We need Midnight Club update in GTA so bad :(

NOS on a variety of motorcycles, sports, tuners, suvs; and every other category that generally gets no play.

I agree above, if they aren't gonna make another Midnight Club, atleast have a Midnight Club styled update

- vinyls you can move and scale to your desire (this is a double edged sword however because you know those edgy kids are gonna put something completely racist on their cars)

- A sh*te ton of new tuners and SUVS NO SPORTS OR SUPERS

- Make new classes to split up current classes (Tuners, Rally, Electric, etc.)

and more (but this isn't make a new dlc sooooooooo)

Anyways, racing currently in GTA is at two ends.

At one end, it's a complete free for all of smashing and griefing. Players just smash at their hearts content without giving a damn about the actual race.

At the other end, it's super strict racing groups you have to join. While it's the better option personally, it's very serious and some races take a while to complete.

I just wish there was a happy medium to all this. Where all the players taking part actually want to win with somewhat serious intentions, but not too serious. The races are still only around 3-4 laps, but no one is crashing into people on purpose.

You want race to be great again? Here's how make a penalty for those childish players, 3 times spinning out opponents minus 1 lap, they have to do extra 1 lap, driving backwards? Make em passive so no one crash for 1 minutes if they still drive backwards in 1 minutes they will be kicked

create a classic road race like mille miglia race from LS to blaine county with spectators and new props, winner is determined by lap times not position

midnight club races like everyone asked but add in cops so those childish rammers would get f*cked by the police, and make it passive when someone wants to crash or ram us

If they can't do that just add some burnout/destruction derby/nascar rumble type of sh*t, devs can shove that stunt races up their ass, boring

Yeah right, like Rockstar wants clean racing in their game. Why else would the "clean lap" award be so small? They want racing like everything else in the game, bumping, banging, and grieving. I love the new stock cars for racing. I actually feel like I'm racing. Frankly, I hate the idiots that drive backwards on the tracks, or will sit still and wait for cars to come along then pull out to hit them. Before Rockstar does anything else, they should fix these mechanics. If a player drives backwards for more than a certain distance (some people legitimately miss a checkpoint and have to turn around) they get kicked out of the race or they turn ghost. A kick from race option would also be nice.

I find the hotlap or whatever it's called to be unplayable. I've tried it non contact and it's so g*d damned boring I literally fall asleep before the end.

Tried jumping into regular contact races and it's just ridiculous with the ramming. I found my way to 1st place at least 4 times in a race, got knocked off the track and every damn time ended up 15th or worse after the reset. Then laps and laps to get back into the top 3..wash rinse repeat. The stunt races at least you can open up some distance and there is no easy way to grief people except ramps ect.

The only lap that actually matters in these new Hotring races is the last one. Maybe if they required more skill, but with catchup on all of the laps besides the final one are pretty much a waste of time.

As much as I love to race in this game, there's no question it can be way better. I agree with most of the things you guys are saying. Would R* ever put any of it into the game? I don't know. Some of the things you guys mentioned are features in the Forza series and Gran Turismo, like getting paid based on how hard the race was, or getting penalties for being a dick. I actually would like to join a serious racing crew, but I do takes breaks from the game from time to time, so I don't know how that will work out.

I also would like to see performance tuning in this game, but it is so hard to imagine R* putting that in GTA at all. I always thought, at the most, they could just put variations of performance parts, like one transmission could be regular, the other tuned for acceleration and the other tuned for top speed. I thought something like that would be cool.

A kick from race option would also be nice.

There is. Press Start - view players - choose the player you want to kick and choose kick. If several players do that to one player that player will be kicked midrace.

Thanks.

- Catchup should work backwards, it should boost the speed of the players behind 1st place instead of slowing down 1st place only. You could even have "tiers" of said boost depending on your position, players in last place could get the strongest boost and 2nd places could get close to none.

That's actually how catch-up functions in every other racing game that I know of.

From the local arcade racers to home games like NFS, a boost is given to those behind.

That way if someone truley sucks, they won't be able to catch a better driver, however the boost can help recover from a mild mishap.

In NFS games though it's often used to apply more pressure on players via speed boosts to NPC police as well, similar to the effect in Story Mode in GTA V.

The feature in this game for multiplayer IS NOT a catch-up feature, it's a punishment system for superior drivers.

R* labeled it wrong, both in calling it Catch-up & "giving other places a chance".

The game was ruined by stunt racing where they caved to the idiotic children that made races with kerazy jumps etc.

If they made proper racing pay more and reward skillful drivers monetarily for being able to drive it would go some way to rescue it.

I love racing on proper circuits and street racing but unfortunately I also am aware of the amount of money I need to make to keep up...still i sometimes race with clean racers on a playlist.

Problem is too if you try and get a Lobby going it recommends the stupid races and everyone votes for them and proper racers all leave.

They're two very distinct things racing on roads with corners that require skill and driving largely forwards going over Mario kart esque arcadey terrain with speed boosts and loop the loops etc...why rockstar draws no distinction is beyond me...when they announce a new racing update all racers hold their breath in hope of something not like that but we're disappointed every time.

Until they announce a street racing update of some sort, I'm literally going to expect all races they add to be stunt races. I remember how they used to add new street races with the old updates they put into the game. It would be nice if they still did that, but oh well.

Why don't you use the track sections in creator to create your own more realistic track? Or look for user created tracks which are relatively stunt free?

I made this one as a test track, and because I wanted a desert-based raceway. It is themed around an abandoned race circuit with bits of debris and foliage here and there, and a collapsed section of elevated track at the end.

Ive actually modified it a bit since that video, and added a second banked U turn, but the gist is the same.

There are some half decent non-stunty user created racing circuits out there if you look.

I've been trying various tracks but good ones are hard to come by. There are 2 Laguna Seca clones but they're not spectacular. One is actually crap.

Might have to give the creator a go. Is it tough to learn?

Yeah I've made many of my own tracks but due to the toxicity of the community just like those parkour deathmatches etc no one will in their right mind join those:

My main issue isn't that there's no proper circuits as there are many in my bookmarks and I love the older rockstar ones like dipping in etc but that they add nothing but garbage now and often offer double money on stunt races which is the biggest insult.

GARBAGE

It's way too optimistic to expect someone ready to spend time photoshopping a Donald Trump photo who then posts said photo in GTA forums to spell correctly and use good grammar. There is a high correlation between young Donald Trump supporters and those with critical thinking and educational deficiencies.

As for what I said up there about the GTAO being the best racing game, I'm obviously not kidding. No other racing game even comes close. The variety and fun factor and ability to control racing modes to decide whether you want a fair race or chaos is second to none against all racing games in the history of video gaming.

GTAO succeeds as an arcade racer better than ANY Gran Turismo ever succeeded as a racing simulator --- actually, I extend that to include any racing game. It's that good.

As for what I said up there about the GTAO being the best racing game, I'm obviously not kidding. No other racing game even comes close.

Yeah by virtue of them being racing games and GTAO being what happens when you lock 30 monkeys in a room and describe to them what a car is and then expect them to make a racing game out of that information.

GTAO racing will never be great, to do that it would need a ground up tear down and rebuild and given that Rcokstar barely have the skill or talent to release cars that drive like f*cking cars the chances of that ever happening are somewhere between nil and the devil ice skating to work tomorrow.

On the other hand the racin gin the game can and should have been made much more bearable a long time ago and it honestly doesn't take much to do that.

1). Catch up, not even going to suggest that it is changed to work the same way EVERY OTHER f*ckING CATCH UP IN EVERY OTHER f*ckING RACING GAME WORKS, no a simple suggestion that it be set to default off, that's it a simple easy flag switch surely?

2). Control the trolls, ghost those that go a lap down, f*ck just ghost the guys who drive the wrong way round or opt to not pass a check point after a pre-set time limit

3). Reclassify the cars, the super, sports etc system is broken mostly due to Rcokstar being too lazy to balance their cars and rate them correctly. All the car stats are held as values in the vehicle data files, an algorithm could easily be used to take this data and give a value out of 1000 for the vehicle. Race hosts can then set an upper and lower rating system e.g 850 - 1000 meaning that a player can choose ANY car that falls in that value and in theory you would have better matched cars taking part in races. You would also give players the chance to start using older vehicles that are consider worthless in racing by setting tighter car restrictions on the race. On the flipside you could also set the upper and lower limits to 0 and 1000 which could potentially mean a race in which players could use ANY vehicle. In essence it would allow for tighter better controlled vehicle types in vehicles but also allow for more varied free for all races as well.

4). A total reclassification of races, I want better control over what types of racing I can take part in. I want to be able to chose if I join a race with certain criteria the current set up of selecting a quick join race and ending up in some god awful stunt race because the game decided that's what I wanted is way past reasonable.

5). f*ck off with the crap physics, cars cannot steer while in the air, motorbikes do not go faster when you wheelie, driving over kerbs doesn't make you go faster and gravity is 1g oh and get that stupid crash magnet attraction game mechanic that is only active in races to the farthest side of f*ck.

Really easy stuff to be honest.

Man, I guess some of us just accept GTAO for what it is. GTAO racing is not like real racing games. That is why I love it. None of your complaints are invalid.

But...

#1. Catchup can be turned off.

#2. Destroy last place can be turned on.

#3. You're asking too much of GTAO. These are very specific, borderline racing simulator type requests.

#4. Matchmaking and the job list screens and all that - for everything - are terrible. But that's not just a racing issue. That's a global issue.

#5. Another borderline racing simulator request. I and many others specifically enjoy the ridiculous physics. The worst problem is the curb boosting. That's the only real issue that ruins a lot of races that stands out for me (that can't be controlled with some setting change).

#1. Catchup can be turned off.

Catch up is functionally broken and actually IS broken, if Rcokstar is unable or unwilling to fix it or make it work as every other racing game makes it then the very least they can do is turn it off by default.

#2. Destroy last place can be turned on.

So I have a sh*tty first lap, in a 10 lap race, I should be destroyed after the first lap when I could very easily make a fist of coming back? I said this in another thread but GTSport had an issue with back markers and trolls letting themselves get lapped so they could f*ck with the leaders and Polyphony had a working ghosting system for them implemented within 2 months of the games release. The solution to a troll should NEVER be to punish the legit players and destroy last place punishes legit players.

#3. You're asking too much of GTAO. These are very specific, borderline racing simulator type requests.

Really, to sort the classes out so that the races have a better spread of vehicles, so that 95% of cars in a class aren't rendered useless. f*ck Rcokstar could create a Mk1 and a Mk2 Super class and shift the lower 50% cars in to one and the upper in to another, I seriously doubt it would be that hard to rework the classes so that cars that barely ever get used get a chance to be used again.

#5. Another borderline racing simulator request. I and many others specifically enjoy the ridiculous physics. The worst problem is the curb boosting. That's the only real issue that ruins a lot of races that stands out for me (that can't be controlled with some setting change).

Border line simulator request, you are kidding right? Have the cars behave at the very basic level like a car? I am not talking frictional coefficient, cadence braking effects the implementation of accurate LSDs or weight transfer I am talking about making it so that f*cking bikes can't fly by doing wheelies, or cars that go faster or handle differently because you put a f*cking lighting strip on them.

If they made it so if you race dirty and get first place at the end you lose the money you would have earned as it goes to paying for everyones insurance seeing how we are law abiding when it comes to paying insurance and on the end screen where you see the player in front of his car hes bent over enduring the rape animation modders would do

Except you throw around "degenerates" when describing 90% of onlines player base, because they've accepted online for what it is.

1. Catch up is broken and is usually left on because players are too f*cking stupid to mess with game options.

2. Destroy last place only encourages dirty racing, rewards cheap tactics and drastically shortens a race.

3. No we're not. There are existing in game mechanics that could be applied in certain situations and would improve racing drastically.

4. I don't see how you could call racing fun when getting into a race is in itself a chore.

I hate doing Hotring Races in non contact anyway, it ruins the f*cking purpose. Ramming and collisions I don't mind (they're funny as fk most of the time) since this is NASCAR inspired racing anyway and that's what happens but driving backwards or purposely ruining other people's cars deserves to have your disc snapped in f*cking half.

I agree, we did a 15 vs 15 crew battle in crew colored stock cars on the Hotring tracks. Contact, slipstream, catchup all on. Only rules was no going backwards or setting roadblocks, dirty racing was ok. One of the most fun racing I have had.

I'm a pretty experienced racer I suppose, with over 4000 races to my name, and some of the racers in our crew have 10000+ races... so here goes, and let's state the obvious by saying Catchup sucks from a realism point of view, we all know that, but it can be turned off and shouldn't even be a thing if you're serious about racing. So let's brush over that, and discuss the real issues.

# Curb Boosting.

If you hit a curb in GTA online you go faster because of the mini jolt to the suspension that propels you slightly forward. It's ridiculous, and in the real world hitting a curb or any kind of obstacle SLOWS YOU DOWN. Rockstar's version of racing is a type of arcade game, and illogically, people will veer all over the track looking for curbs, pavements, bumps, anything they can find to go FASTER, whereas the guy in a straight line driving clean falls behind. We're so used to curb boosting now that we do time-trials on tracks looking for every possibility, and just accept it as part of GTA online, but it's still completely unrealistic and shouldn't be part of the game at all.

# Off-Road Tires.

Due to curb boosting, absolutely every 'race-worthy' super and sports car I own uses off-road tires to get an extra advantage from curb boosting. Take a look around one of my showrooms - my Wagner, XA-21, Autarch, RE-7B, etc... all have off-road tires. As does my Pariah, Jester Race-car, Feltzer, etc... We use off-road tires because most super and sports cars have a 'no clip' option in the programming, which enables them to grip the curb instead of running through it like a flat piece of road. This allows off-road tires to get more grip and therefore more mini-jolts forward. This should NOT be a thing. Off-road tires on tarmac make cars go slower because they have less adhesion to the tarmac, whereas slick tyres have more adhesion.

So, without going into any further details or niggles about what spoils GTA online from a serious racing perspective, the above two examples are things that need to be sorted out in the next rendition of GTA online. Don't get me wrong; sometimes curb boosting can really add excitement and variation to a track, and using the right configurations for your cars is a type of tuning knowledge I guess, enabling skilled players to get an advantage over the competition, but from a realism and fairness point of view, these should not be a feature of GTA online.

Lonely-Martin

I fully agree with the flaws to racing here, and it's arcade-like nature. Catch-up and curb boosting are just daft, but with the right circumstances, often manageable too. And stunt races, or those added since aren't for all. (I don't like the Transform one's myself much). They are a bit crazy and daft, lol.

But for me, and I won't bash it too much just yet, but this game is just more fun that Gran Turismo Sport at the moment for me.

Not all of it, just the sport mode. I've loved that franchise since the start, similar to here. GTA is far from the best 'racing' game, but considering the vast amount of stuff in this game, and the options we do have with races here, it's not a bad ol' game really.

Players be players. Unfortunately, as seen with GT sport, it's very hard to judge races and use a penalty system. But I love GT, so I'll give them time to try and fix that up. If GT or someone else can find the blend, then hopefully as time goes on, and as GTA grows with all aspects getting more and more detailed, (racing like GT, or what becomes 'best'. Combat like COD or what's best for that, etc, etc), then it'll be easier to find good, more realistic racing in GTA with less of the silly stuff that comes with it here, lol.

That said, I don't mind the odd bumpy race, lol. I like that we're left to it out there to make our game of it. So many scenarios just for racing, let alone the rest. :)

Peace.
