Random NPC plane flying?

So I was flying my hydra top left of the map (I know no location names). It was above and to the left of the mountain north of Fort zancudo. Then some plane (mallard or Mammatus?) comes from the river area near that mountain and heads north (similar to the military jet that spawns). I shot it down and 60 seconds later another one spawned doing the same thing.

Logically I would say it was an ammo drop. But there were absolutely no players in blaine county. I'm aware of npc planes very occasionally taking off and landing at airfields and airports, but not just flying around?

Ammo drops are by Cuban 800s, same as when a Bunker gets resupplied.

Yeah random npc planes will spawn, but not often.

Just like how a Swift or Unarmed Buzzard will spawn around the city...however usually it's just black/red/orange Froggers.

It sounds like you just hit a spawn time for a random NPC plane to appear in that area.

Also it sometimes has something to do with looking in a certain direction, to simply cause an npc aircraft to spawn.

That well known Dew Yellow "Lifeguard" Frogger can almost always be spawned at the beaches with that trick, but otherwise is rare.

The random in-flight npc aircraft that were removed from Online/yet in Story Mode are the high altitude jets & large planes.

They do appear every now and again, but nobody's been bothered enough to go looking for a pattern as of yet. You get Dusters flying around Grapeseed and the vineyard too. For some reason there were Ripleys and Airtugs (and a Shamal) all over the airport yesterday as well.

That's an interesting idea, using the map of LS to area-out the active in-flight spawns of npc aircraft.

Sometimes I'll request my Shamal to get NPC and other parked Shamals to spawn at LSIA. The airport becomes a bit more lively thanks to an NPC Shamal landing at the runway closest to the beach. Not sure if there are any other Shamals flying in the sky though after spawning them.

I saw a buzzard flying the other day too. Interesting that the swift would also be seen sometimes, that's a dlc vehicle so would have been added later. An unusual change to make.

I've seen several times some planes flying over Alamo sea, might be those whywontlisten mentionned. Every time I was delivering cocaine with a Dodo, not sure if its coincidental.

The Unarmed Buzzard is considered an LSPD helicopter when it spawns in-flight, you can tell when you are near it & acquire a wanted level by any means.

Oddly enough I've never had one chase me when possessing a wanted level, however it will "alert" other police forces if I fly within it's vision area.

The Swift generally spawns flying overhead/around the NOOSE headquarters & will fly towards the city, it's not LSPD tied.

It must've been a "next gen" feature for the game when released for X1 & PS4, since the Swift was a DLC back on old gen consoles.

Likely just an upgrade to npc activity, along with the general increase in ground traffic for the enhanced version of the game.

You can often see a Police Maverick or unarmed Buzzard flying up the LS river. On last gen I once had an unarmed Buzzard as the chase helicopter in the Thelma & Louise scene.
