering from a crash and think poorly of them.

I hate people who drive backwards or ram for the sake of griefing without even gaining an advantage by doing so. Shameless buffoons.

Non-contact is best contact.

It is much more fun for me to battle for the lead with someone skilled who keeps it clean. When you turn me on purpose, it tells me you don’t have much skill and even less confidence.

Sometimes, karma has its own way of working. Like for this guy after a heist..

But sometimes, I can be a dick too..

That was in good fun with friends but nonetheless.. it was a dick move. He kept saying he's going to pass me so we swapped paint, I saw my chance and took it.

I don't look to pit and I play fairly until someone tries ramming me off the road. All bets are off against them after that. I love seeing them give a thumbs down after the race when I make a comeback.

I finally reached 1000 wins more than losses the other day.

Most was done in stunt racing.

I prefer clean racing but will play dirty for the win late in a race.

Some mic'd players let me know when they're upset with me.

Send them this to ease their pain. LOL

I do it if it actually helps me - if it has a high chance of improving my position in the race with a very low probability of costing me anything. e.g. I'm in second place, with an easy pit maneuver on 1st and no one else near us. The only time pitting and bumping really pisses me off is when people are doing it basically for no reason. If you're in the middle of a tight pack and initiate contact, odds are equally as good that it will screw you over as the guy you're hitting; as soon as you both start moving around you're probably both getting creamed by multiple cars behind you. There's no strategy there and I wish people like that would just go back to free roam and troll people there instead.

For the first 1/2 to 3/4 of most races, I go as clean as possible. It's not even an ethical thing, it's just strategy. Collisions always offer a non-negligible risk of spinning you out and I'd rather leave that to everyone else until I reach a point where I am betting with house money.

I also don't like non-contact races. I understand why people run them as the only reasonable alternative to the chaos that is most GTA racing; but to me if you're doing that, you might as well race by yourself and just time it. If you're not having to work out how to safely pass people and take proper lines, a lot of the fun of racing is gone IMO.

I race clean until someone ever so much as nugs me a little.

After that...Let's say I usually bring the heaviest cars to races for a reason.
