Can't Save?

Same thing is happening with GTA VC. Both games are the original discs, version 1.0. The only way I've changed the game is by using ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix, and Silent's SilentPatch.

OS: Windows 10

GPU: GeForce GTX 1070

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600X

Memory: 16GB DDR4

If you use 1.0 exe - use silentpatch

Sounds like issue with obaiting path to documents. No way of fixing this wihtout using mods. (Or maybe creating new windows account without using email adress, or using special symbols. But i dont know if that works). Also compatibility mod or running as admin could work.

Sorry, I kinda missed the part where you mentioned SilentPatch. Well if I remember corectly there was a script that fixed an issue with finding gta 3 user files

Maybe patch 1.1 can help you https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200147116(if you dont want to use mods)

Or if you want mod, but only to "fix" this issue, you could use portable gta mod by the hero, which would move your save directory to root of your gta 3 installation
http://aap.papnet.eu/gta/workshop/portablegta.dll
(needs asi loader, and dll must be renamed to asi)

What version do you have?

Have you tried running as admin?

And whats wrong with using silentpatch, as it fixes few more compatibility issues.

Oh i read it wrong with the WS fix and Silentpatch.

Anyway, check documents if you have some save folder already there.

Do you have local windows account, or microsoft account (aka you are using email adress)

Try renanimg or removing that folder and then saving.

Also i am not sure if the mods (SilentPatch especially) works on the original exe. Or do you have nocd exe? if not try googling it, or send me a pm, i will send it to ya.

I deleted the set. file out of the User Files, but that didn't help.+

Of course it does! And it's not really a mod, it's more life a 'fix'.

do you have nocd exe?

Yes.

I tried with SilentPatch, and without WS Fix, I tried with WS Fix and without Silent, I tried without either, and I tried again with both. I renamed the User Files folder, I moved it around, made a new one, but still nothing.

Nothing is working.

As far as I rember just installing cleo (even without using cleo scripts) it fixes some issues related to the file system. Also have you tried running in compatibility mode? Windows 10 can be pain in the a** for some old games

I doubt Cleo would work, and I tried a couple Compatibility settings, but it still didn't work.

Looks like I may just have to re-install the game.

You mean... You didn't do that yet? :D Do it, it's not like re-installing an OS after all.

I re-installed both III and VC, but guess what, they STILL don't work.

I honestly have no idea what the hell is going on here.

In my case, it was all down to OneDrive sync. GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas store the save files in C:\User\<user name>\Documents\, and Windows 10 tries to sync the folder up to the OneDrive cloud, which prevent the game from saving. The solution is to stop backing up your Documents folder.

1) Right click OneDrive tray icon.
2) Click Settings.
3) Click Backup tab.
4) Click Manage backup button.
5) Click Stop Documents backup.

An alternative way is to set Compatibility to "Windows 98 / Windows Me", so that the game can save the files in C:\Users\Public\Documents\ instead of C:\User\<user name>\Documents\.

1) Right click on gta3.exe in File Explorer.
2) Click Compatibility tab.
3) Select Windows 98 / Windows Me for Compatibility mode.
4) Click OK.
