The GTA Online Double-Action Revolver Unlock for RDR2

As some of you may know, in the past few days there was a treasure hunt found in the GTA Online files, where, if you completed it, you would earn a Double-Action Revolver in GTA Online, and after 50 headshots with it, you can unlock a variation of it in RDR2 as soon as the game is available and you log-in with your Social Club account.

Rockstar has released this today and it consists of a set of 4 clues you must find to get to the gun. There are 20 locations for clues and they're randomised for everyone. You start out by receiving an email from a van der Linde address with a picture for the next clue. The other three will be next. (Thanks to Borgeitor, we know that only the first clue with the letter and the last one with the gun seem to be randomised)
The game presents you with a "?" on the radar and a radius where to find the clues, and you'll be able to hear a dreamcatcher-like sound the closer you get to the clue. Once there, you can inspect the clue and hear a very satisfying RDR-like sound effect and go to the next clue.

The gun will be marked on the radar once you find all the clues, and it will be yours in GTA Online. Perform 50 headshots (both NPC's and players) to win a variation of it in RDR2.

The sound really is damned satisfying and definitely hypeworthy for RDR2.

Location of all the clues (these will be randomised)

Update: A little post update, and definitely speculation worthy... The clues we find begin from a letter saying the family was torn apart by the treasure, and end up with two dead bodies (with finding a naked body first, a shovel and the empty gun case) with guns by them, two hillbillies, which is where the gun is. I wonder to what extent this ties in with RDR2.

Enter a session and quit your property, then wait around 5 minutes to receive an e-mail from a van der Linde address.

I wonder if that means the variant is the same as the one in GTA Online and means the universes are connected somehow

I haven't played GTA Online in quite a while but I'm definitely going to have to get back into it now because of this. Well played, Rockstar.

That level of detail almost confirms that there will be first person in RDR2. I mean, why should they make a detailed first person model for GTA Online when there will only be third person in RDR?

He means the gun is overly detailed, which it is. It has a whopping 7 thousand polygons, and I think is the most detailed gun model in GTA thus far. Which means it could've been extracted from RDR2.

BTW it seems that only the first clue (the one with the note) and the last one (the one where you pick up the gun itself) are random, the other three seem to be the same for everyone.

No way it's not ripped from RDR2 really, the detail + animations are a step above what we have in GTA V.

Don't we know that already??? Because of Jack Marston's Book in Franklins House?

I see it as an easter egg instead of the two universes being connected. After all it's all what you believe it to be, right?

In RDR 1 they talked about New York City and California. Which are Liberty City and San Andreas in the GTA universe... Either the book in Franklins shelf and the revolver are easter eggs (the revolver obviously for cross-marketing) or they have now connected the universes.

I like how it sounds identical to the double-action revolver from Redemption 1.

The only logical thing is they renamed the city and state before 1980s

Can anyone confirm if this treasure hunt is (or not) available on the PC version too? I stopped playing GTAV a few months ago and first the new heist, now this, maybe i found some reasons to install it again.

I know the game is not announced for PC, but i wouldn't mind doing the mission if it was available. Just to unlock the reward on my Social Club account. And if and when it arrives on PC, to have that reward ready.

Wait a moment... IF you can achieve the revolver (plus this "unlock the revolver in RDR 2") through the treasure hunt on PC... doesn't that mean RDR 2 will be released on PC one day?

I'm sure it will be released on PC and we won't have to wait as long as we did for V tbh. They detailed in the Newswire article the reward was for XBox One and PS4.

Nah, California and Manhattan are mentioned in RDR. Different universes, just a fun easter egg

Lemoyne outlaw

this is so cool. i love this. its a fun little hunt. its not hard. and i love how it takes you to places you normally dont go. i also love how easy it is. i was worried it would be a hard thing to do. it only took me about ten minutes.but it was fun. an even better part is that you dont need to get your headshots on players. they can be on npcs. so i went to the 24/7 robbed it and just killed all the cops. it was so easy yet so fun. i think they should do something similar again. like instead of a revolver they could do a lever action rifle. like the winchester. but its just an idea. im very thankful for this. thanks rockstar.

Gotta learn your lessons buddy.

Why would they add all those story wise details including the name of the family or company owning the stage coach ?

There'll be more to it clearly.

I truly digg the animation for holstering the weapon. your character flips it, and then it goes back into the holster. like dem cowboys back then, I guess, nice touch!
