Is there a punishment for insulting people on support forum?

Hello everyone!

Today in Rockstar's support forum I saw a sentence, which said I hope you will die very soon, before that I've seen there a lot of insults. I wondered if these people, who write such awful things there can receive a punishment for that or such comments are simply removed and people, who wrote them don't get punished for that, because nobody cares about manners?!

With punishment I mean something like banned from forum.

Yeah most likely or have their posting privileges revoked.

I really hope so.

I think so.
But moderators would be quicker if those insults would prevent people from buying shark cards (x

I have enough reasons already why I won't buy their fish cards. If they don't punish on forum people, who writes something like I hope you will die very soon and a lot of insults, then this will be another reason why I won't buy their fish cards.

R* isn't known for paying attention to their own forums, and 90% of their replies are obviously automated by R* themselves, so it's not like they take insults seriously, to be honest.

Just ignore them.

If words hurt you then you're in for a tough ride, especially if you plan on gaming online.

If words would hurt me then I doubt I would be between living. This isn't about me being hurt, but about having some manners. Just because this is internet and people play game, where insults can be heard on every corner, doesn't mean there shouldn't be any elementary decency norms in it's support forum.

totally agree, I was just pointing out a solution for us individuals. R* do monitor their forum but the amount of toxicity probably makes it dificult to stop everyone from posting toxic messages.

There's a fine line between preventing people from being intentionaly offensive and preventing free speech. Society is heading too far into the latter today. Be careful what you wish for.

It's a good solution and that's all we individuals can do. I mean it's better to ignore them than wasting our time with these toxic people. True. Toxic messages are like fleas in fur. You remove 2 of them and soon you will see they are more than before.

When a person writes you or someone else something like I hope you will die very soon then, I think, it's time to prevent this person from being intentionally offensive. It's not normal when person writes you or someone else something like that just because yours or that someone else's opinion differs from this person's opinion.

I'm failing to see your point here, are you trying to say that someone telling you " I hope you die" is basically someone using "free speech"? some words from some keyboard warrior won't really offend me but that doesn't mean that it's okay or normal.

I understand. But punishment cures nothing, take these forums for example. They were absolutely toxic a few years ago, similar to what you've described above. Thankfully someone had the foresight to make changes with the way the moderators moderate. They are now kinder, better at communication, lead by example etc. I doubt the person who told you to die speaks to his family in that way. So when he does so he's only acting within the culture that Rockstar allow to exist on their forums. Therefor that is the root cause of them problem and what needs to change. Edited by StormerBoy

Yes it is free speech. I wouldn't say it to someone. But the concept of free speech supercedes the sanctity of life and people's feelings.

As said above. If you want to stop it from happening, your best bet is to educate those who do it about the effect it has on the recipient.

Doing nothing about it also cures nothing. If there won't be consequences, which says that toxic behavior isn't acceptable then basically doing nothing about toxic behavior says it's okay to try to hurt people, it's okay to be so toxic. And then it's just a matter of time when people will turn into uncivilized individuals. Okay, I admit that I might've exaggerated things about turning into uncivilized individuals, but I hope you will understand what I mean.

I do understand. But let's get some perspective, looking not just at your case here but at society in general, we are the most civilised we've ever been. The actions you want taken against this individual are already happening more and more in cases like this. So you don't need to worry, you're way of thinking is in progress. But as I said above, he careful what you wish for. The machine is hungry, when it's finished stopping people from offending you, it will continue to eliminate other 'unacceptable' thoughts and behaviours. At what point will we have traded those for not getting our feelings hurt?
