GTAO is the most fun racing game currently available.

Burnout Paradise would like to object to that.

I fully agree with the flaws to racing here, and it's arcade-like nature. Catch-up and curb boosting are just daft, but with the right circumstances, often manageable too. And stunt races, or those added since aren't for all. (I don't like the Transform one's myself much). They are a bit crazy and daft, lol.

But for me, and I won't bash it too much just yet, but this game is just more fun that Gran Turismo Sport at the moment for me.

Not all of it, just the sport mode. I've loved that franchise since the start, similar to here. GTA is far from the best 'racing' game, but considering the vast amount of stuff in this game, and the options we do have with races here, it's not a bad ol' game really.

Players be players. Unfortunately, as seen with GT sport, it's very hard to judge races and use a penalty system. But I love GT, so I'll give them time to try and fix that up. If GT or someone else can find the blend, then hopefully as time goes on, and as GTA grows with all aspects getting more and more detailed, (racing like GT, or what becomes 'best'. Combat like COD or what's best for that, etc, etc), then it'll be easier to find good, more realistic racing in GTA with less of the silly stuff that comes with it here, lol.

That said, I don't mind the odd bumpy race, lol. I like that we're left to it out there to make our game of it. So many scenarios just for racing, let alone the rest. :)

Peace.

I'm not digging at you so please don't take it like that, but to me you're over-generalising. You're suggesting that the flaws of racing are acceptable because the parameters of GTA online are fantastic as a whole. It's a great game with so much variation, so we can put up with the little annoyances in racing. That's absolutely fine and, after all, racing is just a single part of the best GOAT in my opinion, but that doesn't mean racing couldn't be better. A whole lot better.

GTA, from a racing perspective, should eliminate programming flaws like curb boosting and the need for off-road tyres on supercars, ffs, and use ideas from Gran Turismo like time penalties for going off track or driving dirty, and ghosting out players who suddenly veer off track, drive slowly, etc.

Lonely-Martin

^ All good. I didn't mean that I accept the flaws, well, I do, we still play it after all, lol.

I just make more allowances as the game isn't a racing game as such. But absolutely agree, there's so much this game can learn from racing games in general to make this better overall. As mentioned above, Burnout is great fun IMO, there's much in that game that could be added here. Takedown type races/car tag type of things. Even proper Demolition Derby type bowls and banger racing on figure 8 tracks, lol. Adding things like that could also ease the chaos on more proper races too. Gives us races to smash each other up too, raking up points that way, lol.

The curb bosting, without doubt should just go. That's very poor to see becoming more and more 'the way'. And though I agree the catch up too is just terrible in it's implementation, I'm not against a catch up system. (One that boosts slower cars, not hampers the leader mind). And races, like In The City, where we can't make stunt jumps if leading when catch up is on, is about as simply lazy as they can get making this stuff too.

That said, aside the curb boosting which is definitely something I saw enough of on old gen. Much of the real crap with races, like the bad creating of the race I mentioned, is related to these stunt races quite often. The street racing we had before, especially the player created stuff that was pushed and verified more, I found to be pretty cool. R* gives us the platform, we can minimise much of the crap too. The tunnels/stunt jumps that folk block off to troll races is something I've also found to be more an issue with the modern DLC/stunt races too. It's terrible stuff from players, but also, just another symptom of the problem with much of the DLC issues that came, like DDH and it's many bugs. The added stuff, especially current gen is just not as refined/tested as the initial stuff that was the game back in 2013/old gen. Gotta bare in mind we're using a 2013 game at the core that's very lazily been added to, unfortunately in regards to the latter.

Far from perfect, but I do feel penalties would be too much, as it's hard to implement properly I feel, more-so this GTA because of the glitching and other pap like lag too. Though can agree lapped cars or those going backwards/messing around could be addressed better too. (Ghosting etc). Options like blow up last place or catch up should be more highlighted to be chosen by hosts rather than ignored or default settings. Something to get folk to consider those options more, you know?. Definitely be a plus.

Again, for me. To fully compare GTA's racing to a GT is a bit hard because the creators here just have more to consider than racing as a whole, or departments were/are smaller. And until all areas can be as detailed/concentrated on as in a racing game way like GT/Forza and all, all I can judge is how much fun I have with what's here/there (in GT).

Not to say a penalty system can't work, but we do need one that's a lot better than GT's at present to keep the fun factor to the game. As for me, the racing here can be so many things to anyone really. Serious for crews, with options to help there, and something for the casual to just enjoy too, or low ranks, again, with the options we have, as sh*t as catch up is, it does give good racing low ranks a better chance too, lol.

I love my GT, so it really took me aback to see just how frustrated I became over there, I don't want to knock it so, but feel I do enjoy it here more currently. Maybe it's just because I expect less 'good' here, lol. Definitely not looking to give GTA excuses for the lazy stuff, just I feel that more came with later DLC too, not that I want to say The Benz was the reason for the earlier stuff that this game had, but I see many do say this at times, and looking at racing, earlier days were far better than when these stunt races came along, lol.

All good Jenkiii. To be fair, Polyphony are still trying to address their problems, and they are far less than GTA's laundry list, lol. GT the game is awesome, beautiful too. Just the issues it does have really take that shine off it for me. But plenty of time for them to nail it, and it is a new direction for them. Teething problems really that I'm just venting at, lol.

Thanks for reading, apologies for the ramble, and take care. Peace.

Above Omnipotence

We'd have a lot more folks racing if curb boosting didn't exist. LOL

With a title like that I just can't resist doing this:

Ladies and Gentlemen, in order to make Sport Races great again we need to deport the Pariah to the super Class! and then we will build a wall to make sure it stays there and doesn't come over here and cause trouble in the Sports Class!

Introducing virtually indestructible personal racing cars was a poor move. Wrecking ones car and having to find a npc car to finish the race was fun in GTAIV.

Another poor move was quick race. You could not filter race types.

Looking forward to GTA Race target shooting in GTA6 Hopefully passive mode will be a feature so we can hit the targets without being blown up by other players.

That is a symptom of the infernal catch-up. It's the only thing that gives you any chance of preventing your car from slowing to a crawl so that a mob of crash-happy 150 rank morons can catch up and ram you off the track.

On topic I used to love trying to make my own races on the 360 and my goal was always to get a race rockstar verified...I put so much into trying to make original races and actually believed rockstar would verify a race on merit...that seems like forever ago now and tbh I'm now convinced that people just want garbage jump races as that's now all their is getting pushed.

Why can't they just verify some races like they used to?

I agree, the best way to counter dirty racing is having race wins be based on your time to complete the track. Each time you slam into someone, the game adds a few seconds onto your time, so even if you succeed with knocking the guy off the track and finish the race ahead of him he still may come first based on the time penalties you received by knocking others off the track. The only problem with such a system is that most players are infamous at being sh*tty drivers, and collisions could be from incompetent driving than it was any intent to race dirty, and chances are the system would struggle differentiating between the two.

We all seen the infamous car pile up on the first turn in a race, that would be a lot of players ending up with time penalties that are undeserved.

One simple fix might be to make any car that is being slipstreamed and is showing the slipstream lines "heavy" so that an attempt to pit or ram from the car behind ends up simply spinning them out instead. That's where most attacks come from. I played Double Loop today and I was ahead into the last tubes with a guy some way behind me, but I knew that I had already lost the race, because he had time to "catch-up" and inevitably, rammed me off the track and over the barrier as we went into the final right hand double bend.

It's sh*t, it really is.
