GTAO 2013 VS 2018

92 members have voted

  1. 1. Do you prefer GTAO how it was in 2013 or how it is now?

Recommended Posts

Before: You turned around the corner in your motorcycle and got blown up by a rhino tank then you tried to figure out a way to take it out, rpg's, granade launchers, sticky bombs etc.

Now: You turn around the corner in your oppressor and see a khanjali and start flying away then come back and start shooting missiles at it until you blow it up

So...Would you prefer gta how it was in 2013-2015 or 2016-now?

Remember when players said R* wanted realism so we wouldn't all just be flying and zooming around in unconventional vehicles?

yeah..

2013 please. So I can daydream about the stuff they didn't add and be disappointed all over again.

It's a difficult choice:

2013: A lot of cash and nothing to spend it on

2018: A lot of cash and nothing you want to spend it on

But I feel like if I went back to 2013 I could correct mistakes as updates came out, for example: not buying a mega yacht or the Deluxe aircraft...

2013: Getting lifted by a cargobob then thrown into the water. *Happened to my best friend back when the game came out for ps4. He deleted the game so quick and didn't touch it for a few months*

Simpler times.😖

Before- You were a billionaire by shooting a bounty then one day all your money is gone so you grind grind and can have fun with people without getting shot.

Now- Multi billionaire having power over everyone online undefeated have meme vehicle and a shooting someone with an orbital cannon

As a companion to this thread, I'll add in my own thread, [GTAO] Before & After OR Then & Now Thread, as a contribution, as it is pic heavy.

But for me, 2014 was the year it all happened. It was innocent, clean (even when it was dirty), and very fresh.

Even at its worst, 2014 was friendly and there were no flying squirrels shooting rockets, dancing street fools, or rolling concubines.

Money was easy because you could gift it away or get a $999,999,999 bounty slapped on your head – and survive it! lol!

2013 was fantastic, but it came with a learning curve; 2015 was good, but the addicts, modders, and tryhards were taking over.
Everything after that was just... moms with guns.

to be honest the old days were better in many ways, yes somethings have gone better but other stuff have simply regressed!

for example, no flying cars/bikes, no explosive ammo, no special blips for every vehicle, you could actually go and surprise people in a tank because there was no special blip!

you actually had to learn to read the map and depending on the movement and how fast/slow that player is moving, you could have an idea if that player was on foot, on a car or on a tank.

I still take out tanks using Lesters' Declasse Asea and OTR, just gotta soften it up first or get a friend to put stickies on the inside of the door too.

Never gets old. But! I do admit the scenery has changed ALOT! The map feels half the size with WW3 going on.

2018.

Better cars, better customizable planes & helicopters, better guns, better & more diversified money making opportunities, more garage spaces ... A lot more & the playing field is more leveled* now, the session is no longer under the mercy of a Tank or Jet.

___

* I use the term very very loosely.

There are things I would change, and if you'd told me in 2013 what GTAO 2018 would be like I wouldn't believe you, but I still love it as is.

2013.

GTAO as it is now is a hellhole where you're encouraged to be an ass and are punished for simply trying to make money to purchase vehicles that are way too overpriced. Yes this new sports car looks nice, no it shouldn't cost $900,000 "just cuz".

Is this The Guy?

2013: running around with pistols and smgs getting into gunfights and running out of ammo then escaping in my non-weaponized and unarmored car

2018: orbital canon

I actually prefer how it is now. While we have some peasants and terrible things added that nobody enjoys, you can't deny that we've also had some terrific content recently. Mostly of some new vehicles. Hustler, Ellie, Viseris, just to name a few. GTA Online when it first came out was okay, but it obviously was lacking in many things. We may have got more than we wished for, but I enjoy how it is today.

2013 although simpler was way more fun. Doing survivals and missions and self duping cars, it was the sweetest thing, No blips, flying your buzzard on top of roads for stealth, finding tanks around the corner when you thought it was a dude with a pistol.. scary sh*t man. Those were the days.

2013- No Ellie, Viseris, Hustler, Hermes, etc.

2018- With Ellie, Viseris, Hustler, Hermes, etc.

I'll take 2018 everyday of the week.

2013 - Tank and Jet were the only griefing vehicles to fear. Bounties were fun to hunt/defend. Heavy Sniper was a 1 shot kill even on Maze Bank Tower.

Present - LS is a Warzone

To be honest, it's really just the very early days I miss - Buzzards without homing launchers? That was awesome.

But the homing launcher came in years ago, so it's just a small period I'm looking back at. Homing launcher, moving while sniping, blips - all this stuff has been around a long time, so a vote for old isn't necessarily a vote against all that.

That said, with the changed hitboxes of the old helicopters - well, there's that. And flares on some of the new ones.

Old GTA Online did miss the explosive rounds and orbital strike though, and all the meme vehicles.

However, old GTA did not have the Hunter; therefore it was unbearable. New GTA has the Hunter.

Hmm... 2013-2015 saw a lot of improvements (not least the 2014 re-release), and likewise a whole lot of stuff went downhill even further in 2017 compared to some of the more eyebrow-raising changes/additions in 2016. It's a bit of a sweeping generalisation either way.

So, given the choice, and the benefit of hindsight, I'd sacrifice the small victories like the Elegy Retro Custom and just have GTAO circa mid-2015 (basically before Freemode Events came and screwed up Freemode, Lowriders screwed up certain character options, and then E&OC began the transmogrification of the game into 'SecuroServ Online'... :sui:).

But 2013 or 2018? Considering the bugs, the state of Freemode with weaponised stuff out of every hole, gimmicks coming at the expense of setting, and the ever-declining level of polish? 2013 any day of the week, back before GTAO (and by extension, GTA and R* games in general) went off the rails. :/

Verbal Soze

There are some good stuff added in the game hunter akula hydra kuruma insurgent which makes it easier to do jobs but on the other hands these vehicles have been used in griefing and trolls in contact missions and heists even in free roam business

Back in the day when i still grind the rooftop rumble there are no vigilante or deluxo or kuruma making it more challenging to engage in PvE, but now meh it seems that they are encouraging people to hate and kill each other where the strong survives instead of building up an empire where we can live peacefully without those PvP whiners who said oh this game ain't competitive enough, you want a competition? Go out there and play basketball ffs

TL:DR there are some upside downs between the years cool stuff added while the game keeps turning into PvP warzone bullsh*t

2013, getting $25,000 every 30 seconds from rooftop rumble, back before the time based mission payouts, when we could glitch north yankton in, back in the billionaire era where people could change the amounts bounties were, back when most expensive car was only $1,000,000, back when there wasn't 19 million gamemodes and it didn't take 15+ minutes to find players, back before left right marksman rifle, homing rocket, explosive rifle, ewo spam, ghost organization, the vehicles with op ruiner 2k missiles, back when we could rob armored trucks, before the overpowered enemies we have now, back before pc and people getting banned for no reason, back before content being dripfeed, back when the tank was the only problem in freemode, back when the cargobob could lift anything, back when cars were put in the correct classes, back when a single car didnt dominate every class, when The Benz still was there, back when it was gta not grand theft battlefield.

2013: It was hard to make money and we didn't have the stuff we have now.

2018: Easy ways of earning money and stuff we have now.

2013: An online game trying its best to mimic the beloved single player experience of GTA, founding its gameplay on glorified side missions with no story or purpose, and cautiously experimenting with ballance between accesibility and consumerism (which R* didn't believe could succeed on a big scale). Rational in-game earnings allowing anyone who's willing to play to afford desired items. Plenty of problems related to glitches and bugs, lack of more ambitious content (like heists introduced in 2015). Plenty of potential and great ideas for the future.

2018: Gameplay wise the lowest common denominator based upon pointless PvP not requiring any AI coding, in modder infested public lobbies, due to R*'s incompetent game design and refusal to fix their own mistakes. Aggressive consumerism and rising inflation resulting in higher and higher prices, introductions game-breaking items (OP explosive rounds, or race class breaking vehicles, orbital cannons or Oppressors), as well as experiments with financial chain schemes (buy X necessary to do Y after doing Z). Activities involving NPCs use artificially bumped difficulty to compensate their primitive AI, with their super short machine-like reaction times, resistance to damage (aside from their heads), absolute accuracy and their sheer amount to begin with. Also, Online stopped being what it made it great and successful in the first place, now focusing on appealing to adolescent tryhards, with all these weaponized Saints Row rejects of vehicles. Methods of earning money are way more diverse than originally, but due to increasing in-game prices, only I/E warehouse with assisting bunker/coke ffactory/crates is worth the time and effort. Naturally, new gamemodes and other businesses are a waste of time, usually even during 2x money and RP events.

There still is potential and great ideas, but execution of vast majority of features introduced since the game's launch is simply terrible, and since the beginning of 2017, updates are more cookie cutter like and somewhat disposable than ever.

Due to modder plague and emphasis on PvP in freeroam, many people decide to play solo instead of socializing like in, you know, an online MMO game.

Autumn 2013 - Spring 2015 will be my most cherished period of playing GTAO. The game was leaner and simpler...and just felt more organic. And Special Crates were a thing which, as I've mentioned countless times before (sorry), I absolutely loved...even during the many failures. Such a simple concept that was engaging and rewarding and free!

I do still have fun today...but what I wouldn't give to be able to chase a new series of beer hats.

Sleepwalking

Passive mod sucked back in 2013, now at least it is nearly impossible to kill someone in passive mod.
