But on the other hand, I don't know. The lack of a Jack-specific storyline set before his revenge bugs me, especially after experiencing RDR2's more thorough epilogue. We only get to see the last moments of his revenge quest and nothing before that, how his life has been, what he's been up to before searching for Ross, if he's met people and made friends/enemies, what kind of a personality he has (judging by the way he shouts at his horse, he seems rather angry) — stuff that I personally would've liked to see just to make the epilogue feel a tad more complete and less jarring.

Oh I agree absolutely, I would've loved a more fleshed out story for post 1911 jack, but I think it's pretty likely he spent those three years doing very little but training to face ross, and I think it's heartbreaking he most likely waited for Abigail to pass away before he carries out his revenge, he clearly has no interest in the ranch, and in my opinion probably adapts a drifter lifestyle as I just don't see him returning to beechers hope very often. But yes I think the immediate three year jump to jack could've been expanded more, like for example I was playing poker as jack the other day and I thought, wait a minute? Who even taught jack how to play poker?! I'd like to uncle or John did between 1907-1911, or like you Said making friends/enemies, did he ever visit McFarlanes ranch? Did he tell bonnie what had happened? So many questions left unanswered.

yea for sure. i remember reading a theory that after john died. sadie came to the ranch to teach jack all the stuff he would need to be a protagonist. how to be a better shot and all that. now that could be a cool story. but unfortunately sadie wasn't created until after rdr1. i would have liked to see all the former gang members reactions to johns fate. no doubt sadie and charles would be pissed. maybe they offered to go with jack on his quest. but he declined wanting to avenge his father alone.

 

i also wished we could have seen what happened with abigail. maybe seeing jack follow johns footsteps may have caused abigail to be depressed and kill herself. we saw how much pain she was in when john went after micah. it's very likely that abigail couldn't take that anymore. losing her husband was bad enough. but to have a son go for revenge would no doubt be hard on her. it would have been nice to have a small epilogue seeing what leads up to jacks journey to ross. maybe in a rdr1 remake someday.

I remember a theory before rdr2 released was that she may have died of tuberculosis or another disease.

yea that's the problem. we have all these theories. but nothing for sure. although i wonder how someone came to the conclusion that she had tb. i don't remember her coughing.

I seem to remember someone saying she would cough around the ranch alot, but it's most likely just idle animations because she never coughs or shows any health problems in any of the cutscenes.

yea we all cough sometimes every now and then. unless it was specifically shown in cutscenes that she was coughing and having problems. i wouldn't think that her coughing is a sign of anything serious. although speaking of unresolved stuff. i found it odd that we never got to know what happened to johns daughter. it seemed obvious that it would be addressed in rdr2.

I thought it was hinted at  in the epilogue that abigail is pregnant or at least trying for a baby, as she's seen knitting some baby clothes in an interaction, it's possible she had a stillborn or miscarriage between 1907-1911.  Perhaps they lost her while up in the Yukon between 1899-1907.
