Does anyone know why were old events removed from the game?

Okay i get the armored trucks money glitches, but they could've patched it, im not a freeroam warrior im just curious why were they removed when freemode events came.

My understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that old, and poorly or undocumented code written by an original dev team member that's no longer at Rockstar is to blame (*ahem*), and no-one knows how to correct or change that code without causing other bugs.

It's a similar situation to what happened with Bikers(?) Lowriders(?); apparently written long before much of GTA Online's other code was changed/patched/updated, and when the old references/variables couldn't connect with the new, you have an onslaught of bugs that you can't fix.

Which is understandable; but there's no reason why Rockstar can't write NEW, improved code adding those items back into the game.

Simply disable the old code by commenting it out (likely already done) and add in the new; test for quality, fix bugs, release. Piece of cake.

Along with crate drops, those Armored Cars are IMO one of the best parts of GTA Online game play.

Are we still talking about the same video game developer?

Isn’t it amazing that with all their money R* still couldnt hire decent programmers? Man, they are stingy and greedy as sh*t.

Yellow Dog with Cone

I always wondered why R* didn't even bother to remake the old events with the same format as Freemode Events.

But I guess that would make too much sense.

GTA V might be the greatest achievement in the history of videogame programming. Can you imagine what the GTA V codebase must look like? Can you imagine what the design documents must look like? Can you imagine the QA processes they have to go through? It blows my mind just thinking about it.

If you can release a product in one of the most competitive and fast moving industries in the world, and the competition still hasn't come anywhere near you seven years later, you're doing something right, that's for f*cking sure.

He's talking about the 'base game', AKA single player.

The Online experience is nothing special, and indeed a bugfest

Main reason is that they released Freemode Events, i guess. Dispite that i like new events, robbing the collector cars was just great. Gosh, i just've wrote about robbing collectors and now i want it back hard.

It's also plausible that C* felt that the freemode activities were too cluttered with the current events/challenges. Many also had been redone with businesses. Armored trucks in GR supply mission and a variant in crates. Those event/bonus chests are now crates. Yada

Could also be they'd be unbalanced as f*ck because of how many asshats don't leave their jets and would f*ck up the minimal sportsmanship those would bring. (As if there's sportsmanship in PvP games anymore, period)

Or as others said... because the entropy within the code

Compared to every other big open world game, GTA V has been a paragon. I love the Witcher 3 (best game this gen IMHO) but it was buggy as hell for ages. Let's not get started on the Assassin's Creed games, Mafia 3, Watch Dogs, etc. And none of those games come within a country mile of GTA V when it comes to complexity.

Rockstar has had a very cynical approach since Shark Cards became a thing, regularly spewing forth adversary modes to die has been mind boggling, and the way they pursued matchmaking has been frankly brain dead in my opinion. But on the tech side of things they've shown the rest of the industry a clean pair of heels in my opinion.

They've not removed it - they do still turn up every now and then, but very, very, very, very, very rarely. I suspect it's all just become more and more broken over time, and the newer events take priority so older events sit in the corner and cry.

Maybe cargo hunting is supposed to substitute for the old freemode events? Either way, I wish they added fun freemode events, it would change the game, instead of challenges like seeing who can reverse a f*cking car the longest

The codebase looks like a massive ball of spaghetti, and pulling on one strand breaks at least 20 other things that shouldn't even be connected.

That's the norm for massive open world games though. There's a perfectly good reason why sh*t breaks in an unforeseeable way with all of these big open world games, and it's because the extreme complexity of the codebase makes it difficult for humans to fully predict the effects of their changes. The idea that they prefer to avoid messing with existing code is as much down to reducing QA/troubleshooting workload as it is anything else.

It's weird that you call me a fanboy right after I said that I didn't even think GTA V was the best open world game this gen :) On the tech side it's just about giving credit where credit is due. I don't think tech has traditionally been Rockstar's claim to fame (more design), but with GTA V they certainly raised the bar on that front.

They can't handle old code and make it work like the new ones without causing lots of bugs.

"Armored Trucks" event was already removed from the scripts.

IMO, Special Crate drops and Armored Car/Van robberies have arguably never caused "clutter" or spoiled things for newer content, anymore than convenience store robberies or gang attacks do--both ancient, both fun, and both still in the game.

Call me a nut job, but I'm willing to bet the real reason why R* hasn't added them back into the game is likely whose idea they were... The Benz, or someone in his close circle that current R* management didn't/doesn't like.

I realize not all players want them back, but still plenty would love to see at least those two things back in the game.

Spontaneity and wide variety in free roam are one of its biggest draws in terms of appealing game play.

I give the original Rockstar devs/management credit for the fact that the game is still a success today--they built an impressive world for a very hardware-limited platform.

Hopefully much has been learned since then; we'll see just how much actually was when RDR2 releases.

Fun 2 provided the reason. It is as simple as "old code" (however may well have something to do with "old dev" too).

Shame since I enjoyed chasing down NPC planes for $35k a pop every 5 minutes.

^^ Absolutely; but old code that--for some reason--they don't want to rewrite and add back into the game.

I miss the Smuggler Planes/Helicopters event too. :( Only got up to $18k on those...

I'd like to believe they've got bigger plans in mind for freemode events, adjusted to the current meta.

Perhaps those of us who are fans of the old events need to hire The Hunter to lobby for us? :)

You have to admit the guy is a regular Churchill when it comes to something he feels the game needs! :) Respect.

I really miss those planes and helicopters, granted it would be way too easy to bring them down now that everyone can summon buzzards at their feet or fire explosive rounds from a sniper, or just fly off in a Deluxo or Oppressor, but I remember I'd drop everything when one of those showed up, getting 30k (iirc) for sniping down a plane was great. I also really miss being able to rob armored cars.

They were removed so early on, those cars, crate drops, smuggler planes, I never got to see one because of how low level I was at the time. I was running away in fear lol

But instead you can hunt retards flying bikes, so I'd say everything isn't so negative.

They ought to bring back the ones there are awards for to be honest. It's slightly annoying that I can't get every platinum because they removed some that I hadn't been religiously trying to grind when they were only there for a short time. How hard could it be to re-code such simple events?

Oh I agree I'd love them back but you misread me. I meant unbalanced because they would be trashed in a Charlie foxtrot with all our weaponized and freeroam org imbalance. C* also must have wrote them off with the rehashed in the businesses.
