Jester Classic Appreciation/Discussion Thread

Not trying to be a dick, but Is there a way you can prove it?

I am not an expert on the subject at all, but I would assume that livery vehicles have an extra layer or shell over them that allows the livery to be changed. The shell is invisible with no livery applied.

 

Of course I could be completely wrong about how it works, idk.

 

Kinda, but not quite. Every car that has liveries has two masks in the paint material, second one is basically used for liveries, if the livery is not selected it uses a texture called "nodirt" that is 4x4 pixels so it is almost invisible. Such texture is present on Jester and it is (kinda) unused.

Also I'm going to say that it was made for PS3/X360. All the textures are quite small and there are no "+hi" textures included. All the problems with the model itself are possibly due to sloppy polycount update.

 

"nodirt" does what it's named as - doesn't display dirt effects. This isn't for liveries, liveries usually say "x_livery/sign_1" or "blank", and even then these aren't really necessary anymore since Rockstar started using the paint4 shader instead. Nodirt is used on the race details (smod_racedetail_d) because it's using the vehicle_mesh shader and they don't want dirt effects to appear on the model of the race detail stuff.

 

That texture doesn't mean anything.

The Deluxo spoiler is the same spoiler (more or less) as the tuner wing.

 

Been experimenting with that centre console... It's not going as well as I would like.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I am aware that the texture is bad, it is just a placeholder at the moment. I also cannot get the radio screen to work. I cant help thinking that I may be heading towards cheap knockoff with this. I could do something about that terrible texture at the lower portion of the default dash. Not sure what to replace it with.

 

 

Once I get some small details fixed. I will upload to gta5-mods this weekend, then after learning how to use sketchup I will update with the SA bodykits.

Can't you replace the whole dashboard? The Jester dashboard is a perfect fit for this car.

Just remembered this - mod by Da7K, pic by @MGgames100 - and IMO, even as a straight translation of the San Andreas Jester, it's still a better Supra than the Jester Classic:

 

 

Also, to use another of Da7K's mods, this is why just 'redo the design of the San Andreas version' doesn't really cut it:

 

 

It's a remake of the San Andreas Euros, and it works well enough as such, but ...it also looks very obviously like the design was ripped straight from 2004. Compare to the real deal - and remember that since GTA IV, R* has (for the most part) tried to emulate the look of real cars:

The Jester, Sultan and Elegy all look damn good.

The shape and silhouette of the new jester is 100 times better and more accurate than the old GTA SA jester.

 

The old one looks kinda retarded, specially the roof line.

It's all about the front end, IMO - that SA Jester mod has more Supra-esque proportions and shapes. The front vents are near-perfect replicas of the A80, the whole front isn't as 'thick' (for lack of a better word) as the bloated Jester Classic, the wheel arches aren't as raised (the JC almost looks like the Banshee 900R in that regard), and the front bumper extends past the wheels just like a proper Supra (whereas on the JC it's noticeably shorter, which throws the proportions off even further).

The rest of the bodywork of the SA version is ...eh, kind of long and flat, and a bit too angular. To be honest, neither really works as an adequate Supra-based GTAO car, because (again) that approach to design just doesn't fit in with the established HD-era look/approach. Needs to have accurate bits of real cars in there.

Despite the minimal customization, missing headlight piece and flat rear lights, I still might pick it up for the sake of having a Supra. That green one JR Death posted has made me fall in love with it. Itll also go nicely with my Elegy Retro and 190z.

I'll buy one if they fix the bugs, I'm personally okay with minimal customization as I prefer a stock look for my vehicles, but I won't be putting any money into something that's model is so obviously broken. It could do without the massive exhausts as well.

The guys who designed the original Flash and Jester are probably rolling over in their armchairs at the R* retirement home... the Flash goes from a Civic/Pulsar mashup to a Fiesta/Focus RS, and the Jester goes from being an ugly Supra to an even UGLIER Supra. I mean sh*t, at least the Flash GT looks really good as long as it's wrapped in a livery, no such bandage for the Jester Classic here unfortunately.

Who knows, honestly. I don't know if there is a lot of evidence that could point to this car being cut content; it just looks like it was designed for last-gen.
