To be fair, many cross-gen titles that came out on the previous-gen consoles in the mid-2010s barely looked any different from the next-gen titles.

I honestly don't recall many cross-gen titles that came out a year and a half into the generation though? Often it was stuff like sports games and what not, not fully fledged AAA titles. That's more of a thing this gen due to publishers not wanting to abandon the giant install base of last-gen. I know it's not a particularly fair or a 1:1 comparison by any means but I mean Horizon 2 looks fantastic and that's crossgen. Like I know it's in dev but foliage and shadow pop-in and stuff like that on current gen hardware is a bit uhhhhhhhhhh. Streaming issues shouldn't really be much of a thing now.

Seriously, watching the footage again every street has maybe 1 or 2 cars on it max, you can probably count the amount of NPC's on the street you see total during the driving segments on 1 hand, there's very little in terms of clutter or detail on the sides of the road, outside buildings, under the bridges etc. The world looks devoid of life and the game is only four months away - though in fairness this build is probably a few months old already due to how press demos work.

But yea idk, maybe I'm being harsh or maybe I'm just jaded with cookie cutter open worlds but everything I've seen of the open world in terms of visuals and details is lacking by 2021 (or 2022) standards for me.

I'm becoming a little more sympathetic to this game a little more every time I see gameplay. I'm usually quite optimistic when it comes to games. The world, although I rolled by eyes at another California setting and the awful characters, the map looks intriguing to me. Graphics are a little cartoonish but as Jason mentioned the lighting is looking good in places. I mean, it's still goofy as f*ck. I never really like the art-direction of Saints Row games. I think all the character models always looked pathetically corny but I'll certainly pick this up just to f*ck around in the open world and see what there is to do.

I'm still sticking to my original assessment that even despite the initial backlash people will come around to this game and enjoy it.

That video is much, much more like it. Liking what I saw there for sure.

I like what they've shown off in the trailer. Seems like taking over gang turfs is gonna be done in a similar way to Saints Row: The Third - by buying property and doing various activities. Though, I have a feeling some story missions are gonna take over some of Santo Ileso's turfs as well.

I hope Let's Pretend can be used as an actual clothing store in this game and not just as a front for pulling off heists.

Fingers crossed they'll make a seperate trailer for the character customization, featuring all 8 of the boss voices as narrators.

wait where did you see shop interiors for the new SR game?

There's a tiny snippet (literally 2 seconds!) in one of the early preview videos (skip to 2:54 if if the timestamp doesn't work):

Looks comparable to something like Suburban in GTAV in terms of detail - albeit with a lot more cowboy boots... 🤠

When the first trailer came out, I was hopeful the game would be like 2 and 3, was a bit upset at the CGI but that's DS not Volition's fault.

Then the info dump came out and I got a bit more excited

and now?

I can't wait for this game, Saints Row is actually back to its roots of violent criminals vs criminals.

Also the car combat is gonna make escort less of a pain in the ass like it was in 2 and 3

The premise of this game SUCKS. The characters aren't very enthralling. But despite this, I still have hope for Volition to make a true successor to Saints Row 2, which in itself was a true successor to San Andreas.

Hell yeah, f*cking sick of this CW reject of a Boss. I wanna see what the other voices are

Do you have a guess how large the map will be compared to GTA V?

Big enough.

A tiny bit smaller than GTA V's map, but still big enough.

That would be more than I expected, I'm really looking forward to it.

Unrelated to the reboot but man, the courtroom scene in sr2 is still one of the most iconic cutscenes in crime media. Every line in this scene is extremely quotable

one thing i LOVED about this game was being able to re-watch the cutscenes and you would be in your current clothing....so many good cutscenes in saints row 2....plus the zombie game was a great touch

also just came to see if there is any new news, leaks or videos for this...

Well, I come back and see the uproar has died down, lol.

Truth be told, I haven't really followed Saints Row too much after the initial onslaught; I've heard good things about the gameplay and customization though, I might catch myself up and see what's going on.

According to this Game Informer article, instead of pixelation, you can put different nudity censors and prosthetic body parts.

Here's hoping that Volition will release a character customization showcase trailer soon.

They've not nailed it in every sense, there's still question marks over the gang, the characters and their origins but their initial marketing was very poor. Gameplay stuff they've shown since, the open world, activities, etc all look like classic Saints Row in a good way, and the tidbits we've got regarding customisation so far are very promising.

I'm a lot more hopeful my self after the recent stuff they've shown after being very very skeptical at the initial reveal. Not that I'll be playing it at launch cause no Steam at launch on PC 😕

I see, I'll keep an eye on it, at least.

I'm still skeptical about the premise though. There was the comparison to Watch Dogs 2, but Wrench was the star of the other characters, and Sitara did the "empowered woman" trope extremely well. I feel like this game is going to be pure cringe despite being technically fun.

The gameplay looks fun but why on earth do the characters look like hipsters & nerds? Not at all like gangsters. Compare them with the characters from the other games and they seem like jokes.

Very off putting

id even rather have an emo rapper, a goth girl and a greaser instead of those 3 "supporters". about the boss, well, better look like claude

This thread got me playing saint row 2 again on Playstation "Now" and i am loving it,.....(its ben literally YEARS since I last played this...)

there are also a two new animations i just found.......there are two samurai sword final blow animations i knew about....(the third landing strike with a samurai sword attack) there was the R2 triple tap one where your character cut through the enemy's chin and mouth.... (pictures to follow later) and the L2 triple tap one where your character stabbed through the enemy's chest,

BUT if you spam both L2 and R2 and land a triple hit with the samurai sword (triple hit because some enemies die with one or two attacks....pimps or mission enemies are best for this) THEN your character will do a sweet chin music kick to the enemy's chest OR do an alternate stab through the chest.....

I don't know if this is common knowledge but its something I just found while revisiting SR2....

well the general point is i LOVE this game just for all the small and big neat features it has....

now I have to realistically temper my hype because it could never be SR2, THIS is SR2! and I am playing it now and enjoying it, I just hope to enjoy the new one too whatever it may be....and also they should take notes lol

Actually the sword finishers are from holding the attack putting then pressing the attack button and depending on the trigger combinations from holding then pressing it, you can do 4 different finishers

That does look cool, I can't lie.

But man, the shooting feels so weightless. I can't quite describe it but the impact just doesn't feel there at all. I think games like GTA IV and RDR 2 may have spoiled us a bit much.

Nah look at Far Cry 2 or even Crackdown 1, The shooting and impact was much better.

I was hoping this could outsell the de trilogy mess but sadly it looks like saints row will always be overshadowed by gta, if only volition had the og sr1 source code, they and/or sperasoft would have done a better job remastering it than gsg/any r* studio with trilogy, despite the wokeness or whatever now i actually trust volition more than r*

Honestly, this is where I'm at though I came to this realization earlier when C* allowed T2 to target mods and sue modders. Unlike C*, Volition actually does love modders and they even hire them.

Love IdolNinja. used to help me with stuff back when SR3 released and gave lot of feedback on his sandbox mods.

I really hope they do something for him with the new game.

Weird thing is, if Volition is more modder-friendly than c* then how come we can't add new cars in saints row games while we could do that in almost every gta?
