[GTAO] The Modern GTAO Play Style

Recommended Posts

After dinner I clean up the kitchen and see that my kids are all in their rooms, leaving our XBox unattended.

It's rare, in our house, so I jump on as quick as I can, logging into GTAO.

My character appears on the street, arms swinging, his vehicle typically nearby.
Vehicle of choice these days: Oppressor, because I love to get on and just fly.

Depending on the size of the lobby and who is where, I just kind of tool around.
Chase people, blow some up, get blown up, PvP, buy ammo, and other Free Roam routines.

But, after the initial entry into the session, I start to think about what I want to do.
There's many options, and that's what this thread is about – the thought process of our modern play styles.

I'll be honest, I forget about the bulk of the activities, because there's just too much to do and some draw me in more than others.
Things like Arm Wrestling, Darts, and Golf are a lot of fun, but I very rarely check in to them these days.

Heists are fantastic, but a big commitment and require working with trusted friends or relying on nasty randoms.
I usually get stuck with randoms because most people I know stopped playing GTAO a while ago.

Contact Missions are still fun, but I've played the life out of most of them, and CEO and MC jobs seem redundant, now.

My old favorite, Survivals, are an option I often forget about, too. I used to love them.
But, now, I've played them all and the whole shooting gallery aspect is somewhat stale.
Doing them with randoms often has that one guy who runs around like Rambo, until he gets killed and quits.
Not to mention the camper who hides and offers no help beyond one kill to remain in the game.

Racing is my current go-to, because there's such a variety between Stunts, Hotring, classic tracks, and more.
But, like all other activities, randoms tend to ruin the experience and racing alone is a snooze.
I love No Contact races, but it eliminates the adrenaline rush you get from contact races.

So, in the end, I spend a few minutes contemplating the range of things to do in GTAO in 2018, as it's so different from any other year, prior.

My priority of interests are typically:

  1. Free Roam & Free Roam events*
  2. Racing
  3. Contact Missions
  4. Survivals
  5. CEO / MC work
  6. Heists
  7. Arm Wrestling, Darts, and Golf
  8. Other

* this includes buying/selling cars, shopping for clothes, tattoo parlors, hair salon, etc.

TL;DR –
In 2018, there are so many things to do in GTAO, how do you prioritize your game play style and interests, based on the list above?

And for number 8. "other" please, feel free to elaborate.

Have a great weekend and hope to see you in Los Santos! Cheers! :)

"Oh, look Greaves, another one of those 'GTA' players who comes by once a year to play golf. How adorable."

I'll quote Dr. Hans Volter for describing priorities of majority of players.

1. I will crush you like a little mucker. Let's call it my entertainment break.
2. You people disgust me, your incessant coddling of money. I will exterminate you.
3. Stop living, scum! Who said you can go on living?

My personal priorities:

1. Wait for loadings.
2. Equipping glitching disappearing helmet again and again.
3. Help people with grinding?
4. Purposelessly roam around.

Wow, fw3. Want to know how your thread works so well? I had completely forgotten about golf and only remembered how much I loved to play that after you mentioned it! As soon as I log in today, I surely will spend my sweet time playing some golf. Hell, I'll even give my character some appropriate clothes for that! Hehe.

In short: you are completely on the money about how the scope of things to do in Online is so large that we forget about some.

Anyway, now for your question:

1. If there is anything to unlock, be it an award, reward, souvenir like the cargo trophy or liveries, the activity related to that is the first thing I do.

2. If there's a friend online grinding freemode businesses, I go and help them.

3. When no one is online, I'll do a mix of survivals, contact missions and VIP work. Since I own everything worth owning, I can always come up with new ways to do these jobs and it never gets boring. I can do them only with biker weapons and role-play as that or play as a terminator and use the most overpowered stuff.

4. Do whatever is receiving bonuses for this week, especially if it's PvP oriented. I do like the combat in this game, even though there's some stuff like movement while sniping that I would like to remove.

5. Join random heists just to see how badly people can fail at them and if they have any chance to be helped. If I find a random that is communicative and is just unlucky enough to not have any friends and have to rely on randoms to complete the heist at hand, I'll do my best to help them out of it. I was there before and I remember the struggle, so I can relate. However, when I do this it's because I'm really bored and already know I may end up wasting my time.

6. I used to do this before mod menus that can rank you up and send you to badsport showed up: go to crowded public sessions and do freemode businesses and VIP jobs to bait randoms to attack me. I can never bring myself to attack people unprovoked ever since I unlocked all the awards related to that, so I'll do those businesses and jobs to bait willing people to PvP with me instead. If I end up winning or massacred, it's the same thing. I just want to play with people and test my abilities in "no rules" street combat.

7. Thanks to this topic, darts, golf, tennis and arm wrestling!

Thank you, Volganor! Grateful for that reply.

But, another thing I completely forgot to list is what you said in your no. 1: Daily Objective, Rewards/Awards, etc.

There are so many other things to do that are more individual to each player, not to mention just setting a financial goal for each session ("I'm going to earn $500,000 tonight!") or reaching a new level ("I am SO close to being a level 400... just one more 2x event!").

I have to check my Daily Objectives tonight. I always forget about those! Cheers! :)

I have been told by friends that they find the way I play GTA Online "weird." I don't make it a point to go out and fight the world or even get down to the grind. When I play the game, I'm typically living the life of a 2013 off-the-plane street-level criminal. I hop in my Albany Emperor, go for a cruise and listen to

, check out my daily objectives and do 'em if they're easy, then sell a
and see if Gerald's got any work for me. The only time I really ever dabble in heists or more "gamey" missions (like Survivals, Deathmatches, et cetera) is when friends are playing. Not only do they provide a more fun experience with PvP, they're more reliably competent when it comes to team-based gameplay, and I'll never be the one who wants to do a Deathmatch. I did used to do land races on my own a lot more, but once I lapped just about all of them upwards of ten times, I usually only do them with friends. Or play my own races.

So, when it comes to playing the game, my priorities are such, in this order:

1.Freeroam

2.Casual Activities (Golf!)

3.Racing

4.Contact Missions

5.Heists

6.CEO Jobs

7.Car Show!

It's all got a bit samey for me, both my characters are over level 250 now and I have about 32 million ready for that golden DLC should it ever drop so more often than not I will fire up some VIP work to protect me against BS points/insurance and go.....

1 - Deluxo hunting in my Akula

2 - Oppressor hunting in my Akula

3 - Bounty hunting in my Akula

4 - Pink to Red dot hunting in my Akula

otherwise I also still enjoy a bit of

5 - Racing

6 - Associate/biker work for other VIPs

I fly. I blow sh*t up. Do a few missions/heists to cover expenses, and not much else these days.

Only when there's new content I join with friends and help each other unlock the new stuff.

Golden DLC drop date: October 2024. <sigh>

Of course, if you can't wait, there's always the $10 million Luxor waiting for you. It's fun to land on things with. <sigh>

I only play in solo public lobbies so I kind of plan out in advance in my head what I'll be doing in that session, if nothing sounds interesting then I simply won't log on lol. 95% of the time it's usually some sort of free roam business work (crates or cars ideally) or just Sightseer to cruise around in the latest rides and just relax. I haven't played in a populated public lobby in MONTHS and probably won't ever again. GTAO is way past stale at this point so the only things that'll get me to log in for an hour or two max daily are crates and cars, helps me enjoy the beautiful scenery of Los Santos and Blaine County while having objectives to achieve at the same time. It's impossible for me drive around aimlessly doing nothing lol.

In normal days I jump into a lobby, watch a map, in prior:

If Jets there or other aggressive aircraft I'm not thinking too long and engage straight to action.

If there a lot of people and there anywhere shooting red dots I engage straight to action.

If it's business lobby I push quick random job, play it, repeat from first to last.

That's it.

Cool post, fw3.

I told myself when I bought my yacht that I was "GTA retired" lmfao.

Basically this means I don't focus on grinding unless it's a double $ week on something I really enjoy. Then sure, I make money and go ham on it. My priority is amusing myself and taking easy scores that interest me while my bunker fills up. I'll detail it properly.

Here is my list of priorities:

1) Driving Stromberg on the beach like a maniac midday for maximum vehicular manslaughter. Escaping cops in water.

2) Slowly getting back into GTA photography

3) Base jumping off things I haven't base jumped off before.

4) Shooting NPC's with flare guns. Watching them burn.

5) Collecting moving bounties w/ Deluxo missiles

6) Certain Freemode Activities: Beast (if I'm the Beast), Air/Land Checkpoints --,

7) Headhunter

Basically I'm a rich psychopath.

This is me. I play GTA many times the way I would play the original San Andreas. Cruise. Listen to tunes on Spotify. Fight the cops or whatever.

These days I tend to quick heist since my friends are all playing Destiny 2. In freeroam I normally hop in my Akula and wait for some random to start a sale, then use their red blip to kill the worst kind of players... the ones who follow R*s commands.

If I see friendly invites to heists I join those too.

That's about it.

First thing I do when I spawn into gta online:

Refill my ammo, body armour and snacks.

Call mos insurance to see if anything has been destroyed.

Resupply bunker or sell.

Do Simeon vehicle list and daily objectives.

Wait for Invite to something from crew or friends.

If nothing does down then I’ll jump off gta.

Restocks snacks and armor.

Golf, alone or with my golfing pals.

Verbal Soze

I would say my priorities is number 8

Other stuff : just roam around the session with all the cars that i have bought, kinda like pre retirement state, because let's be honest i have played and complete everything GTA and GTAO have to offer, there's nothing left to do tbh, grinding is getting boring, contact missions full of weaponized sh*t, trolls in races, deathmatch is just a tedious killfest, survivals full of AFK hmm...

so yeah i'm just customizing cars and driving them around in FR sessions

I used to grind out contact missions and Survivals with friends and randoms for the first couple years. Then, the friends list dried up, and people would kill me or fail the missions so I stopped that.

My play style for the past 3 or so years has been reduced to an endless cycle of VIP work and Survivals. Not sure how I've been okay with that for so long, but it's enough.

I really like your list a LOT. Things on here I didn't even think of, that I'm most definitely going to be exploring!

ie: Base Jumping (awesome), Snapmatic hunting, and Stromberging (new favorite verb). I sold mine off, but maybe it's time to revisit.

Thanks for the great new (old?) ideas! lol! Cheers! :)

Spawn in Office---->Schafter V12(turn off ingame radio/turn on Vivaldi )---->go to marina grab a Savage---->Headhunter. Its relaxing. That moment you think: "Why RL isn't smooth like that?" :(
