Beta vs Final Vehicles

I decided to make a comparison thread similar to Manhunt/Manhunt 2 Vehicle Discussion, as I think it will be interesting to compare the newly uncovered beta vehicles vs their final counterparts.

 

I will start with Cheetah vs Rocket (or Testeros, model is same):

While shape-wise it remains almost the same, notable changes in the final version can be seen in the more detailed front window, removed front plate, replaced badges with emblems, almost completely remodeled rear, smaller rear plate, modeled exhausts and re-positioned front wheel arches. Also not limited to Rocket only, all vehicles in beta appear to be 10x smaller.

 

In my opinion, Rocket looks better, but only after the wheel arches are re-positioned like Cheetah's.

The vehicle size in final versions were reduced but not that much noticable. Early 2000s saw the removal of front plates in vehicles around the US, which is why they removed the front plates I guess. The window grills were better detailed and mostly the poly quality of models were improved to make it seem less.cartoonish.

Lots of reference to those in old promos, IGN Screenshots and pre-release content. There have been modifications based off Beta Vehicles as well.

No it's not. They are from vehicles.dff from the Android port. Not blaming you though, since the discussion regarding them were kept only in the GTA3D thread.

The only thing that bothers me about those textures is how they're mapped onto the car. They're not straight.

Wait. Which Android version contains this file? The one I got (1.3 AFAIK) has plenty of .img files. Variety of oldveh/fixedveh and actual gta3.img. Can't find vehicles.dff anywhere inside them.

 

And how would they fit more than one car model in a single .dff file? What's more intriguing is the fact that fixedveh.atc/.unc/.dxt/.pvr contains coach model with textures only.

 

EDIT: Nevermind, got it. I have another question though, how can I open vehicles.dff? Using a ZModeler or something else?

Did you extract these cars from vehicles.dff file, decoding them with HEX editor? Trying to crack dff structure but don't know how to start it.

The Hero extracted them a while ago with his tool iirc. I just released them to the public so no one would have to mess with that file at all.

I put them with all my alpha stuff pictures I have saved. Makes me think about putting together a data resource that has every alpha file, and found information put together.

Thanks man. I'll check it out. I will write to these people aswell. I'd like to try doing this myself aswell. Gotta learn somtehing new. Seeing you guys pulling great job, ripping cut content out of single files and what not.
