How does getting work?

I'm only asking because I started a deathmatch to complete my daily objective today. I'm lv75 and not very good. Got a lv150 to join me one on one and he bet 170k. I won for the first time ever by using cover and moving when he died.

 

So...He bet 170k, I bet nothing not expecting to win, what happens to his bet? I didn't get it and didn't expect to. Not much I can find on the subject, hence the new thread.

Well, I've lurked on this forum for years and I lost my first thing and autocorrect says Getting instead of getting and I don't know how to fix it.

It works like any other type of betting

 

Place a bet, if you win, get the money back, plus the winnings

 

If you lose, you lose the money

 

The winner does not get the money that the loser placed on the bet, it is simply lost

If only one player bets, the betting is canceled and he is not charged.

I've never fully understood how the betting works either. Am I correct in thinking that the bets need to be placed on different players in order for them to be viable? So if everyone voted on the same person to win it wouldn't count? Maybe I'm wrong about that or this only triggers if there are just a few people playing the job or even just two in the lobby going one on one? Also I only ever seem to have a very small pool of cash to bet with. I think the max bet I can place on myself to win is $1000. I'm sure I've seen other players make much higher bets though so does your betting cash pool perhaps increase with the more betting wins you have overall?

multiple players need to bet otherwise the bet is cancelled before the match starts. If two people or more bet on the winner yes they all get paid. I thought the max bet was 10k (in races) but it's been a long time since i've seen a bet option, i don't race or DM these days. Edited March 31, 2018 by FlacidJack

The max bet (on PS4 at least) was reduced to 1000 to stop a money glitch.

Max bet on xb1 (for me, on both characters) is $1000

In my experience betting works by offering me 6 or 7/1 until I bet the max ($1000) at which point the odds change to ⅗.. I'm not sure R* have ever placed a bet in real life.
