Things the GTA V map can learn from Fortnite

If people are saying they are bored with the map, it's because they grind the same missions over and over again. And so visit the same places.

If you stop grinding for a moment and look at the details of the world, it is amazing. Little details like the trash, scrups, some NPC's.

I agree that some things are underdeveloped. For example, the ocean, the fast food chains, hotdog stands and interiors of buildings.

Rockstar has focused too much on shark cards. Money talks. As long as the money rolls in with the boat load, there's no incentive to make meaningful additions to the world.

Zeldick beats himself on the chest that gta is still selling like crazy. All players I did heists with have left. Most of them for Fortnite.

The only thing gta needs to learn from fortnite is how not to copy another games concept with cartoonish graphics and fail epicly.

Things they should learn from Fornite?

Easy-peezy... nothing.

Absolutely nothing. Fortnite's world feels cartoonish as hell and a lot of things seems out of place. Southern San Andreas feels a lot more real and immersive.

I am not trying to sound rude, but is this a troll post? Comparing the two maps for an open-world crime game that has structured missions, activities, races and the like against a game that has a niche mode... there truly is no reason to say one map is superior to the other.

Fortnite is a different beast of a game with the Battle Royale mode being niche and focused on the simple aspect of 100 man free for all. Negating the entire premise the game was built on, the map still shares the same base idea behind each section found in the all-but-forgotten Save the World mode, but with a motif that rips of what PUBG went with while designing its base map. The destruction of the environment is tied into the building mechanics that were what the entire base building of the co-op premise was structured around, so of course this carries over into the Battle Royale portion, and it is what keeps it from being a carbon-copy ripoff of PUBG.

GTA V/Online was built with a single-player story and exploration in mind and Online secondary. Now that Online is the dominant mode, Rockstar has without question done the best job utilizing all areas of the map for multiple purposes. To repurpose some areas (Humane Labs for example, being used for a heist in the story, the online heists and slasher modes) so effectively is something that can be overlooked and viewed as lazy design. But unless a map expansion is brought to us (I.E adding GTA IV's Liberty City), this is smart design with no need to spend money on new assets to keep the game full of new content and modes that do not require any type of additional locations.

Online free-roam is vastly different than the Battle Royale mode in Fortnite as well... while you have players in GTA:O who are all about shooting each other up. The urban and northern areas are populated differently (in my experience) from session to session, and with the addition of properties scattered throughout the map (and being forced to participate in business aspects only in public sessions), players are more spread out than ever. On the flip side the game has a lot of folks who enjoy to partake in the many various activities the game offers.

Fortnite BR has none of this and instead has its hot spots where the majority of gung-ho players will gravitate too. The feeling of isolation is necessary as it builds tension and is actually a smart design choice since BR was first introduced as a mod in ARMA: While it creates tension of not knowing when another player will be encountered, it also allows for those who stream the game to interact with their audience before the action breaks out, and in turn, allows for discussion of previous rounds to come up during the next break in the action.

Essentially to try and say Rockstar could learn something from Epic is silly... even when it comes to map design.

And if you really want to enjoy driving a vehicle through a tree or pole and having cartoonish physics occur, go play Watch Dogs.

There's absolutely nothing R* has to learn from Fortnite.

The map in V is fine, but old. I'm pretty sure Fortnites map is a lot smaller too, it just feels more isolated because it lacks content. Most areas are what, four or five houses?

Nothing the game concepts are utterly different of course it won't stop Rcokstar trying to copy in their own BR style AM... I guess maybe GTAO doesn't have the server back end to deal with a decent BR style game so do not even bother trying to implement one, perhaps that's something it can learn?

It's called "motor wars" 🙂

Also, on topic, has anyone pointed out that gta 5's map is well over 5 old? It's like "you know what game could really learn a thing or two from gta v's map? All the games released 5 years before it."

CrysisAverted

Things they could learn is letting the f*cking players enter the f*cking fully modeled and textured interiors without cocksucking loading times

Fortnite is a game driven by the map whereas GTA is a (10-year-old if you count dev) game driven by story set in a nice and very detailed map with an online mode.

Fornite was first revealed in 2011, if you cound dev time its probably 10 years old too

Not the actual games themselves, Rockstar can learn a thing or two from Epic, one of them is communication, now I know the whole 'it has been working for them and they don't have to change it" argument, but it doesn't sound right to me, I don't want them to announce things ahead of time and all that, I think there should be some sort of communication between the community and the devs instead of getting automatic replies every time we put a support ticket.

(while we are at it, Rockstar can learn a thing or two about communication from DICE as well)

I've had 2 of my last remaining psn/gta buddies quit the game for Fortnite in the last couple of weeks... so it seems you might be right.
