What is your favorite wild west movie?

Recommended Posts

Unforgiven is my favorite wild west movie, It doesn't have badass natural gunslingers but rather two old washed up outlaws and a cocky greenhorn that are trying to claim the bounty of two men that cut up a women while being distracted by a corrupt marshal and his deputies. Its a very great movie, it has likable characters and a very realistic tone. Its sound track it excellent and the overall tone of the movie is a bit funny at times and very emotional at times where it matters. 10/10 in my opinion i highly recommend it.

I want a triggerable animation in RDR2, after I take down a gang of bad guys, where I fish my skinny cigar out of my shirt pocket, along with a match, strike the match on my jeans, light the cigar and take a couple of puffs to get it going, then look up thoughtfully, at the carnage I've just wreaked, while the heroic Morricone western theme swells in the background, up to full volume.

Nothing less will satisfy me.

EDIT: On topic: Unforgiven was immediately in my top 10 movies, as soon as I saw it. But The Wild Bunch is probably my most favorite. Of course, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a masterpiece.

That's such a hard decision ... there are so many great western. Mostly I like the old western more than the new ones. I really like all the known actors too.

I would probably want to distinguish at least between American and Italian Western :D

The atmosphere in this western is unique. The pictures and the soundtrack unforgettable.
The opening scene is legendary and Frank is such a real badass ... as he shoots the little boy in cold blood or lets the father of Harmonica stand on his shoulder with a rope around his neck. Not many words had to be spoken in this film ... to make it one of the best movies of all time

I have recently watched. A great vendetta ... and i like the old native :D
The tricks Clint uses to fool his pursuers are great.
I hope that's something similar in RDRII ...

I'd say Unforgiven and 3:10 to Yuma are good, but personally I prefer the Western TV shows such as Westworld and Godless

The Assasination Of Jesse James is really good too. You should watch it if you haven't already.

Here in my country we have tv channel that shows western movies 24/7.

I was wondering if other countries had that. lol. is it the channel all the old folks watch and does it advertise life insurance and catheters? lol. We got that. its one of the few channels you can get for free over the air that doesn't suck

and Yelda got it dude. The Outlaw Josey Wales. i just saw it last year after the 28th along with a bunch of other ones when the hype train had gotten a new shovelful of coal and man that is a badass f*cking movie!

I rather enjoyed Bone Tomahawk.

Rio Bravo,

Django Unchained,

Johnny Guitar,

Bitch Cassidy and the Sundance kid,

Once Upon A Time In The West

Pale Rider

High Planes Drifter

the outlaw Josey Wales

The Assassination of Jesse James was good. Open Range and Appolousa spring to mind too.

And Jeremiah Johnson. The movie that gave us this meme:

And does The Postman count? Haha

My favorite would have to be The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Such a flawless film if you ask me.

I rather enjoyed Bone Tomahawk.

Bone Tomahawk was amazing; the transition from a campy western to full-on graphic horror was one of the more iconic moments in cinema in recent years.

The Dollars Trilogy by a mile in terms of classic movies, more recently the genre seems to be dominated by Tarantino; The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained are both excellent movies.

Must have watched them in excess of 1000 times. I recorded them off TV on VHS in the early 80s, then bought the Warner Brothers VHS box set in 1989, then the DVD box set in 2003. I got the HD remake of TGTB&TU in 2013 but I was disappointed with Eli Wallach's aged voice in the remastered scenes whose audio was destroyed and they had to voice over. The deleted scenes were when Angel Eyes and Tuco met the gangs they show up with. I actually liked that they show up with gangs and you don't know where they came from. I can see why Sergio Leone thought they were superfluous.

Best scene in the trilogy is Tuco looking for the grave in the cemetery to the sound of Ennio Morricone's Lust For Gold.

Lock n' Stock

Too many to list, though the ones that I can name off the top of my head would be Once Upon a Time in the West, The Wild Bunch and The Outlaw Josey Wales. I need to rewatch the Dollars Trilogy so I can fully appreciate it more.

I'm going with Once Upon a Time in the West.

Hard to beat this scene. That flashback and the revelation of what Bronson's character is after still gives me chills. And that harmonica music. It's hard to believe someone composed music like this in 1968.

Just finished watching 'The Sheepman'. Glenn Ford. Not too bad at all, and pretty funny in parts. Wasn't mentioned here so I figured I would mention it.

I think im gonna watch 'The Shootist' next. it was John Wayne's last film and is apparently about an old gunslinger dealing with his age and the death of the Old West. I figure that would fit right in with the theme of RDR1.

Or maybe 'Once Upon a Time in The West' which someone up there recommended, and it's Sergio Leone the same guy that made 'Once Upon a Time in America'(Gangster movie. pretty good, but long. literally almost 4 hours). He apparently created the Spaghetti Western genre but I have only seen two of his films 'Once Upon a Time in America' and 'The good, the bad, and the ugly', so idk I'm just telling y'all the facts that I just read. lol

El Topo

El Topo (English translation: “The Mole”) is a 1970 Mexican western drama film written, scored, directed by and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky. Characterized by its bizarre characters and occurrences, use of maimed and dwarf performers, and heavy doses of Christian symbolism and Eastern philosophy, the film is about the eponymous character – a violent, black-clad gunfighter – and his quest for enlightenment.

Much like a typical Friday night out in Airdrie
