What is the point of subforums for every new update?

I remember there was a subforum for Smugglers' Run and now I can't find it. What is the point of subforums for every new update? Why not just allow topics to be posted in the general GTA Online forum instead of making a new subforum and deleting it when the next update hits.

If anyone can find the Smugglers' Run business knowledge thread, I'll appreciate it.

Because the mods like to waste their time.

Easier access, imo. Some topics get lost in the sea of others, but in the subforum, it's easier to locate certain topics regarding the newest DLC. Yezzir

I think it's quite handy to have the latest stuff in one place. There's lots added over a short time, it helps stop the main page getting clustered, as there's many a newer player that's looking for the older stuff.

Search it, or just google whatever knowledgebase/topic you're after, as it'll pop up there quickly too.

So people can find things related to the newest update in one place. One thing I don't like is how they update the subforum to the latest update when it comes out and completely dissolve the last one. They should keep existing subforums and make new ones as newer updates come out.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at. At least leave the old ones up. There used to be so many good threads under those new sub forums.

The point is to discourage posting.

Less posting means less moderating.

More subforums means less conversation, which means fewer arguments.

This is why the Bitch & Moan Thread is the only thread worth a sh*t anymore. It's the only thread where people can say what they want to say.

The rest of the forums are castrated by bureaucratic, sadistic pedantry designed to please the site staff at the expense of the forum users.

The forums have been ruined for years now specifically over the staff's insistence on compartmentalizing everything.

I think the subforums are pointless and they should just allow players to post their threads here in the main online section.

Because they're often very active they would just as easily pop to the top like any other thread in this section. So for all the "it's easier to find" comments, I'm not sure how posting them here would be hard to find. Is this thread hard to find because it's not in some forum suggestions section? No.

Then there's the idea of deleting the section after the fact. All the threads are cycled back into this one anyway so why not just cut out the middle man?

The next idea of keeping multiple sections open for each DLC, and just adding more and more and more sections for every DLC, is even worse than the current setup.

Less is more.

I like the current setup. Whenever a new update comes out, I always look at the top of the forum first.
This saves a lot of sorthing through the "WAHT IS TEH BEST SUPPER CAR??? WRITE IT DOWN" tripe.

The threads about the latest update could easily get lost among the more general online topics since there's new ones almost everyday for both things. I think the subforums idea is actually really good but don't like the fact that each existing one is deleted after the new update comes out.

Added a poll - don't think people's opinions was ever asked about it before.

I can't answer the question though, wasn't my idea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah and the fact that you propose a never-ending amount of subforums for literally every single DLC that comes out is even worse. It's actually better that they get deleted because at least the threads are cycled back here at the end.

How could the thread get lost if people are actively posting in that thread? Is this thread lost despite the dozens of other topics on this page? If your concerns had merit this thread should be in the forum suggestions section. Why isn't it moved there? Probably because it'd be obscure and few people would even bother to post. Which is exactly the problem of all these random subsections.

The idea is to get the most views and the most responses and the best way to do that is to keep them all in one place.

People then make the "oh, it'll clutter the main section" complaint. Clutter it up with talk about the latest DLC? How is this even clutter? This is a section about GTA Online. What better topics need priority over conversation about the latest DLC? Few things of any substantive basis are ever posted here to the point where active conversation about the latest DLC would be "clutter" or some detriment to the vibe.

The other thing is, it's not like the discussions in this section avoid the latest DLC and no one ever talks about that in here. The new content sparks threads and comments in this section literally day by day, leading to redundancy with the new section. If you believe in redundancy then you believe in multiple sections all discussing the same thing. For example how many Bitch and Moan threads do we really need?

Cant-B-Faded

As for deleting the posts, I can't speak to that- I'm not familiar with the process in use.

But it seems to me that a temporary subforum is great for keeping all the relevant posts in one spot.

As long as we're complaining, I wish the Tuesday Morning News was faster to update. As it is now, the quickest way to find out what changed that week is to view the vehicles section and see which appreciation thread is on top.

GAUNTLET HELLFIRE

I don't really like it. I took a break from the game and the forum for about a year and it was in that time it was first introduced and it took me about a month to even notice it there. I would prefer the heist stuff in guides and strategies, anything vehicle related in the vehicles section, quick questions pinned in the main section and everything else here. I keep forgetting it's there and instead of posting in the quick questions thread like I should be I'm asking update related questions in the general chat thread.

Maybe that just helps to sort possible future update related threads.

I voted yes. It allows the new content related stuff to have its own little section and not get cluttered with the GTA Online main section.

Within the first 2 days of the update there can be 4 or more pages of threads. It helps contain clutter especially when 1/5th of them are not duplicates from people not reading the 1st page to see someone already made it.

As well as a better navigation for "new things here"

Okay. Then they should leave the subforum up. There was so much good advice in the MC business sub forum. Now it's all gone or hard to find. The sub forum for every new update isn't actually a bad idea as it makes it easier to find specific information but deleting it afterwards isn't good.

I like the subforums, just not that they get deleted once a new DLC is out and pretty much every thread of the old subforum disappears into the abyss of the forum.

Don't have a problem with it but do we NEED 3 B&M topics though?

we have the regular 1,the SM version and the doomsday version. It's a bit pointless since we always post in the regular one no matter the subject and it doesn't cause any problems.

I hardly look at them, I just head to the DLC announcement, DLC speculation or the vehicles sub board its all the same information anyway and at least then I can refer to a post or something with ease. I voted no because they are pointless

Idk I like having an easy place to find information about the latest update.

But I have a serious issue with needing things to be organized and separated, should probably seek mental help about it.

Four years ago I swear there were no subforums. Rockstar may now have just had their busiest year, but this place surley hasn't. Four years ago, the bottom of the first page of threads was updated 2/3 minutes ago. You just couldn't keep up with it. Why they waited so long to add subs, I don't know. Now the place is quite, they may as well reduce them.

I like having everything pertinent to the current update in one place. It's true that previous update threads get kind of black holed, though. I'm not sure what the solution would be.
