trip
Before the internet the world was a lot larger. Now a days it's easy to lose track to what is "local" and what is common.  Like... I just made myself a fluff-r-nutter(or however it might be spelt or pronounced).         Is this a local/regional thing?  Anything you might have simular thoughts about concerning normal everyday things you have/enjoy/eat/deal with? HolyGrenadeFrenzy
I've never seen such a sandwich before.  That sandwich is an interesting looking concoction, yet not to my tastes, certainly not.  Yet...I live in Central Nebraska of the United States of America on the North American Continent.  All we really have is railroads, ears of corn , cattle, churches, bars, bikes and rodeo's  We have to go out of town to meet women folk around here, because they have enough sense to know this area is a place to flee and go off to college, returning only to visit relatives. It's an accepted theme here.  There is enough testosterone here to make the whole state ignite and explode, sending the planet into the sun, figuratively speaking that is. Skeever
Oh man, that brings back memories. I used to have those sandwiches when I was a kid... we called them "peanut butter and fluffs", if I remember correctly. They might be a New England thing, I don't know. Â For a while, I thought Whoopie Pies were popular nationwide, but they're apparently irrelevant outside of New England. Begoo
My friends back in high school used to eat put chips of any flavour in a sandwich. We even used to mix cola with sprite or fanta lol. Ever since i was a kid i used to eat bread with coffee with milk, like you dip piece of bread in a coffee and then eat it, but make sure you put some sugar in coffee too, its really delicious, but i dont think it will taste as good with different brands of coffee. Now my mum used to put Bananice (look it up) its like a banana shaped chocolate with like banana taste in it, with bread like a sandwich. Yeah mixing stuff is quite common. trip

HolyGrenadeFrenzy
I know its not really a local thing but in general does anyone else dip their french fries into an ice cream/milkshake and eat it like that? I once was with a woman that insisted that I try that. Â I did and it wasn't terrible. Â Yet....properly done fries deserve a proper brown gravy to dip them into. Â Sure, Chili and cheese fries are fun sometimes, so are: Ketchup and salt, Dorthy Lynch Salad Dressing, Home Made From Scratch Ranch Style Dressing, Apple Cider&Olive Oil, a proper cheese sauce, Cholula Hot Sauces; less on the mayo or sour cream and dozens of other sauce dipping choices however. Â Does that answer your question? Rougarou

HolyGrenadeFrenzy
No we have pizza, btw that looks gross I will never understand white peoples obsession with eating stuff that doesnt go together JUST BECAUSE they dont go together   It's only about contrast and has nothing to do with ethnic or nationality. There are combinations and dishes with contrast and things that don't seem to go together in each and every ethnic and nationality. It expands and complicates the range of the taste forms of the palate, that's all.  Asian dishes, many of them actually; Indian dishes, Native Tribal dishes of all of the Americas; Australian Dishes, each group and subgroup; British........well yeah, yet face it....no one recognizes their version of other peoples dishes anyway. Oh,!!!!......not my intention.  Point is, if you look for making issues racial or nation based then your mind will create all sorts of associations for you to verify your precognitive conclusions. It's not fair to you, it's what is referred to by some as The Seeding of The Tribal Genesis Atom, yet current vernacular makes this difficult to understand the meaning of without translation and reiteration. Basically, just like Family Connections and Bonds it is natural for the mental and social parts of mankind to draw supportive associations and relatedness. This is supported by the forming or creation of inclusive and exclusive distinctions, many of which our minds will make up for us to be able to arrive at the stronger survival position that it has so often given mankind in the past. The occult study of this is faster than the Ethnographic Study.  Yet....we often don't need that particular connection in the modern day of associations. Is it possible we will need them in the future soon? Depends on where you are at the moment and whom IOU associate with perhaps. Will future generations need this instinctual cognitive behavior to overwrite their own cognitive behavior? Maybe, yet there is no way of knowing the direction the entire species and it's subgroups will take at this time.  Get it? Rhoda
Crisp/potato chip (delete as applicable) sandwiches are popular here in the north of England, though I'll guarantee at least every region of the country is at least aware of it being one of those dirty snacks you don't talk about too much. I like to add a condiment to mine for added flavour and moisture, such as ketchup or even a hot mustard. The combination of soft bread and the crunch of the crisp is a journey of texture over flavour. The only annoying thing here is if you handle the sandwich wrong, showering yourself in potato-based confetti. That's a party I will not send an RSVP to. Â Also, we have a habit over here of sticking savoury pies on muffins/barms/tea cakes/rolls/baps. I added all those options because here in the UK people can't seem to agree on which word to use for something as simple as this. Just for added context, here is a near perfect example of the finest English export since the Enigma codebreaker.
Nico
That sandwich in the OP reminds me of when we were really poor back in the early 2000's, my parents were separated and in debt, and sometimes the very only thing we had for lunch was a literal mayonnaise sandwich. If you can even call it that way. It was just bread and mayonnaise. I constantly moan about nostalgia and other stuff, about how I miss the simpler times when I was a kid, but in some other aspects of life I'm glad time moves forward. Â Here in my meat-eating country a sandwich needs something solid between the slices to be considered a sandwich. Ham, cheese, salami, some kinds of sausage, mortadella, etc. Never tried a sandwich with these overly sugary things that are so common in America. Also, since we are talking about this, I wonder why you americans always cut out the crust of the slices of bread. I've seen that sh*t in movies and even cartoons. Why you do that? I'm not gonna bring the "africans could eat that crust" card but is still kind of a waste IMO. I can understand people leaving the crust of a tart, that's pure flour, but leaving out the crust of bread seems a bit overkill to me. Â EDIT: Somebody told me this is apparently a kids thing. But still, I don't quite understand it. Edited March 28, 2018 by Nico Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Rhoda
Borders (crusts) of a sandwich are often a dull part. I'll eat them but they don't hold a candle to the rest of the sandwich... you know... the bit with the filling in it. If your filling overhangs, you've made your sandwich wrong and you should be disciplined immediately. Nico and HolyGrenadeFrenzy
