Fortnite: Battle Royale

So there seems to be only 1 topic on this game but its from 2012...jesus...

Anyways, so whats everyone verdict on this game?

It's addicting as hell however i have gotten into heated discussions about this game with friends. As soon as i noticed players exploiting the aim assist (cant turn it off either), ppl abuse the shotgun and jump around like bunnies. Play the game or watch a youtube video of gameplay and you will see what im talking about. There are ppl who say im hating on "skill" or "its l33t l33t" but im bored of trying to have a convo with non-intellectuals. Anyhoo, i knew from the start, as ive seen it in every other game, when ppl are so desperate to exploit, like for example with this shotgun-bunnyjump combo, i knew it was a gateway drug to even more lowlife player behavoir...because as most of you know, a few days ago, someone discovered an under-the-map-glitch and if you try to join ANY lobby of fortnite, you will see more than >95% players trying to do it. It was inevitable. Yet tmw the game will get a huge update which im sure most of you are looking forward to. Hopefully the glitches and exploits will be patched so that we can enjoy the game.

PS: dont dr.phil my statistics/comparisons; coz its all subjective ;) ty in advance.

So what are your thoughts? You like the game? Hate it? In between?

Edit: Im srry i mispelled the topic title; i was in a hurry to create it.

Played it in Alpha testing back in 2015/2016. Uninstalled after an hour and never went back.

Assuming you mean the Battle Royale mode, I love it some days and hate it others, depends how you're playing and how your luck is with drops. It's one of the absolute best free games out there though, genuinely a lot of fun most of the time and given the games mechanics + fantasy style it can get pretty mental and hilariously stupid, so going out in a blaze of glory with 50 people left can be as much fun as winning a game.

I do wholeheartedly agree with you about shotguns, especially the pump shotty. It's just not fun to go against particularly if people are not only bunny hopping but dual pump shottying to skip reloads. It's become a case of can't beat 'em join 'em but man it can turn me off the game if I get insta-recked by a pump shotty. Luckily I've not played it recently so not ran into the under the map exploit, hopefully that's fixed before the big map update this week(?).

Yeah the under the map thing is brand new. It was found like about 5 days ago-ish.

I try my best to avoid the bunnies by sniping from far distances however im not always successful coz i still havent found the perfect zoom sensitivity setting because the zoom settings are just way too sensitive, pretty much like BF4. They have a sensitivity setting for every zoom plus for the zoom in general and plus for the character as a whole. Why, i will never understand.

If the shotgun is an OP as you guys are saying, it will probably get nerf'd.

It's not the shotgun per se. Its the fact that when combined with the aim assist, players cannot lock on to you when a player is jumping (aim assist cannot be turned off unfortunately) and players spam the jump button so that your aiming is even more erratic. What they need to do is to prevent players from jumping around while shooting. Keep 'em grounded

Nope. You can run/walk/crouch and shoot or you can aim and shoot. Aiming while shooting is obviously slower due to physics of course not to mention the separate zoom sensitivity for aiming. Players usually aim with rifles, pistols or smgs. Aiming with shotguns is not common. However i have seen players do the bunnyjump maneuver with assault rifles, pistols, smgs and sniper rifles, its just not as effective as shotguns

I don't understand. Couldn't you just shoot at them while they jump? Wouldn't the aim assist make it even easier?

Maybe I'm missing something.

You can try to but they jump erratically. Not only is it hard to move a randomly bouncing enemy, even if for a sec you would line up a shot, the aim assist pulls your aiming in other direction as soon as they do their 2nd jump. The quicker they jump, the worse it is. The more erratic their jump pattern is, the worse it is.

It's less of an issue on PC, console and it's controllers is where the pump shotgun has become a problem. Because it's so good when hipfired you don't have to ADS which makes shooting people at close range really easy. If it's a pump shotgun vs pump shotgun scenario it's even stevens, bunnyhops or not, but if you don't have a pump shotgun and you're against a dude with one who is bunnyhopping you're basically f*cked. The reason being a combination of controllers sucking at tiny adjustments and the fact that any sort of rifle, smg or pistol is pretty bad when fired from a hip so you have to ADS and doing that at close range against a bunny hopping pump shotgun dude is a disaster waiting to happen.

Regarding the bunnyhopping and other "lowlife behavior" I honestly don't know why you would expect anything else out of an arcade-y version of PUBG.

And to think that that was it's biggest draw for the console community...

Good thing I stopped playing in Alpha testing then.

Battle Royale was a mode they added late last year and not the co-op mode that they alpha tested, but seriously though while it's an issue it's just a balancing thing. The game is still fun, completely free to play with zero P2W and has developers who seem to know what they want from the game and add new stuff on a weekly basis. It's worth a shot if you have some mates to group up with.

Always seemed like a pubg and overwatch mash up to me (the BR mode). The original f2p survival thing looked fun, had a lot friends on ps4 playing it who enjoyed it a lot but never tried it myself.

^^the survival mode is a paid mode. You can pay for early access now and they stated that it will be a F2P game in the future. From what I've heard, they're almost completely ignoring the mode since BR released.

I lack skill in this game and when in a shootout, I always seem to be the first one to die. I enjoy watching my brother playing it, at least he knows what he's doing lol.

I'm very impressed by the F2P model of this game. Anyone can play it, anyone can rank up and get some goodies for free. You don't need a PS+ subscription, I have no idea how they managed to get that deal with Sony.

You can buy a battle pass, which lets you unlock a bunch of cosmetics, xp boosts and so on depending on how long you play. I can't say that it's a bad deal. I'm not really into Fortnite so I won't buy it but I wouldn't blame anyone for purchasing it.

The individual skins are overpriced as hell though.

While this is a good game and seems to be way more polished and stable than PUBG, I'm not into those graphics at all. Looks way too cartoonish. I can't wait to see more games pop up in this gerne to find something I might enjoy more too. Fortnite is still an amazing alternative to PUBG, I think everyone should give it at least a try.

This has nothing to do with it being arcadey or similiar to pubg. That statement is irrelevant to the topic at hand. I am expecting player decency is all (in any game). Like in COD, players justify their quickscoping but in reality they're just looking for the easy kill. An easy way out. This happens in every video game. Player finds a flaw. More players learn of it. It spreads. Like Jason said, ppl tend to do the whole fight fire with fire thing. Others avoid them players and report it. In the end all your left with is a broken game where pretty much only the exploiters remain, so everyones equal. Someone has to find a better exploit to make themselves have an advantage. Its a rinse and repeat cycle. Fortnite is currently unplayable because a lot of players are under the map. They can shoot you from anywhere. If one person complains thru mic, all they say is "get better son". A for originality.

@Fashion Yes I too am glad its not P2W. The graphics are a bit off, i agree. I do find the overall game enjoyable. Its frustrating when losing but awesome when won. I do set up challenges for myself. Like I demolished Loot Lake completely and built a completely new structure on it including all of the island + the cave. 4 floors, windows, etc. My next challenge is the trainyard. Underground basement after demolishing everything

This has nothing to do with it being arcadey

Except for the fact that in every other battle royale game you cant bunnyhop with OP shottys. Also I didnt mentioned anything about the current glitch, so I dont see why you would use that as a defense of fortnite. And it's relevant in the sense that you were the one to bring it up and in the op you asked for peoples thoughts and opinions. I gave mine and you, of course, didnt like it, sorry I guess. My bad for not being into a f2p clone that seems to have just as many problems with cheaters as pubg does.

:( The point of my original post and jason posts were about exploits/unfairness in general. I never even heard of PUBG until a few days ago. This has nothing to do and wasnt meant to be compared to only battle royal games.

My point was that when you cater to the lowest common denominator by making your game play and look a certain way and by making it f2p, of course you're gonna attract more players with the tendencies to exploit/cheat and that fact shouldnt be all that surprising.

Yes. Psychologically speaking that makes sense and i agree with that. However, the fact of the matter is, these players have no bounds and infect every game out there.

Im just hoping they fix the issues by the time the update comes out today.

so it seems they patched the underground exploit and they slowed the fire rate of shotguns but yet ppl still do the bunny-hop method. I think the makers intentionally made it like this. The ratio of shotgun drops to other gun drops is overwhelmingly high :/

Downloaded it on PS4 today. Being as I like h1z1/br I can confirm I like this game. What surprised me, pleasantly. It appears you do not need PS Plus membership to play online and BR mode is free.

No complaints yet.

Played this a few times and then uninstalled it...

Love the visual style of the game though and the basis behind it is pretty sound, all that building crap put me off though. You don't have to build anything but people were building stuff so quickly, running and building barriers as they went and it really put me off.

A few friends and my son are loving this right now, I am watching them play right now and they are having a blast.

As for the 'way people play' issues Iroquois, that is just people being people. Any glitch/advantage or successful style of play spreads like wildfire and is aped in a flash. The only way to avoid it is to play with a group of like minded people, that is unfortunately impossible with this game.

You'll get used to the building stuff, it just takes some practice. There are indeed some great players on the battlefield that will kick your ass in the early hours and build faster than you can shoot, but you will get the hang of it eventually.

Cheers Fashion...

I might give it another go, who you play with is just as important as the game you play and I do know a few people that get on this regularly.

I love it. Best I've got is 2nd on solo before being taken out by some fag named iandy who was hiding like a little bitch. I mostly win duos with my man which is nice. :)

Not a fan of the main game tho. I could have cried wasting like £40 on it.. bos if you ask me.

Btw, it seems they now updated the game so now we can turn of aim assist which now helps us target hoppers more easily

Confined to Xbox one X and limited in terms of Battle Royale games (PubG Bugfest aside) so after a couple of times installing, uninstalling and reinstalling. I've decided to admit, Partly through peer pressure and the friends I lay with most regularly is that Fortnite is in fact my guilty pleasure.

I've played and enjoyed a somewhat buggy PubG but the bugs and glitches are many and sometimes outweigh the gameplay. Fortnite however offers a greater fluidity and the shooting mechanics are actually satisfying despite it's cartoon aesthetic. My only  gripe is in fact the building. I'm no pro or try hard and at first it can put you at a serious disadvantage although Epic have tried to balance it out with various controller setups. One of which I use and is 'Builder Pro' so I can build much faster than I usually would.

The main selling point for me is the constant content dished out on an almost daily basis. The array of skins and challenges is thrown at you and rewards are around every corner. Something that the PubG boys should have taken note of instead of the school shoe drops from crates I get multiple times. Im not here to bag on PubG in favour of Fortnite and would probably prefer to play PubG if it wasn't for the pleasure reducing glitches and bugs.

Anyway I'm off in search of that first solo win. Duos and Squads I have been successful but although a multitude of second places have been achieved. That solo win still evades me.

Gamertag is Fakinell if anyones that way inclined and wants to squad up.

The gas has your back in solo.   Move with the gas.  Avoid contact with players.  Rumble with last 5 players.
