Can you guys give me any tips on combat in free roam? Like whats the best combat helmet and best gun to use? I be getting drilled in free roam my health disappears in 2.5 seconds. Does the mkII give that much of a advantage in terms of combat?

Act as edgy as possible and abuse game mechanics.

MKII variants are generally better than their standard models.

Bulletproof helmets will protect you from headshots.

Use BST if you have to.

You're only safe from the Orbital Cannon when in Passive Mode - don't bother running.

All in all, there are loads of approaches when it comes to freemode. Some prefer ground, some prefer air, some prefer explosives and some prefer dancing. Its what you find suits you best :)

Don't ever let an opponent get a kill, each hit you take explode that sticky placed in your feet previously, always have the interaction menu opened for the EWO and message them with mad Llllllz

you're a total tool if you use this advice

Git Gud or Die Crying.

Seriously though, slight flick up when you are locked on and pop them in the face/head. 2.5seconds is an eternity in a gunfight, you should be dropping them with quick headshots.

except hiding in MOC or avenger, where destruction of vehicle will safely teleport you outside

Combat advice? Don't fight. Simple.

Yeah, sure, shoot a guy every once in a while. Maybe even twice. But on foot, don't get into a war. It's the stupidest, most self-destructive thing you can do in GTA. Ammo costs money. The time you spend shooting at people could be used more productively, or more enjoyably.

If you want to fight, do it, but like... don't expect to win. Nobody wins in those. You're never left feeling good at the end. Vehicles change things, but on foot it's never something fun. If you need to kill, the assault shotgun is your friend. If you're too far for that to be effective, just run.

Before this you'd better try deathmatches, after you understand and see enough, try everything, then you could move to free roam. This because most of free roam fighters mostly experienced pvp players. No one help and no rules, all is up to you.

About MKII guns, for sure, this was the general purpose of them been made - upgrade.

I have an advice; dont take it too seriously. Dont use a bunch of cheap tricks to win (BP helmets, BST, armored weaponized vehicles etc).

No one likes a tryhard.

My advice? Get a Heavy Revolver, practice headshots.

I see a military looking rebreather wearing tryhard I immediately think hes compensating for something. Nothing cool about such a player.

Now if Id see a low level wearing no body armor but a hawaiian t-shirt and cargo shorts + flipflops, pulling off headshots - thatd earn my respect.

Just my two cents... theres no use in winning if thats all you care about.

I'm also looking for some good advice guys. Mostly about pvp on the ground in freemode, like the combat roll, now I know about having to roll second and I should never roll first but what are some other tricks I could be doing with it, techniques etc. i seen a lot guys get away with rolling first usually when I'm turning the corner to aim. And I know all the basics when it comes to sniping, but I don't really understand drag scoping all that much so Id like you guys's input on that too. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, you missed important Info, like your level?

Beyond that, DO NOT think you need to become tryhard trash, because you don't. That means, DONT...EWO, NO...blowing yourself up, NO abusing passive, NO killing from under the map or wall breaches.

I don't do any of those things & the only time people get one over on me, is if they get a sneak kill and then leave the session or go passive until I do.

I don't use any helmet, I rarely ever use armor in free roam, I spend most of my time in FR driving a sports or classic car, or on a bike. Although if I'm flying in a populated session, these days its usually in something with flares or chaff.

Practice the basics, driving, flying, etc.

Beyond that, the best tip you can get is this....don't take it so seriously!!! If you get mad, you don't think, you just react impulsively. Most players in gtao don't think, they have no patience, they do get angry, this makes them predictable.

Try to wait until your enemy combat rolls before you do. Generally the guy who rolls last wins.

Usually I would recommend taking cover, but people spam explosives and they go through walls, so yeah...

Right weapon for the job. Some weapons have longer range than others.

BP helmet will help you survive a few headshots, take it or leave it.

  • Manually Reload before engaging.

Combat Roll (People tend to complain about this, well that is because they don't do it and end up dying).

Try and keep your distance. Snipers are very popular, so running in guns blazing in most cases isn't the best choice.

Keep your eye on the radar as much as possible, it's man's best friend after dogs.

Start/Join a CEO. chances are 9/10 people who tend to combat are in a CEO, because of it's perks. Playing fair is the last thing GTA Online combat players care about.

Most importantly, Don't take it too seriously. You may lose your hair.

Go passive.

Wait for them to ignore you, or just not paying attention.

Out of passive.

Shoot them with an RPG.

Run away or accept a heist/job invite.

Or

Call up Lamar

Send mugger

Go passive

Wait for mugger

Leave passive just as mugger is approaching

Shoot them while they are down

Kill mugger and pick up the $10k

Back in passive

Run away

Or

Sticky at feet

Snipe with the sh*tty pew pew pew gun until you kill them

If you take a hit, blow up sticky

Repeat

Nobody fights fair in GTA, or at least very few do. There is no point in engaging when someone is abusing the game's mechanics and features such as Passive, EWO, BST and accepting invites etc. you may as well go passive and find a job that will earn you money or find new session.

Assisted aim - Take holo sight for Marksman MKII and just waste everything on your way.

Free aim - Minigun, heavy/marksman snipers if minigun is out of range

I guess everyone here is told you about EWO, BST and Ghost Org.

Ok, here is my tip:

1) ALT+F4 => Enter

2) Steam Store

3) Player Unknown's Battlegrounds

4) Purchase

As for GTA and it's pathetic excuse for PvP, don't expect to get any fun from the process. Practice evading the combat first.

However, sometimes you are in the mood to punish some GTA freeroam scum.

Before this you'd better try deathmatches

I second the deathmatches. They are very helpful for newbies. There are lot of custom ones (including vehicle deathmatches), so you can practice shooting, driving military vehicles and dogfighting without spending any money in the process.

If you are using freeaim, practice shooting from first person. Use the crosshair, not sights.

the best combat helmet

The one with thermal vision (4 lenses, I believe?). It's bulletproof and a must-have if you want to be "competitive" in freeroam. All tryhards are already using it, no exceptions.

best gun

That depends, but if you want to engage the opponent right after respawning in freeroam, Marksman Rifle fits this distance. MK2 variant is much better.

AP Pistol is very good all-arounder for newbie (if you don't have money), you can use it in vehicles and you can use it on foot.

Practice delivering headshots.

I be getting drilled in free roam my health disappears in 2.5 seconds

Some players are using Bullshark testosterone (if they are registered as CEO/VIP). This gives a huge advantage.

Nobody fights fair in GTA, or at least very few do

Nobody fights fair in any game, in any environment, since "war is art of deceit". Always was, always will be.

You are trying to trick the enemy if possible, to find his weakness and use it to your advantage. The problem with GTA is that it's unbalanced as hell and full of cheap mechanics to be exploited.

Who is starting the fight?

If you need to retaliate against someone who sneak attached you, learn to use the heavy sniper as you will respawn at distance. If you start the fights then frankly it's your own fault if someone opens a can of whoop-a55 back at you.

Little advice about cover. You can do it two ways,

One is loose one, when you using in cover game mechanics. This only help you to get noob kills, most of people will throw rpg at you or took their chance to change position. This cover is predictable and limits your movement.

Second is not actually sticking in cover, but use environment at any way, while aiming you can hide yourself behind a street light post at proper time and evade head shot. You can make your way through sniper fire to close combat not being hit or even noticed in a scope to change a fight from ranged to melee. Sometimes being slightly over wall is enough, rather than stick to this wall without any chance to shoot back.

Also wonder why so many people dislikes tryhards, when actually giving that model to the newcomer. Blame yourselves then, later.

So many useless replies to a fair question. If you hate pvp so much why not pick another thread to drop some third rate comedy....

To the OP:

-Make sure you are set to Full Auto aim in your game settings... by default it is set to partial and you will always be at a disadvantage.

-If you are losing every encounter at close quarters with a particular player they are likely using BST so keep a greater distance from them.

-Always use the expanded radar option so you see players (especially jets) coming and have time to get to cover.

-If you don't have the thermal scope on your sniper rifle you will also be at a disadvantage...

-You don't need to wear the typical try hard outfit but be sure to wear muted colors.

More generally, try to learn from your opponents instead of getting mad at them. If they fight in a way you find dishonest just don't play with them, although if you set your standard of fair play too high in this game you will have no one left to play with.

Nope!.

Not everyone's a bad sport bub. Many crews/groups play in so many ways, and none of these weak excuses for PvP will be present at all.

Glorious, it is.

if you see any instance of lag immediately shut down, trying to pvp against laggers will lead to early onset rage induced murder suicide

Kill or get killed 2 or 3 times...

Move on to something more fun

Switching session might help

Some sessions are really toxic

please dont use bulletproof helmets, just aim for the head always, once you master that you'll kill people with just a bullet of an ak.

Using bulletproof helmets, BST and other sh*t just makes you look like a tryhard and you have no skill.

Play missions shoot people in the head trust me there's no difference between NPCs and players

Seriously though, it's very much dependent on lag - your lag, their lag. There are some players in some sessions who are just invincible to my bullets yet my crew mates have no problems with them. There are clearly some players who just suck in my bullets too and can't hit me for sh*t.

GTA Online really isn't the place for any kind of competitive PvP. There's a reason no MLG leagues etc. exist for GTA:O.

Also your TV graphics settings can make all the difference. Got myself a nice 55" 4K HDR looks great but noticed I was getting killed far more in multiplayer games like GTA & Call of Duty I mean it was getting ridiculous just couldn't seem to win a shootout players would seemingly pop up out of nowhere or my bullets just bounced off them. Thought it was just me not used to a big TV then noticed when watching a kill cam something was off as I was not even shooting in the right direction yet from my point of view I was right on target. Took the advice on AVfourms & turned off all the fancy graphic settings & suddenly I was back to winning again.
