Probably one with Terrance Hill and Bud Spencer. Or the one with Henry Fonda and the guy with the harmonica. Or the one with Henry Fonda and Terrance Hill.

I started watching Godless this week (3 episodes in) and I'm really enjoying it.  The scenery, outlaw gang, and horse-breaking is giving me serious Red Dead vibes...lol.

I never knew Jeff Daniels could be so ominous.

I like them tough, and for me, Deadwood remains king. Untouchable. (Like others mentioned, also watching Godless at present, seen 2 eps, lol. Westworld is pretty damn cool too).

Love the two from Tarantino, fantastic movies for me, but The Wild Bunch was like 'The Warriors/Scarface/Alien of westerns' to me. One of the most violent, eye opening, earliest  movies I was able to catch as a kid, of the western genre. Looking back, not so tough in todays market, lol (Seen Saw/Hostel, lol). But the memories can't be replaced. Got to be the one if this many years later I still love it so, but I really could list too many, lol. Probably seen all but the odd one mentioned here so far, many times with love too, lol. :)

Much like Alien. I saw that as a 11/12 year old. Scared the absolute piss out of me. But I was in awe. Like The Wild Bunch, I was shocked really The 'naughtiest' the TV got in our house was stuff like Carry On movies, Or On the Buses, cheeky, but not too taboo, lol. (Couldn't even watch The Bill on TV back then, lol). Because of those movies/memories are why I love horrors, westerns, or whatever just the way I do, lol. Even The Wizard of Oz is still a guilty pleasure. Always loved classic cinema and learning what shaped the path along the way.

Sorry mum, I'm corrupted by the savagery I snuck out to see, lol. Red Dead/GTA, like candy to a baby here, lol.

Peace out.

My favorite western is For A Few Dollars More closely followed by El Dorado. I've watched these classics so many times and they're still so fun to watch.

The original True Grit is pretty badass, I haven't seen the remake.

A question for those whose favorite westerns are 'old school' or should I say more 'classic'.

Would you think any less of RDR2 if it DIDN'T contain a lot of profanity or do you basically need GTA on a horse?

I've been very much in the mood for a Western-a-thon since the gameplay trailer came out, but haven't had a chance yet.  However, I have been listening to some spaghetti soundtracks, including this classic:

This is a great movie for anyone looking for a Western with an unusual flavor to it.  The setting is snowbound - very rare for the genre, and Tarantino paid direct homage to it in "The Hateful Eight."  The main character is a mute due to a childhood injury.  And the ending is one of the most surprising I can remember - very unexpected and dark.  Like a lot of Italian Westerns the tone is a little uneven, but I think this is pretty much a classic.

I love Red Dead, but surprisingly, I'm not a fan of the Western movie genre. I think perhaps because a majority of the output is stereotypical, recycled, and monochrome--if not visually, tonally. It tries too hard to portray the Old West one way at the neglect of the vairety of life that actually was. In Red Dead, you get nods to those stereotypes, but you get lots of variety, and lots of color, both in display and in the form of character development.

But if I had to choose something to watch, it'd be a series: Lonesome Dove.
