I havent spent a lot of time online so far into 18, just been busy, and wanted to play some of my other games that are collecting dust, I did get about four hours Saturday night in, so I hope to be back it at soon.

my man fw always coming up with nice threads... here is my contribution.

2013

day 1 player here, at the time i worked overnight shift, so i got all day to play and do my thing, i was clocking on average 7-8hours everyday.

2014

as updates and content was added my interest in the game grew bigger, but with 9 badsport stints on this year, 99% of the time i was confined to a empty lobby, i say my average when down to probably 5-6 hours a day.

2015

sh*t got real, with the release of heist and the elite challenges my gtaing kicked into high gear, i was easily dropping 9-10hours every single day.

2016

couple houndred heist later and with cmm and elite challenges under my belt, things slowed down a bit this year, still i was clocking atleast 6 hours.

2017

my lowest point in gtao, tired of the business type of updates and completely put off by gunrunning, i took a break from the game, i came back in september for smuggle run did a few runs and i felt like i was getting the groove of the game again... then 2 cat 5 hurricanes came and destroyed my location, left me without electricity for over 3 months.

2018

with my electricity restored 3 weeks ago, with the help of a cheap ass hotspot device, just last week i managed to log into gtao for the first time in 4 months. im playing catch up with all the content added, trying to no go broke buying all the cool content added.

i feel like this forced time off, along with the new heist and all the cool content and challenges that came with doomsday update, i think it would ensure my stay in los santos for a few more years.

No Use For A Name

Nowadays? I play maybe 45 minutes to an hour a night. It shows Im online from after work-bedtime because I always sit afk. Thats basically what this game has become for me.

Zee Gate Keepa

I bought the game on September 27, 2013, but didn't really play online until 2015, which is when I did the first bulk of progress on my main character. I stopped playing until the summer of 2016, when I bought a PS4. Played pretty regularly until late July of 2017 when I stopped completely until right before Christmas.

Currently, I play about 3 times a week for a few hours casually.

Some interesting responses here for sure. Thanks all for sharing.

I started playing GTA in 2017. Played SP for the first few months then moved to GTAO when we got faster interwebs. I'm still in the "think about it at work" phase. I never experienced the legacy GTA (before the weaponized vehicles and other sh!t I hear old timers complaining about (no offense intended, but it's true, us old bastids are hard to please)) so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I wrecked a motorcycle in August and was on disability for a few months so I played a lot then, got up to 100+ fairly quickly. Now I'm making enough that I can buy the things I want (Deluxo, Akula) instead of just the things I need (Nightshark, Buzzard) but I'm starting to get burned out on the free-mode-free-for-all and spend most of my time in NAT'd servers (XB1) grinding stacks of e-paper.

Lately I've been exploiting the bunker AFK thing. I'll set it up to run before I go to work and let it run out. It usually shuts down the Xbox after a few hours so it doesn't just cost me fees the whole day. Then I'll play for an hour or 3 after work then re-supply and let it run again. It's the least R* can do for me considering all the bullsh!t (un)logic they have in their code.

My love in gaming is for shooters and driving games and GTA fills both those desires, albeit not great at either. My biggest problem with GTA is the console controller. I'm a die-hard mouse/keyboard Doom II fanboi and for the life of me I cannot get used to swinging around and aiming with a damned "joystick". Driving/Flying isn't so bad but I prefer a wheel/flight stick which GTA doesn't support (on XB1).

Ahh, I sure do miss the good old days of 4 player Doom II over a telephone modem (or even better, when we all dragged our giant computers to a friends house and played at LAN parties for a super fast game).

Since I'm just as big of a sad sack of sh*t in 2018 as I was in 2013, I put in a good 4-6 hours on the days I have my PS4 turned on. Which is most days.

So yeah, for now at least, in the wintermonths (which in Norway are half the year), I will probably put in the same amount of hours until RDR2 comes out.

About an hour a day.

More or less depending on RL, friends online and amount of tryhards faced during said hour.

If my Xbox is on, I'm more than likely playing GTA. At least four hours a day, lately, which is rather mortifying to think about...

I use to grind in online and I've leveled other people up for money and leveled myself up to 375 but now with the constant "hey shark cards are here" it's hard to play because they either want to you to buy them or grind several hours to get one thing then grind another several hours to get the stuff inside of that one thing (yes this is the bunker I am talking about spend 3 mill on a bunker spend 2 mill on a truck spend another mill or 2 to deck out your bunker to Max the security

Less this year, only really played once or twice a week. When i do have time to play I really dont know what I really want to do. Im tired of majority of game modes and any freemode business stuff.

Theres very little I want in the game despite having more than enough to spend.

Cackling Jack

Um I’m still playing during the week and on the weekends. So I take Tuesday and Thursdays off mainly to spent time with my partner and two dogs. Still find time to play a few hours a night to jam with friends/crew. Can’t be fked doing the math so yeah.

Nowadays if I spawn in a small lobby, Ill put in the work, ie, resupply missions, VIP work, maybe some DOs.

However lately Ive been spawning in crowded lobbies, so I go passive and drive the crap outta my cars.

This will amount to anywhere from 1.5-3 hours at most

I barely play anymore, not because i lost interest in the game, but it's because i don't have the time anymore, i only play once in a week now, with only 2 or 3 hours playtime per session

I deleted the game some months ago.

I did everything there is to do and explored every corner of the map. Mostly sick of the map.

It's just not fun anymore playing this game and thats to the point where I don't get people who say "Oh I still play 2 hours every day!". I just don't get how people can still have fun with this game.

Haven't played since July. Tired of getting kicked from public sessions and haven't enjoyed any DLC since the CEO/Bikers. I like a bit of realism, flying bikes with rockets and w/e this orbital thing is just... not for me.

I bought GTA on PC back in January 2016 , and I was an avid player in 2016, gathering hours and hours of gameplay ( my average may have been around 5-6 hours / day ) ... I think I was already lvl 360 by the end of the year ( so 1 lvl / day :) )

in 2017 I was still playing GTA on a daily basis , but It was less than it used to be in 2016 ... still , I was playing around 2-3 hours / day , which is OK I would say ...

2018 will be even less productive GTA-wise , you know I m growing up and I have many things to do IRL , plus I´m not living alone anymore ;) but I think I´ll still play everyday ,at least for 1 hours or so , especially if R* keeps supporting the game with good Event weeks and cool DLCs in the near future.

with that being said , GTAO is still the best game ever till this day :) I´m still enjoying GTA sooo much and I don´t see myself spending so many hours playing other games , although I had "my moments" with CS:GO , H1Z1 and lately PUBG ...

PS : my "casual GTA day" didn´t change much during those 2 years , I´m still doing the same things : Racing , Playing RPG Vs. Insurgents ( still a lot of fun till this day , especially with the crews ) , heists , double $ events , and businesses (not that much lately though)

Is this The Guy?

I was a day one player. There was a point where you couldn’t pull me away from this game for anything.

I think I only played the game once this year for about 20 minutes

2013 - Daily

2014 - Daily

2015 - Weekly up until April, dropped it for Bloodborne and various other games (I think Arkham Knight came out that year too, might have been 2016, I don't remember..), I don't recall playing much that year.

2016 - Probably played it 4 or 5 times. Again, I was busy with other games and going through some back catalogue on my PC.

2017 - Whenever an update came out, that is, if I wasn't busy with other games. I sank most of my hours into Dark Souls 3 and Breath of the Wild in 2017.

2018 - I've played a couple of times this week, will this continue? No. I'm bored of it already. Will probably go back to "whenever an update comes out".

This is pretty much me these days, too. And when I do log on, it's basically the same routine of flying around on the Oppressor, blowing up a few other players, going off to the hills, etc.

As mentioned by others, the introduction of a new map extension could breathe a whole new life into the game, like another full island or transport to, say, Liberty City, or something.

But it will never happen at this point. <sigh>

The map we already have is perfectly fine though and yet to be matched by any other game. It's just that its been devoid of any interesting gameplay for a long time. There's plenty they could add (that should've been there from the start): freemode bank robberies, prison breaks, airdrops, better street racing etc.

There are also some more improvements they could make (e.g. removing player blips) which it's now too late to change.

What are you smoking? The map is pretty average, I'd even go as far as saying it's poor. It wasn't particularly good in 2013 and it sure as hell hasn't gotten any better.

My time on GTAO is reduced between 2 to 3 hours max. The game is just plain old. I'm ready to leave to be honest. I can't find another game like this one necessarily that isn't a time sink. I really want to stop playing at this point.

What other map has as much attention to detail? You pretty much never see the same thing twice. Not to mention it's all so closely modelled after LA. It's not average and definitely wasn't at release.

Off the top of my head? Games with better maps:

The Division

Arkham Knight

Arkham City

Red Dead Redemption

GTA IV

Breath of The Wild

Watch Dogs (sh*t game, map is very well done though)

The Witcher 3

Oh and yes, I see the same thing every time I log into GTA V. It's the same with almost all games, it will never truly be randomised. I think maybe the Bethesda maps have a lot of randomised generated content, that being said a lot of it is scripted too.

While the GTA V map is based off of LA, I'd suggest maybe pulling up a real map of LA, it's not that small in real life and it certainly isn't that empty.

I meant you rarely see the exact same building model used in multiple locations. Obviously it's not randomised. I don't know how you came to the conclusion that IV's map is better, when GTA V has a more detailed (albeit smaller) city and a massive and diverse rural area.

And obviously it's not as big as LA, technical limitations are a thing. Again not sure how you came to the conclusion that it's empty- gameplay wise, yes, but detail wise, no. Keep in mind the Online map is less populated than SP, and there's no animals.

The Division and Watch Dogs have good cities but I'm not seeing how it's any better than GTAs. You might have a point with The Witcher 3 though, I'll give you that (edit: I take that back, I just booted up GTA again and the city is so much more bigger and detailed than that of The Witcher's, even accounting for the time period difference) The GTA V map is still by no means obsolete.

BLACK DYNAM1TE

I play Grand Theft Auto. So if GTAV/Online didn't exist I would still be playing some form of this franchise, either San Andreas or revisiting Gay Tony (by far the best written of them all).

When GTA Online was finally introduce I was happy to have a GTA that never ended and I wasn't even thinking about expansions and DLC at this time in 2013, I was just that impressed. I started off as a workaholic and the game really didn't give you any real information on the best direction to go so I was stuck thinking Survivals were the only things that pay @ $20,000. Keep in mind getting killed cost $5,000-$6,000 for hospital bills each death, so trying to build an account was near impossible with the first era of tryhards and kindergartners running around.

2015-2016 were the best Updates the game received. 2017 not so much and mediocre at its best, but from owning 10 cars to over 120+ different vehicles and aircrafts, etc... they definitely raised expectations for the next GTA entry, possibly even lowered them, hopefully Rockstar isn't using their best material for GTAV. Doomsday Heist easily could have been held off for GTA Online ver2 as it wasn't much to it or really fits in this installment.

2018 I still play as I did when I first started and don't see a change anytime soon. GTA was the only game I owned on Ps3 when I got back into gaming, and as in real life I relate to money, cars, guns and women. I'm old so my imagination cant do zombie games, aliens, Mario Brothers...I do own around 30 "considered" AAA games on Ps4 but nothing comes close or can top this franchise.

This year I want to see them focus more on Activities and Co-op DLC. I want more things to do, not more things to buy.
