Sootyjared
Hello people of gta fourms, i have bought gta 4 on steam and is currently trying to mod it. Having disabled live and installed a trainer, i thought i give car mods a go. However i don't have \common\text\american.gxt Is there any fix for this? Sootyjared
Reinstall the game. Still telling me that i haven't got one? Edited January 3, 2018 by Sootyjared
jaqub
It should be in your \text folder. You cant find it somewhere else in the IV root. In that case, the file is missing. You just need to reinstall the game. We also dont share any files or if its even in a piracy case. Im not sure if steam made errors durring the installation...maybe you should let other programms closed whenever you install something.

I do have one in the text folder, but it doesn't seem to get recognized. Although i have found away around the issue with openIV and that works, other programs like the Vehicle Mod Installer and sparkIV doesn't bizarrely. I might mess around and see if i can work it out, thanks for the help. jaqub
hal210
I noticed this issue too ,i have ALL the correct game files in the game folder ,i thought maybe i could try running the mod installer as ADMIN but it didn't help. I did a check and realised i didn't have version 1.5 installed ,i had an older version of the mod installer. Installing v.1.5 fixed the problem. If you have version 1.5 already ,one thing i did notice is after installing it the first thing it asks for is "write permissions" ,so it's also possible that the permissions have been lost ,maybe try re-installing the mod installer again and set the permissions again on the first panel that you see after opening gta4 mod installer for the first time. P.S: This is the one i installed: https://www.gtainside.com/en/gta4/tools/50777-vehicle-mod-installer-v1-5/ Edited March 1, 2019 by hal210
