Sukhoi
GTA 5s map is vast its huge and beautiful, let there be no mistake. As a multiplayer experience, meeting other players organically is kind of the point of the game. However, it was initially designed with this in mind, and content was balanced accordingly. In its current state, it is one of the most crowded open world multiplayer games, and one of the least balanced in terms of map-size-to-content ratio. Meeting other players is one thing, but not being able to retreat to a secluded area at all is another. If you have something to do in the city, you have almost no chance of doing it without encountering another player. Dont get me wrong, i love this game and i play it alot with friends. But lately it feels to me that the content is a bit "too big for the current map" and its not me who thinks like this, most of my friends are talking about it aswell. I know what you guys / girls are thinking, put on passive mode, well i've tried that a couple of times and i must say the game is quite different if you cant have business running hehe In most other MMOs, this wouldnt be an issue, but in GTA Online PvP is the default, and shooting someone as first reaction is the norm. Even if you dont want to urinate in the soup of the other player, they might not be similarly inclined, or they might just not know that you harbor no ill will. A map expansion would bring with it a number of benefits both for Rockstar and for the player base. For Rockstar, the most notable benefit would, obviously, be money. A map expansion would be big news, thus publicity, and would most likely lead to a large number of players who have left GTA Online behind to return. "i know quite some people that quitted the game for online being so crowdy" Additionally, if Rockstar would add a mechanic that, say, charges for plane tickets to reach the new map area, the added costs might drive up Shark Card revenue. On the other side of things, the players would benefit from a greater amount of space to play in as well as a whole new area to explore but one issue remains. Simply adding another area wont solve the crowdedness of the existing map. Either content already available would need to be relocated like no more executive offices in Los Santos, only in the new area, for example or instead of a map expansion, you could replace the existing map with a scaled-up version of it. Wed still have Los Santos and Blaine County, and geographically everything would be more or less in the same place, but there would be more land to cover. In any case, if people at Rockstar keep up their current rate of DLC releases, this crowding effect will become much more apparent very soon, and if they plan to keep GTA Online running through 2020 (which seems absolutely viable, based on sales data),theyll definitely need to look at map expansions sometime soon. Its something that bothered me a bit last couple of months, let me hear your thoughts. Florpus
Wish they would add more to the map, although I do enjoy what is already there. It is a pretty good size, highly doubt we will ever get additions to the map anyhow though. No Use For A Name
It feels much smaller now that we have multiple planes we can spawn nearby. Makes getting around the map much easier. We Are Ninja
HeavyDuke
black text + wall of text = ill give it a pass Same here. Although i agree with the fact GTA V's map is small. Which at it self isn't bad. But i wouldn't ever want to replay it when the next GTA is released. Unlike the small GTA Vice City map, that was small but golden in my book. III-Ari-III
Current solution: swap session until you find one that suits your needs. Future solution: GTA 6 will come, and we'll be in a whole new world. That's pretty much it. I kinda agree but the way R* drip feed everything over years makes me think they might still release a map expansion before 6 releases. Key word is "might" though, if it's not profitable for T2 chances are we'll be stuck on LS island until 6 hits as you say. Either way LS is not tiny but it certainly isn't big. I'd like it to be +200km/sq in GTA6 or it'll just feel like the same old game. We'll need more than one major city that's for sure. Nutduster
Size of the map is not the real problem here. The map is quite large for only having a max 30 players on it. The problem is a combination of: - Players always on radar - Easy access to flying vehicles - Incentivized (or at least not discouraged) PvP as the go-to free roam activity In short, players always know where you are, can get to you quickly, and always want to kill you. They're only not going to bother if you're so far away that their journey itself would be boring. If you're both in the city, that's close enough for most of these miscreants. Spreading out points of interest a little more might help, but facilities, bunkers, MC businesses, and missions related to those things are already all mostly outside the city and range as far north as Paleto Bay. It doesn't help that much because of the factors I mentioned above. If you had the exact same map and content, and same 30 player cap, but no one was ever on radar, I promise you the game would feel almost empty. jazzbone
The map size is good. Familiarity and not size is the current problem. No matter what really cool dlc we may get it is still the same old map. A whole new game map is what is needed for veteran players. That new map could be GTA 6. However a GTA 6 game may be at minimum 2 years away with maybe a late 2019 as the earliest release. The map of Gtao does have a different feel when playing in private as apposed to public lobbies. Private can be solo or cooperative while public is various levels of competitive running amok. All activities and jobs should thus be playable in private where cooperative mp may be chosen over the chaotic running amok found in public lobbies while in free roam and or attempting to earn money. Sanches
It's not "bit too small". It's too small.Like really, Rockstar are using same places over and over again for different scenarios. The best example is LSIA hangar, which you can buy and you'll be robbing in Doomsday heist. Also you look for some maps in this thread and pretend how cool it would be to play there. But then realising that you can't and probably gonna get upset, so nah. Don't check that thread. elfoam
The map was fine for a long time, but it's been a couple years now since I've seen a place I hadn't been before and once you get so familiar with it, it's really time for a map extension. They've left it too long but I think it's something they will have to do soon if they want to extend the games life a few more years.
Jimmy
It's vast and yet small. Rockstar tried to make it their biggest map yet but the amount of players have increased since GTAO's popularity. I hate the fact a lot of places are repeated over and over. There are times when I wish for map expansion ask to myself: Offical North Yankton DLC when? P.S: Stop writing in black. It's annoying and hard to read. thepiebaker
If C* Keeps to their word that online is separate to V while sharing the assets and we'll carry over to VI and use VI assets when it releases. We can expect a map expansion at that time. North Yankton I would say shouldn't be out of the question to be an expansion in the mean time. elfoam and SHADOW OPS

Sanches
Kind of off-topic but it's my imagination or Los Santos itself feels smaller than Liberty City from GTA IV? That's probably because of architecture difference. LC has giant buildings and that makes you feel like an ant. Plus in IV there's no super fast cars which gives an illusion of big city. And you can't fly around on a bike to see map's borders (atleast in original IV). Yellow Dog with Cone and jazzbone
Jimbatron
Kind of off-topic but it's my imagination or Los Santos itself feels smaller than Liberty City from GTA IV? I don't think it is but it has longer straighter roads which mean you can get from on side to the other quicker giving that impression. I think the map size was ok. There is such a thing as too big or you'll spend too much time just going from A to B. More enter able interiors would be my preference if the open world would be expanded. jazzbone and Yellow Dog with Cone
Lonely-Martin
Hard to read atm, going off the title more. I agree that after 4 years this map to some can seem small after long. But I can't see it. I can see us maybe returning to North Yankton, maybe on Doomsday-like heist scenario's and such. But nothing permanent. I feel, looking back at how much this game made upon initial release, and long since then, that the next GTA/GTAO will feature a story mode in a way... It'll be shorter and we'll be the protagonists, lol... With so much depth to create things and such to make our characters come alive. Sort of a glorified prologue/tutorial and such. The we go live... Larger map, more of it all. Go nuts as to what that could be, lol. Anything's possible, IMHO. They get the 'day one ' sales like old, probably after this one, breaking more records, lol... Then the recurring spending... Of course, we're still in grey areas in the gaming world in regards to microtransactions, not bringing it here, lol. But as good as shark cards did do for them, I feel with a newer, much larger map is worth so much money to them in terms of both initial and longer term money, you know?. For now, I can see a Navy/Shipping contraband DLC come... They have the basics down. Crates, or passive income. They have the history of adding weapons, and another $1m or two on the price, of older vehicles too. And with us using the outer waters more that could widen the map for many too, especially if it pays well. People will venture and it'll mean a bigger map without much effort from R*'s end, as we know their resources are more limited than they once were on this game. For the haters of this DLC theme, it's not my bag, but to each their own. They can still add cars and other things, looking at Doomsday Heist, it added much more than just a heist, you know?. Some of these cars are bang on!. I just feel it could be easy and ideal from R*'s end to get another bump for a spell. Worth a try, they've thrown a few things at the game, some great for me, others not so much. I don't blame them for that, just cautious of the potential for it to go too far. So I hope that a DLC like this could be added but offering more than just boats with guns for $2m, lol. GTA's potential before GTA V/O was huge. After playing these years, good or bad, their potential has only grown and grown... This game could go on to be something even better if they get it right, for all. kenmy13999 and Sanches
