DexMacLeod
This is easily my most anticipated game right now. I would have been just fine with a slightly better version of the first game but they seem to have really put a lot of time into it. It's great to see the Dev team finally able to talk about the game too. trip, Ivan1997GTA and jpm1

Fireman
As long as it's sitll modular, I won't be playing it. State of Decay was ruined with the modular system in my opinion. Project Zomboid is sitll the only good zombie game. Edited April 12, 2018 by Fireman
jpm1
i don't know what you mean by modular. but for me SoD is the game that comes close the most to Romero's movies. thus a great Z survival
Fireman
As in your homebase is just a bunch of lots where you can only place pre-made sections. Your base will always look the same, there was very little variety. I want to build a base in a zombie games, one that can get attacked (also never happened in SoD). The only risk SoD had was that your characters could die.

Not when there's so many pre-existing buildings around. There definitely seems to be a wider variety of places you can use as a base this go around too. They often show this one that's essentially a bunch of well placed shipping containers that looks pretty cool. Your base can get attacked in the original if you don't have proper defenses set up. Without nearby outposts hordes can get in and mess you up a bit. In 2 it looks like there's full on sieges though. If you've got too many projects going or morale gets low and people start arguing a lot your noise levels get too high and attract attention. jpm1
Franceska
I can't wait to get my hands on this game. Been playing the first one and ever since I saw the second was coming on E3, I was too hyped. I love that it's co-op as well, great step up from the original I'd say. trip and jpm1

Even with proper defenses it could still get attacked, or at least that used to be the case way back when I used to play. I always preferred Savini's House over the Trucking Warehouse for that reason, since you could park cars (especially on the bridge) to block/slow horde movement down. Did have an annoying Zed spawn behind the joint though. Of course things could have changed since I played though. Looks like base building is going to be improved but haven't seen too much on that front as to what it will actually constitute. Biggest want for me is being able to send NPC survivors out on supply runs without having to baby sit them, still. Always was one of my biggest pet peeves. jpm1
well like always with the first game of a studio, you can't get it all with first game. like we say in France, you can't get the butter, the butter money, and the dairy woman ***. my fav base in 1 was the farm. very easy to defend. where you could see enemies from far away. but i must agree that the height of some walls were pretty much ridiculous. for example i use to settle down at the mexican restaurant base from time to time, and IRL the big buildings around would have made first class homes for sure. with lot of rooms. possibility of creating huge bases with very few effort, just few walls here and there. and high roofs. good for emergency escape, or helo ops too. i don't know what SoD 2 has in shop, but i just can't wait to put my hands on it. i just hope there will be mods to remove these stupids fast Z small edit: review with video here. the review says more or less that the game is pretty good, but that it is also pretty much buggued http://www.jeuxactu.com/state-of-decay-2-on-y-a-joue-faut-il-s-inquieter-de-l-exclu-microsoft-113696.htm Edited May 1, 2018 by jpm1

I pretty much just set up outposts on all the nearby roads and those will destroy any hordes before they even get close. A few stragglers might wander in from time to time but nothing a person on the watchtower can't take care of. small edit: review with video here. the review says more or less that the game is pretty good, but that it is also pretty much buggued http://www.jeuxactu.com/state-of-decay-2-on-y-a-joue-faut-il-s-inquieter-de-l-exclu-microsoft-113696.htm Yeah, from what I've seen/read it seems to have some of the original's jankyness and frame rate dips. What really worries me though is that even though there's a whole lot of gameplay footage out there on youtube now I haven't seen anything of how the game looks on the standard Xbox. Everything so far's been Xox One X and high end PC's.

I took today off from work and spend the $49 just so I could play early. I paid the full price myself, including all the DLC etc. I loved the first game and spent countless hours in State of Decay. Yeah, the reviews might not be great, but as long as it’s an overall improvement of the first game, I’m going to be a happy customer. trip and jpm1
DexMacLeod
I got the Ultimate Edition as well and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's pretty much just a bigger better version of the last game, which I'm fine with, but the lack of innovation is a little underwhelming. I was hoping at the very least I'd be able to make my base a little more secure. As is I get zombies just stumbling in all the damn time. Luckily the other survivors are pretty capable at defending but when you're in a menu screen and all you hear is zombies moaning and people screaming you've kinda gotta back out and get involved. Another annoying thing is that the Ultimate Edition bonuses aren't free. The car requires 400 influence points and a 30 minute (real time) wait to get dropped off. jpm1, trip and Stormingz
trip
Nothing worse than having a car break down in the middle of nowhere and no car repair kit near by. They were right with the sparse cars...with fuel level anxiety tied in. I would have no problem if more developers took to this formula of just offing a new game so darn simular to the previous installment because the previous installment "worked". No need to reinvent the wheel...just incorporate some of the changes that makes the newer wheel better and stronger. It does seem to be a tad more forgiving with death. I've only had one death. It seems like you get more chances of "mash A" to not die. Stormingz
I’ve made it to to day three in-game, and so far I’m enjoying this game, I’m still in my first base in the Valley, but I think it’s safe to say this game is a major improvement over the first, I’m sure they’ll iron out a few bugs with a day one patch. Of course, there are a few things they could’ve done better, like adding barbed wire round your whole base perimeter, but I saw videos of peoples bases that had just that, with watchtowers etc. So I’m guessing it’ll come later. The fuel mechanic adds a whole new ‘fear’ level when you’re driving, always have to worry about fuel, and I like that. The new plague zombies are a good idea, but I feel like the lack something? I like that you can get infected if you’re not careful, but it’s quite easy to cure the infection. All in all, great improvement over the first, they had a solid foundation with the first game and just pretty much built on it here. Worth every penny imo, great value for money. DexMacLeod
Yeah, I really love the way cars work in this one. They're a bit harder to find but a lot harder to lose for good. On a live stream the developers even said that if you manage to turn your car upside down there's often a chance you can flip it back over and repair it. The fuel thing takes what could kind of become repetitive and tedious in the last game and adds a real tension and need for strategy that's pretty refreshing. The game was a bit overwhelming at first for me. Coming in I felt like a seasoned pro since I've pretty much been playing this game for years but even with only five people I'm still struggling to keep food and medical supplies stocked. Plus I'm constantly being asked for help from neighboring communities. I've sort of learned I can't help everyone and have just been focusing on the ones who have things I want/need. Mainly the mechanics and I recently just found a community trying to put together a clinic. Gonna keep them happy if I can. I think I'm gonna move to a bigger base (probly the Brewery) and really dig into that system, maybe get a garden going and see how much that helps with food. Anyone know how repairing weapons works in this one? Is it like before where you just leave it in the supply locker for awhile and it gets fixed? I've tried going to my workshop but can't find anything there. Weapons are breaking down fast too. Even the Ultimate Edition ones with their durability maxed out sometimes don't last a day. trip

Ferals aren't quite as bad this time around. Especially if you bring another member of your community with you. They're pretty good at spotting the specials before you have to engage so they're easy enough to avoid. jpm1
Daz
I have one big question. Can you still dropkick + execute like in the first game? That mechanic alone was why I decided to buy the first game. Even though I enjoyed the first game a lot and got all the non DLC achievements. I honestly didn't really care that this was coming out. I was always disappointed it never had co-op in the first game despite already having taunts and gestures clearly indicating it should have had mutliplayer. Until I saw this had co-op, I may actually get this. Also the gun play looks really tight. I don't know if it's worth the price just yet, but I may get this at some point. Yeah, drop kicks and executions have returned, you just need to specialise your character in fighting. Co-op is included in the game now, but I’m yet to try it personally. Like I said in my previous post, if you enjoyed the first game, you’ll definitely enjoy this.
trip
This game has consumed me. There is something "chill" about it. I can play for hours on end and not want to stop. Honest, I'm old and don't have the gaming stamina of my youth. 2 hours is about the most time I can play any game before needing a seious break. I decide to give up all my initial hours (16 hours) and start a whole new compound. My original compound was at 6 days of survival and mood was "cheerful". It's still there since they let you manag different compounds but it felt like a drastic decision - to start again. I like my new compound and it's people...no-one better die. e: Also forgot to mention that this is a play anywhere title. I love play anywhere. Stormingz
I like the ambient music they have playing at certain points in the game, really fits the mood. I had nerve wrecking, non-scripted moment earlier, one of my members had a side mission (the first neighbour who helps you destroy your first plague heart) where his aunt, who was some crazy survivalist, had left clues of her whereabouts and stashes of unique guns and ammo, found some awesome custom assault rifle. Anyway, as I had finished the quest and found said gun, it was the middle of night (which is 100x darker than the original game, and you actually can’t see anything) and I was filling up my Vagabound (Land Crusier type vehicle) in the middle of nowhere, next thing I know I met my first feral and got jumped mid-fuelling. The f*cker nearly killed one of my favourite survivors and I was panicking like f*ck. Thank f*ck I managed to fight it off, with a hair of health. That’s what made this game great imo, practically none of this game is scripted, you never know what’s lurking around the corner, I’ve had a few great moments like these, but this one sticks out the most to me. jpm1
