Im impressed with just how far into the deep end some of you go. This is nothing more than a one stop shop to entice those who havent purchased the game for the next gen to do so. Look, Ive done it before. Ive seen the ultimate edition of a game Ive sort of wanted but never had the time to play. Then one day I find myself with free time and see an offer for a version of a game (like Forza) that includes years worth of DLC. Now I feel like Im getting a bang for my buck, my patience for not buying it year one is rewarded and now Im spending cash on something I probably would have continued to skip but for whatever reason the ultimate edition concept tricked my brain...

You know, now that I think about it, my copy of RDR is the version that includes Undead Nightmare. Im not a RDR fan and it wasnt until they were packaged together that I bought the game at all. Funny thing...I played RDR but never really bothered with Nightmare even though thats what got me to buy in...

In short...no map expansion, no exclusive DLC, no 4K or 60fps...just a copy of the game with a redeemable code to give you free sh*t and an incentive to buy the game. If anything it may give players the starter pack plus some bonus GTA$

It would have also made them a ton of cash to make story dlc, but they didn't. They also talked about they have to rest the franchise at somepoint. GTA6 isn't that far away. It's been in development since 2013. And i know GTA6 is well into the bug testing phase. Well, the GTA6 game world is anyway. After making a GTA game Rockstar North have a few weeks rest and then get straight to work on the next. They always make the game world first and then add everything else in after. Rockstar North in the UK started hiring games testers last summer. This will be to bug test GTA6's world. And according to people who leak GTAV updates, they seem to be saying that 2018 updates won't be anything special at all. So i think GTAV is winding down.

Why would they create the world first? Doesn't it make more sense to put a story board together and build around that?

Both Dan and Sam Houser have said that's how GTA games are created. Always make sense to create the game world first. In the years it takes to create the game world Sam and whoever else can then create a story and characters etc. Then the last thing to be added is the voice work.

Rockstar would be very stupid not to add a map extension to GTA V! How long are we waiting for GTA VI? Until 2021 or 2022? No, Rockstar will not release 15 DLC by 2022. 3 DLC per year.

I'm pretty sure we get a new map. I think the players who play GTA with love are getting less and less. Modder, glitcher will destroy the game permanently. PC is destroyed. The PS4 is currently being cracked. Daily new glitches on the PS4 and Xbox.

Rockstar have said they need to rest the franchise at somepoint. Think about it. GTAV has sold 90 million copies. The vast majority of those players are burned out. How many play online now, just 1 to 2 million is it? I forgot but i know it isn't many now. Rockstar knows this. They said they don't want franchise fatigue like other big franchises, Call of Duty etc. They need to rest the franchise and then hype us up for GTA6. You know, like how Assassins Creed sales dipped so they rested the franchise and then when it came back people were hyped and sales went back up. If they kept adding and adding to GTAV right up until launch of GTA6 without resting the franchise many would say "Oh god, not another sharkcard grindfest, drive here, drive there, get paid very little etc etc etc...i can't be bothered to do it all again." And that would affect sales. I bet this year is the year that GTAV winds down and they hit us with GTA6 late 2019 to 2020.

Could this be the map expansion we've all been waiting for??? omg omg omg :panic::panic::panic:

p.s. if it is so i promise to be a good good girl and never talk sh*t about R* ever again!

Nope, sorry! Dan Houser said a few years back that in the next GTA they may try and connect all the GTA worlds/maps together when asked what the future of GTA would be. He didn't say they would, he said it was a possibility. They would see if they could do it. I remember when GTAV launched people were like "This is suppsoed to a retun to San Andreas but half the maps are missing from the original 2004 San Andreas, wahhhhhhh!". You can bet ya boots that GTA6 will be like GTAV but even bigger and more indepth. So i bet they will save extra maps/areas etc for GTA6. Rockstar and Take Poo Interactive no doubt thought about adding Liberty City to GTAV a few years back when it was rumoured in an attempt to add something new and keep people playing. But then decided to scrap the idea and save it for GTA6.

From a business perspective it would make more sense for them to add a paid DLC involving a map expansion, rather than throwing everything they've got into a new GTA.

What percentage of the player base would pay upwards of $20-$30 for a new map for GTA 5?? 70%? 80%? Maybe more.

Would this potential paid DLC stop anyone from then also buying GTA 6 when it comes out, even if it meant there was one less area of the map? I don't think so.

A new map for 5 is so appealing to so many folks who play this game, and could make Rockstar a ton of money.

And what Houser said several years ago means nothing now (it was also maintained that they wouldn't split the player base via different maps), because I doubt they foresaw such continued success with the online in this game after 4 years.

I'm not trying to argue that a map expansion is coming (though I hope so), but it's not an impossibility.

Things change.

They promised single player DLC early on, that was cancelled for whatever reason.

They implied no more heists (without saying as much), we got DDH.

Rumours were that I/E was the last big update to come to GTA:O yet we got more since.

Take Two aren't about to let Rockstar cage the goose that craps golden eggs everywhere. Rockstar are big enough to maintain GTA:O while also releasing other titles and, if they aren't, it's not like there is a lack of people out there looking for a job.

Rockstar Games have (d)evolved from a developer who make things for the fans to a developer who make as much money as possible for as little work as possible. There's been a clear shift since 2013. Possibly due to Leslie being pushed out (who to be honest, without, GTA:O wouldn't exist - nobody else at R* wanted it), possibly due to Sam Howser's turn to the greedy side, hell even Dan has changed since 2013, he was all about the fans, the players, giving as much away as possible and a very avid supporter of community mods etc. yet now, not so much. The fact Dan used to take the time to talk to the community but no longer does speaks volumes.

I digress, this is turning more in to the next dlc topic than anything.

On topic, we will have to wait and see. Personally I wont be holding my breath for anything remotely exciting though.

I always had an inkling we wouldn't get story DLC because of how the story ended in 3 different ways. You could choose to keep all 3 alive or kill 2 of them off. Kinda hard to write around. Things do change but even Take Two boss said they want and need to rest the franchise. So i don't think they will keep it going much longer. And has been said above. People who leak future dlc seem to be saying that there won't be any big special dlc in 2018. Even Rockstar support don't seem bothered about fixing bugs etc anymore. A year or 2 ago when i reported something via a support ticket they would be right on top of it and patch it and get it fixed up. But this year they really don't seem to give much of a sh*t. I reported a number of bugs glitching out my bunker, moc etc and the case has been left open for around 8 weeks now. Support just don't seem bothered with it anymore. There seem to be a hell of alot more glitchers/cheaters in the game recently too on PS4. Its gone from the odd cheater here and there to full on entire crews of super glitchers. Its as if they aren't even bothering to ban them anymore. This is part of why i think its starting to die down. Like i said, Rockstar North started hiring games testers last summer and these will be to test the GTA6 game world for bugs. Maybe support are now turning their attention to fixing the bugs in that rather than bother about GTAV so much. We shall see, time reveals all. :santa:

^ Good point, lol. (Ninja'd me, lol).

@ ice_cold...

The fixing of things costs time and money too though, and it's clear the game makes huge profit weather they fix it all or not. No point wasting money, is probably their approach there. And like Demonic said, things change and as he showed that I/E supposedly being the last of the big stuff. The game had a huge 2017 since then, as much as we can guess what they're doing, we really can't rule anything out, IMO.

Least that's what see's me open-minded. I don't believe a new map will come, but I'm not betting anymore, lol.

I thought all of that game testing stuff was for Red Dead?

Rockstar North in the UK have been hiring games testers. They did the same for GTAV 2yrs before that launched. Around 300 testers. Red Dead is made at Rockstar San Diego in the US. The first Red Dead was bug tested in the US. Rockstar San Diego have also been hiring games testers.

Makes sense. GTA6 has been in development since late 2013, early 2014. They make the game world first. They start hiring games testers in the summer of 2017 to test the game world for bugs.

Those of you who think we're getting gta vi so soon are dreaming. They won't announce it before rdr2, and when they do announce it, it will get delayed repeatedly. So I estimate 2021 or later.

They make half a million dollars a day from shark cards. If they want that to continue, they'll keep on patching bugs/glitches/cheaters.

I don't think they are running gta online down. If they were doing that, then there wouldn't be constant dlcs. But true they aren't creating new and original dlcs.

Rockstar are always hiring in each of their studios, just look at the sheer number of vacancies on their career's page.

Yup, but last summer Rockstar North were looking for "testers" not "a tester". GTA6 is well into development, trust me.

And btw, games testing isn't anything like people seem to think it is. Many seem think they will be sitting and playing the latest games all day and get early access. But in reality you are given a very very small section of a map, like a street or something, and have to play about on that same tiny section of the map all day for days and weeks. It gets very boring very quickly. And pays £16k a year.

They are always looking for QA. They don't only test at the end of the development either, they do this throughout.

I'm guessing here but you're basing what it's like to be a QA from what someone else has described or told you, right? No actual experience?

Rockstar North make more than just GTA too, just sayin'...

By the way, Rare are also looking to hire, does that mean a proper reboot of Goldeneye is coming? ;)

Nope. As has been said above. They make the game world/map first. Everytime they finish a GTA game they have a few weeks break then get straight to work on the next one. GTA6 has been in development at Rockstar North in the UK since late 2013 early 2014. That's 4yrs on the map. The map is now being tested for bugs. It took around 300 people 2yrs bug testing GTAV. If they started bug testing GTA6's map the summer of 2017 onwards they will be finised bug testing late 2018, early 2019. Then the story etc will be being added into the map and lastly the audio. So you are looking around a 2020 release. A release with the PS5 maybe....

As you will see above, i have explained that testing starts as soon as the map is well underway. I never said it only happens at the end of development. Obviously it happens throughout. The start making the map first. And as soon as the map is well udnerway bug testing begins. It took 300 people 2yrs bug testing GTAV's map. And yup, Rockstar North make more than GTA, but GTA is Rockstar Norths main focuses, GTA was invented there and always been created there. I have no idea about Rare. :santa:

Most people hate the word moist, doesn't make me flinch, but premium? There's not a single word on this Earth that irritates me more than f*cking premium.

That's just another name for "spend more money for something that should be free/we should have included from the get-go."

You know LA Noir is also a product of Rockstar North and that the CG port of it would have required some QA then, right? Hmm... November 2017 release...

You don't need to tell me how you thing the QA is carried out, you'll have to trust me when I say I very much know how it's done, when it's done and where it's done. You're quoting something you have read or something someone else has told you or just making things up, you shouldn't do that.

GTA VI could be complete and ready to launch, if GTA V is continuing to be the golden goose then they wont do anything to rock that, milk it for all it's worth, then milk it some more, and then when the milk runs dry they hit us with GTA VI news. They aren't stupid, they know there's plenty more milk in that cow yet.

:santa:

Not hard to write around at all, just simply not use those 3 characters at all.

Introduce a new character with a new story, just like they did in GTA 4

More like a trailer late 2019/2020 and release in late 2021/2022

Those of you who think we're getting gta vi so soon are dreaming. They won't announce it before rdr2, and when they do announce it, it will get delayed repeatedly. So I estimate 2021 or later.

They make half a million dollars a day from shark cards. If they want that to continue, they'll keep on patching bugs/glitches/cheaters.

True; I just keep wondering how long GTA Online can hold up with all its patches, disabled/commented-out code (e.g. Armored Vans in free roam abandoned by the current devs, because the devs that wrote the original code 'left' along with Michael Benz, and it supposedly can't be fixed--not enough documentation), and a plethora of workarounds for things like constant car dupes, old code mixed with new code (Lowriders DLC), etc.

Even relatively simple, compact code (AmigaOS) needed a major rewrite (that it never got) simply because of technological changes. I can't imagine how complex an open world game has to be with hundreds of thousands of variables, special situations, platform differences, networking code, etc.

Coming up on five years now, the game code has got to be looking like a compounded character from all the horror movies you've ever seen.

My guess is that R* are already pushing the limits before they will HAVE to rewrite the game from scratch (if they're aren't already doing that). I doubt they're rewriting parts of it as they go--don't think that would work.

Actually more people are playing now than ever before because of DDH.

Are they though? I see less friends than ever playing (just my perspective). Maybe what Rockstar means is that more than ever logged in/out last December. Some players for a fair bit, others thought f*ck it and put fortnight back on?

It's actually irrelevant is GTA VI in development or no, this has nothing to do with supposed premium edition of GTA V. I thought that was clear enough from the leak, but somehow people tend to bring VI here.

There is a subforum to discuss next GTA and even if VI is in development, we haven't seen a single screenshot, single press release or anything. We have seen first V screens in 2012, 1 year from release date. We knew that V was a thing in 2010, in 2011 the location was known. There is NO information about VI now, not even a confirmation there is a development process going on. I'm not a mod and not in a position to say what you all can or can't do, but if you're getting your hopes up about VI, you better prepare to be disappointed.

Anyone who thinks GTA 6 is ever going to come out is foolish.

Rockstar has a new cash cow, it's called micro-transactions.

I believe they will soon only have 2 games: GTA Online and RedDead Online and they will continue to add content to them both until they are no longer playable.

Ok. I have read through all the comments, and there is much speculation on this being a "4k edition". 4k for what though? Clearly not the consoles. No way could a console handle a game that size rendered in 4k. Most of the textures in game are 1k, some 2k, and then 512 and even smaller - and that is for the PC. To that end, that only leaves the PC being an option, but why, when with DSR, we can modify resolution to 4k as it is anyhow?

If you guys didn't get duped, then a "premium edition" would have to include a LOT to justify people forking out another 60 bucks for it to even make sense for the publisher to release such a thing. Why couldn't they do this through a DLC like they have been doing all along anyways?

If it offers nothing but existing content, I really don't see it filling that void Raf. If it comes with something universally desired like a map expansion of course it would probably fill that void and then some... don't know, I'm thinking they would publicize the heck out of a new map or anything truly substantial.
