I feel like Freemode Events was the first huge letdown, although R* rehabilitated themselves with Lowriders update. I'd say 2015-2016 was surely the best era for GTA Online. It was already expanded, and we've got more activities, but at the same time the freeroam nonsense didn't reach the current level, pointlessly militarized vehicles weren't pushed like they are now, and there was no massive cheater problem basically ruining the game and alienating people, encouraging them to play in solo public sessions exclusively.

That definitely was my favourite period of time to play.

Having flying bikes and cars sure does take realism out of it, but then so did calling in a tank and having a minigun in your ass.

People thinking we had realism in 2013 are kidding themselves, it's just even more far fetched now.

However, now we have a shedload more to do, it's much easier to make money and we're able to store way more than 10, 20 or even 30 vehicles.

2018 all day!

See, back in 2013 playing the game was "fun." 

It didn't take long for everyone to realize that to enjoy the game, we had to grind for every dollar.

So, now, in 2018 playing the game is "work."

And any chump around here who has kids, a car, and a mortgage payment will tell you – anything "fun" that becomes "work" is nothing more than a "job."

That's the simple difference, in my opinion, between 2013 and 2018.
