Do ballas and Grove street exist in real life?

I was curious to find out if they exist in real life or not, no results about it on Google.

All I got was a video called "BALLAS GANG" which looked like ballas in real life singing a song.

Are they real ballas or not?

Hmmm nice bike

No, they're not real gangs, but they are based on real-life gangs in Los Angeles like the Bloods and Crips.

No. Could you imagine what would happen to Rockstar if they used real life gangs? It would be terrible! Dan Houser would be beaten with a shovel by some Crips while a couple of Bloods grab Sam by the legs and spin around and then let go so he flies into a wall.

There's also a dozen or so Grove Streets irl but if they have any gangs on them, I don't know.

No they do not - well definitely not the kind imagined by Rockstar.

But their creation by Rockstar was directly inspired by, and loosely based on the real life Bloods and Crips. However there are real life, small sub-sets of Bloods and Crips in LA that sport green and purple gang colours - the Lime Street Pirus (Bloods that wear green) and the Grape Street Crips (they wear purple).

im pretty sure youre referring to this video:

which is basically just a music video filmed by members of the grape street crips (which they namedrop) with the title ballas gang. basically the same with other ones titled similar, its just videos by a real life gang that wears these colours with the gang name as the title. as others in the thread have said the ballas and families are based on the crips and bloods (tho which is which is up to interpretation) tho real bloods and crips sets wear green and purple as war colors respectively - particularly, as OG above me said, the lime street piru and grape street crips

Well.....that's exactly what you get with the Grape Street Crips. Their hood includes the area around Grape Street and they usually wear purple clothing. As fictional as it may seem, it's real.

The question was centred on gangs, not rappers. Don't you guys know the difference between the two ? Or are you one of those guys who think rappers and gang members mean the same thing ? Ha ha !

Yeah but it is kind of relevant to the topic that certain gang members were based on real life people. Particularly as Eazy E was affiliated to the crips so in his case rapper and gang member were the same thing 😛

I don't know that this has any bearing on which gangs Grove Street/Ballas are meant to represent though, I think they're just supposed to be like LA gangs in general, probably the bloods and crips but not necessarily supposed to be matched up with one or the other.

You're both right and wrong in a sense. Yeah sure, many West Coast gangsta rappers were indeed affiliated with gangs like the Bloods and Crips, and may have once been gang members themselves - but remember the usage of past tense, 'were'. Once they gained a legitimate career as professional musicians being gangsta rappers, in most instances they stop being either gang affiliates or active gang members. So therefore, making references to gangsta rappers in this subject makes no sense and serves no purpose to getting an answer.

More to the point I was making. Stick to talking about the gangs (relevant), not the gangsta rappers (irrelevant).

I think it could be relevant if Grove Street Families was specifically supposed to represent the Crips and Ballas the Bloods (or vice versa), as one of the gang members being based on a rapper who was a Crip would give a clue as to which one each gang represented. Especially when one of the Ballas is also played by a rapper who's a former Blood (The Game). So I think it's a relevant point to bring up, even if in my opinion at least it turns out not to be relevant in the end because there's more evidence that they're not supposed to represent specific gangs than that they are.

And like, technically pointing out a member of Grove Street Families was based on a real life person is partially answering the question "Do ballas and grove street exist in real life" haha. I just don't think it's irrelevant enough that it's a problem to mention it in the topic 😛

You’re wrong, B-Dup was a GSF member but also a crack dealer, he was not a Balla.

Two most notorious black gangs in LA

its actually the other way around, if you hang around Families you will see them throw up B’s and if you hang around the Ballas you will see them throw up C’s
