  • Vice City - my favorite 3D era GTA. It has every bit that makes GTA great. Brilliant setting, a cool and vibrant atmosphere, a cliche'd, yet incredibly entertaining story, the awesome hit soundtrack, and a memorable protagonist with Tommy Vercetti.

Vice City Stories - I find VCS having almost every ingredient that makes VC so great, but I find the story weak and unmemorable. It has the best combat of the 3D era though.

III - Even though is feels very dated, III has a unique feel to it that other 3D era GTA's do not have. It has that cold and desolate aura that still remains a special portion that makes III a very prominent GTA to me.

San Andreas - Not a huge fan at all, but I do enjoy the vastness of the map and the sheer amount of content. The three different cities really add up to the character of San Andreas.

Liberty City Stories - I do like this game, but it really wasn't that memorable and it never really grabbed my attention.

Advance - I had a GBA when I was young, but never really knew about it until recently. I'd like to get my hands on it, but I don't have a GBA anymore and a cartridge is incredibly rare.

1. SA - I don't think any game before or even after surprised me (in a positive way) as much as this game

2. III - Got it after VC & SA. Best protag, atmosphere and MSX FM. Spent a lot of time on it

3. VC - My first GTA experience ever, due to a friend's recommendation and I absolutely loved it

4. LCS - Sole reason why I even got a PSP, I could finally play portable GTA and the game saved me from a lot of dead or boring times

5. VCS - At this point I guess I was getting tired of GTA so this is the only game I completely once or twice and hardly ever touched it again

By what merit...?

I'm glad he clarified, because I too was confused!

I'd rate them as such:

- GTA SA - great story, funny well-written likable characters, amazing map, great choice of music and much much more. There's hardly anything I can fault in the game.

- GTA III - very close to SA, but rated second due to the smaller map, fewer missions and fewer abilities. Still an amazing most realistic game with the best radio in the series,

- GTA VC - small map, the protagonist is a right twat. Good selection of hard missions, good music - but far below the other two overall.

- GTA LCS - played a few missions on a phone, yet to play it on PS2. Feels a bit like a mod someone made for III, the weather is just wrong, but not enough play time to judge.

- GTA VCS - haven't played it enough to form an opinion yet.

Didn't finish the stories games. 3 LCS didn't feel like high enough quality in terms of missions, story or content to compare to 3.

1. GTA SA (obviously my most favorite game in the series)

2. GTA Vice City (really an absolute precious game)

3. GTA LCS (thought it was only for PS2 and PSP at that time, I managed to play it and the storyline was really good and interesting IMO)

4. GTA 3 (my first GTA from 2007, I must say that I still own the DVD of this game and it's a really really good game! The First GTA 3D game with really tough missions at the end)

5. GTA VCS (it's a good game but I felt that the story could've gotten better during the ending phase of storyline. Regardless, a good game!)

1) Vice City: The quintessential king of the 3D era. It also has the added benefit of taking place in my birth year making it that extra bit special. R* were on form in 2002.

2) GTA III: Despite lacking mechanics that later games introduced I still love the game for its dark and brooding atmosphere and the feeling playing that game for the first time was simply incredible.

Below this is when I felt the 3D era started going down hill...

3) VCS: Couldn't get into Vic as I found him dry and stale, but I loved the empire building.

4) LCS: Lost the hard edge of GTA III and Toni was nothing special, but if I think of this game how it was originally designed for a handheld console then it's quite an impressive feat.

5) San Andreas: Without unfairly targeting GTAA this is the worst 3D era game for me. Terrible and inconsistent protagonist, lots of unnecessary filler content (Basically too much quantity and not enough quality), over reliance on A grade celebrities for voice work more than GTA III and Vice City. The only thing that's good is the map layout.

1. San Andreas - Hands down the best. The map was huge, multiple cities, a countryside to go off roading in, and gang territories to conquer. There was just so much to do and I loved every bit of it.

2. GTA III - This would be #1 if not for SA but it was a very well done game, it was such a refreshing take on GTA after the top down games. Staunton Island was my favorite of the three islands.

3. Vice City - Great soundtrack and protagonist, but the map really hurt this game for me. Wasn't much bigger than LC and didn't care much for exploring it.

4. LCS - Like a diet GTA III, still haven't completed it though.

5. VCS - Garage eating car glitch is ridiculous in this game. Killed it for me.
