Player is ghosted to you (is this new?)

Got this message today after killing a guy one too many times? how long has this been around ? new or have I just been especially bad today?

Quite old actually, like a couple of years I think. Most people don't use it so you won't see it too often. I think if you kill someone 3 times in a row without them killing you, they get the option. It lasts for a few minutes.

The in-game splash screen used to say:

 

"I ain't afraid of no griefer...".

 

...followed by more information on the Ghosted feature while the game loaded, and is reserved for people who "suck so bad and am too stupid to go passive on someone that triple killed me without taking damage".

 

Pretty funny I think.

That feature doesn't make any sense to me, I had players being "Ghosted to me" but they don't have an icon showing that, and some punks got some easy kills on me using that, how it works is you can't shoot or get shot by the player that you are being ghosted to for a period of time that even you, the user of the feature, can't tell how long it is, so you maybe sitting next to the player that you're ghosted to and then suddenly you'll be able to shoot /get killed by him.

If you kill someone three times consecutively in a short period of time, and that person doesn't register a hit on you, they will get an option on the respawn screen to 'Ghost' to you/that player. Very simple. It then gives that player two minutes to make their escape, find another session, whatever they want to do without being 'griefed'. Rockstar have since juggled the 'go passive' option to the bottom of the interaction menu to make it easier for people to do that now, but in the past it was 'kinda complicated' for some people.

Usually, when someone is ghosted to you, you can hop in, then out of passive mode, and you will be able to kill them.

Shows how much I do PvP, I thought it was something new that Doomsday added as I killed a team mate who had the wise idea to kill me after a Heist. Our CEO/MC didn't go into the same lobby so we didn't have that protection.

That was the only time I've ever seen anybody ghost me. And I've spawn killed quite a bit during my crate collecting the past few months. You destroy my crates, I kill until you leave. My rules

Just happened to me today too, and i must say in the 2600 hours i've played gta online.. i've seen this maybe 3 or 4 times.. it's really rare to see.. also it should last at least 5 minutes.. 2 mins is too little. And show it!, i didn't even knew about the cooldown until i came to this post..

Thanks guys, yeah I've honestly never seen it happen before and never seen the option to do it myself either (I've certainly been killed three times in a row). PS although the guy appeared as passive to me (translucent) I could still kill him by blowing up the car he was in while he was ghosted, I could still see his name above his head also.
