So... I saw Darren Aronofsky's mother! recently and my god, I'm so speechless about it. I thought it's just a generic horror movie like Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan, but this film goes way deeper than I think it is after seeing the ending of it. For some reason, I know majority of moviegoers will hate mother!, but I felt like Darren Aronofsky's latest film is going to be a cult classic in the near future. No wonder why Rockstar likes Darren Aronofsky so much...

I really, really liked it. When I found out that Aronofsky directed it, I knew I was in for a good treat, and boy was I not wrong. I loved the darkness and powerful meaning of Requiem For a Dream, which also happened to star the lead vocalist of one my favourite rock bands, Jared Leto, so it was great to see that Darren was behind this one, too. Despite the negative reviews, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's so dark, atmospheric, dramatic, and just... emotional. The thing I like about Darren's movies is that they have the ability to connect with you psychologically, which makes sense, seeing as it's a psychological horror film. Jennifer did an amazing job in the movie, as did Javier. The plot is very confusing and hard to understand, but that's another thing I like about these type of films; they make you think and wonder.

However, Darren has commented that the film has a religious/philosophical meaning to it. “It depicts the rape and torment of Mother Earth,” Jennifer said. “It’s not for everybody. It’s a hard film to watch. But it’s important for people to understand the allegory we intended. That they know I represent Mother Earth, Javier, whose character is a poet, represents a form of God, a creator; Michelle Pfeiffer is an Eve to Ed Harris’s Adam, there’s Cain and Abel and the setting sometimes resembles the Garden of Eden. For Darren to take these massive biblical themes and condense them into a narrative about a house and a couple I think is just brilliant. I have never heard of anything like it.''

Aronofsky himself has also explained his process of making the film, and just why he decided to tackle such broad themes in the guise of a traditional horror movie.“It came out of living on this planet and sort of seeing what’s happening around us and not being able to do anything,” Aronofsky told Variety. “I just had a lot of rage and anger, and I wanted to channel it into one emotion, into one feeling. In five days I wrote the first version of the script… It just sort of poured out of me.”

My favourite scene in the movie was when the obsessed fans start stealing everything in the house, and it just turns into a warzone and refugee camp, with the SWAT team coming in with guns. The film surprises you; it changes mood drastically. The first half of the film is very different to the second half of the film.

It's not among my favorites as far as weird art films go, but I enjoyed it. It was a really insane thing to experience. I don't really like how many people call the film pretentious, I think that's just disrespectful to the artist.

Very enjoyable movie for me. I like it when watching movies, especially horror that with each scene/set piece, you just Don't know what's to come and get that unsafe or insecure moments of tension. I went in blind as I like to do and really just enjoyed it. Points to Jennifer Lawrence as I feel she's overexposed and with how here career took off, easy to say no to a movie like this through fear of lesser work/appeal, and Javier Bardem is a fantastic actor with a real menace in him that seems so chilling, even in Skyfall he's got that 'keep your eyes on him' presence.

Do disagree that Requiem For A Dream is a generic horror though. That movie has a far deeper reach than a Freddy or Jason which are what I feel are generic, not that it's a slur, I grew up on those legends, lol.
