billiejoearmstrong8 5,416 Posted February 4 Share Posted February 4 (edited) Don't really get why they gave in and changed it later, racist characters are shown in all kinds of media (movies, tv, books), and it's not like it's the character you play as or a hero/good guy/role model character being racist, it's a pig-headed scumbag criminal. I guess games get held to a different standard for some reason, especially back then. Also, even though there obviously is some racism between the Cubans and Haitians in the game, when they say Haitians they are specifically referring to the "Haitian gang" who they're engaged in a gang war with rather than all Haitian people as a group. I suppose if they'd given the gang a name other than just "Haitians" it probably would've avoided a lot of the controversy.
