gooeyhole
How do you think this changes the future of GTA, and would it have saved Sega from going under console wise?
Hmmm nice bike
I don't think it would have been able to save Sega's issues on the console side, but I'd imagine the series would probably end up being released on other consoles eventually, especially if it turned out to be just as popular on the Dreamcast. Maybe it could have done for the Dreamcast what it did for PlayStation and sold a lot of consoles, but I think the discontinuation of the Dreamcast was inevitable by that point anyway, since it was discontinued in March 2001 (but games were still released on it up until 2002). If Rockstar was going to consider making the game for the Dreamcast, Sega's internal problems (and their then-bosses' not even wanting to make consoles anymore) were probably what made them decide to switch to Sony instead. The Dreamcast is a tragic story, the guy funding it during its final days died shortly after the console was discontinued iirc. I honestly do think GTA 3 could have gotten Sega a potential investor to keep it going because it had a lot of passion behind it, just no money. Probably at the very least extend it's lifetime until 02-03. Edited March 25, 2018 by Mr_Rager Hmmm nice bike and Ivan1997GTA
universetwisters
I would run into the nearest Home Depot and rip my legs off. Â But seriously though, nothing would've saved the dreamcast at that point. Just because GTA 3 is a good game, it doesn't mean that it could save an entire company. It's a video game, not Lee Iacocca. Zello, Samwell and gooeyhole

Typhus
The problems with SEGA at the time were so deep and profound that you could have sent them out to buy a cup of coffee and they'd come back with some magic beans. Towards the end, they really were that astonishingly incompetent. Â Case in point, the official SEGA Saturn Magazine in the UK routinely featured staff writers sniping at their Japanese counterparts, outright telling their audience that Japanese-made Saturn games were inferior and not worth buying. The final issue of the publication was an incredible sh*tshow of sour grapes, with them stating that if the Dreamcast failed SEGA was done as a console publisher. This enmity was apparently shared by the Japanese division of SEGA, who would rather sabotage Western made games out of principle rather than allow them to succeed on their own merit. Â Had Grand Theft Auto III been a Dreamcast exclusive, I sincerely doubt that it would have received the publicity needed to be a success. On the contrary, given SEGA's dire state at that time, it's entirely possible that elements within the company would have tried to talk down the game, and not want it to succeed Edited March 26, 2018 by Typhus Hmmm nice bike, gooeyhole and Lock n' Stock

Lock n' Stock
Shame about the Dreamcast, it looked to be a great console for it's time but it wasn't enough to complete with Sony's juggarnaut. Personally, I doubt even GTA III would have been enough to save it. Hussein Sonic, Hmmm nice bike and gooeyhole
