Grass has been removed from GTAO?

Since the latest DLC something caught my attention and I wasn't sure what.

Untill today I was driving at the place and it caught my interest: grass has been abscence from Online, no matter what settings you use.

Graphics settings hasn't been changed since almost 3 years. Did R* has changed them? Unintended or just another lazy f*ck-up like we

know R* removes stuff to "fix" something?

SP and Online map has a lot of changes. Rockstar did that for optimization.
You'll be missing tons of props, foliage and of course animals in Online.

I know about the animals. But the foliage, like shown in the screens is actually since latest DLC.

I do a lot of heists, just like Series A where you have to drive the trucks or Technical and cruise around the map a lot too.

But whole map seems to be bald now.

Relying on spaghetti coding and a heavily-modified yet outdated engine for over four years will lead to some corner cutting here and there.

 

Trading some grass and the beautiful dynamic particles that make this map a spectacle for some bunkers and weaponized memecars is totally worth it, amirite?

The last image looks like the settings are changed to normal/default the lowest of them. Then you only see bushes and trees and so pretty much nothing else.

I will say this. I remember when the ps3 version looked incredible when it first came out. Then with each new update it decreased. What I've noticed is a slow decrease in graphics quality with each update on NG too.

Exactly. The screen with no foliage is the same setting changed to normal/default and my graphics settings has never changed since almost 3 years.

And the other guy says it's not changed on PS4. Before Doomsday DLC dropped, the foliage in Online has been the same as in SP.

Never got issues with game's performance for the past 3 years and this is with 4770 and GTX780.

Clutching at straws here, but is this an after effect of the snow, with everything trampled down?

 

Report back in a week or two and tell us if the grass has grown back.

Maybe your system has a problem? I had some map loading issues myself today during stuntraces.

I'll check it out later. But it is just so weird grass is there in SP and not in Online and we of course can't load grass mods in online.

And of course I have to restart the game when changing Grass setting.

Might have to post the contents of your settings.xml file.

 

I'm on PC too, have a GTX 1070 but leave the grass set to High and it's a lot more dense than that.

Still have my grass on PC set to ultra and i believe its still same as ever. Have to properly check though

I have checked again and it seems to be random. That one time foliage is not there, next time it's there.

Settings.xml has been the same past 3 years and still using my GTX780. But I do know for sure this random foliage wasn't there before Doomsday DLC.

Windows7 has also been kept the same when this PC got build. I don't expect R* to "fix" this random foliage thing any time soon nor at the new DLC

so I got to ignore this "bug".

The grass has been lowered on PS4 though, there was more of it and taller on ps4 release than it is now. The weather has been toned down too.

This might be in favour of performance, which usually does take a slight hit just for being online. I'm guessing it's the various scripts that are running which causes some of the FPS loss, as driving vanilla vehicles in some parts of town - which is already toned down online vs single player - can still drop the FPS by as much as 10 vs the usual. In my experiences anyway.

I just checked my PS4 on the story mode and online mode. I still have my tall grass.
