The Mysterious One
By "original," I mean the one with the black label and the not-so-friendly content towards Haitians. Are you glad you kept it? I will say that despite buying this game for the PS4, I still have the original PS2 version, which not only has the original content involving the Cuban/Haitian storyline, but also all of the songs, including "Running With The Night." Also, is this version rare? Not that I've been looking online for it because I don't need to, but it seems that I see at some local mom-and-pop game stores, I find the Greatest Hits version or the Double-Pack version of this game. What do you think?

Lock n' Stock
Proud owner of the original PS2 version here, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I could kind of understand the outrage regarding the Haitian/Cuban stuff. In the end though, you're dealing with a game where violence, sex, foul language and drugs are the norm anyway. Also shame about 'Running with the Night' being axed, one of my favourite songs on Flash FM personally. I guess one way to be sure you're getting the unedited PS2 version is to just look on eBay for a copy with the original box-art, which of course has none of that ugly Platinum/Greatest Hits sh*te plastered around it. Vanzant
GTA Vice City for PS2 the original release isn't rare nor difficult to find. It's practically worthless in terms to value due to it's insane amount of sales. A copy used even in near perfect condition is worth less than $10.00 and a sealed ORIGINAL copy can be a bit tough to find....but typically sells around $50-$60. I have my original copy with sales receipt which I have already posted pics around the board. I still prefer the Xbox version. mde2

Hmmm nice bike
Wait, they removed Umberto & Aunt Poulet missions from some versions? No, but some of Umberto's dialogue was changed because it was considered to be offensive against Haitians and there were complaints from Haitian American groups about it. Basically, according to the book Jacked by David Kushner, the controversey began after a local newscaster in New York noticed that the game ordered you to kill Haitians in one of the missions and he ran a story about it. Soon, the Haitian community complained and Rockstar made the changes to later versions released. I'm pretty sure dialogue in another mission was changed as well. I think part of the problem stemmed from them never giving these gangs names other than "Cubans" and "Haitians." It set things up to be pretty awkward later on in the game when you start doing their missions. Adrian51399
Does anyone have the very original version of Gta Vice City? What I mean is the PS2 version that has the Tear Gas and un-renamed guns. Ex) Ruger became Kruger, Uzi 9mm became Uzi, Colt Python became .357, PSGI got renamed to .308, etc etc. This video explains that I'm talking about. If anyone can help me find the very original version/pre-order version of Gta Vice City, that'd be awesome! If you happen to have one, I will gladly buy it off you. I know the PC and Xbox versions of Vice City are better than the PS2, but what makes the PS2 version special is 1) It was the first platform Gta Vice City got released on. 2) The very original/pre-order version of Gta Vice City on the PS2 has the features that were later removed when porting to the PC, Xbox, and later PS2 versions of the game. In some ways, the very first copy of Gta Vice City on the PS2 has "exclusive" stuff that the other versions don't have. I'm a big Vice City fan. It was my first Gta game ever. Again, if anyone can hook me up with the pre-order version/the original release for the PS2 with all the features I was talking about, I will be forever grateful!!! eljalu
Played the original version a long time ago when i was 9-10 At my best friends house he introduced me to the gta serie and i loved it. Got the original version back in 2012 from another friend who got rid of his ps2 and was extremely happy. sadly enough it was scratched (already was scratched when i got it take good care of my disc) and couldn’t get past the mission where you are in the speed boat with lance since it froze. then i got version 3.0 platinum version from my partents and couldn’t use my save anymore. by 2017 my best friend decided to give me the orginal firts release of vice city and gta 3 (both pal) and i was so happy i could finnaly walk trough the tear gas again XD Wolff

LostSoul 301281
It's been a few years since I was active here, and I have a quick question regarding original copies of both Vice City and GTA 3 What is the SLES number on original, V.1 versions of VC? I stupidly traded my day one copy years ago and have since managed to get hold of another, but I'm not sure if it is the newer, edited version or not. Printed on the disc, the SLES number of the copy I currently have is SLES-51061. On a similar note, I seem to have an original, V.1 copy of GTA 3, with SLES-50330 on the disc. Can anyone confirm if these are original, V.1 copies? I've tried having a look online, but I can't seem to find out 100%. GTA 3 seems to be original V.1, but I'm not 100% sure on VC. Thanks. LostSoul 301281
From the looks of things, that's just a breakdown of what's different. What I'm trying to find out, without having to play through the hole game(or both) is how to identify the games via the SLES numbers printed on the disc. These numbers identify when the game was produced and the version.

They give information about differences in the artwork and numbers printed on the disc that help identify the version. Edit: Just realized that you're looking for the SLES version, not the SLUS version. I think that guide only covers the SLUS numbers, so it may not be of much help to you. Based on this site, you're probably looking for either SLES-51061 or SLES-51316. These versions were released on 8 November 2002 and 21 November 2002 respectively. the -316 version appears to be English only, so that might've been the UK release. The other version listed (SLES-51595) was released in April 2003 so it is probably patched. LostSoul 301281
Thanks! That was the best I could find myself regarding SLES-51061. So it seems my copy of Vice City is an original release version. And as far as I can tell with GTA 3, that too may also be original release. thehambone

cmiller4642
Original PS2 versions are the best IMO as far as GTA 3, VC, and SA goes. 3 might be the only exception, but it just feels "right" to play those 3 GTA games on a PS2.

jm-9
I bought an NTSC black-label copy last year expecting v1.40. However, when I played it, it was clearly v2.01. I confirmed this by checking its version on my PC. So black label copies of v2.01 exist. It's not exclusive to the double-pack version. I like what SCEE did regarding game versions. The original version of Vice City (V1.50 in PAL regions) has a disc ID of SLES-51061. V2.01 has a disc ID of SLES-51061#, which is the same as the platinum release, SLES-51061-P. V3.00 has a disc ID of SLES-50161-P#. If v3.00 was a non-platinum release, it would have a disc ID of SLES-51061#2. This way, by looking at the disc ID printed on the disc, you can tell for the most part which version it is, with the only ambiguity being which version the first platinum version is.
