Akula Discussion Thread

This thing is a beast, truly, BUT yesterday had me using foul language because of the damn non-existent non-homing missile alternative.

Some guy on foot messing with me and my mate, I was going to surprise attack him but since there were cops around I couldn't get a shot. So f*cking annoying. I had just manually aimed at him and pressed fire, but oh no, all of a sudden I'm locked onto some cop car, so I missed, and he could shoot at me however much he wanted.

Is there any viable strategy to this because in my opinion this takes away half of the enjoyment of flying this thing?

I'm also not much for surprise attacking others. At those times this chopper makes racking up kills super-easy. But I want to use this in hairy situations, primarily to retaliate and not being the first aggressor.

I'm better off using the old Buzzard in these cases as it is now, at least with that machine I know that my missiles will hit the spot I'm aiming at.

Doesn't appear this bird was intended to go toe to toe in a fight. Unless it's against a Fagio or something. Mayhaps you should get a Hunter?

"When your zone is target-rich, to bombing mode 'tis time to switch"

Not only useful, but absolutely safe from on footers.

I'm so glad both the Hunter and Akula got bombs, they are so good on helicopters.

Thanks for the advice about bombs, everyone. I’m not used to using them, so I sort of forget they exist.

I was planning on buying the Hunter, but tried it out and didn’t get the feel for it. Also I hate that I cant retract the landing gears, it looks so weird when flying around with them. I understand its a great chopper though.

I’ll run a quick beginners course in bombing in the coming days..

The First Hunter

Aaaaannnd Akula is now my favorite heli (Sorry Hunter :'( )

Another anti tryhard/griefer story:

About 1 hour ago i started a Haulage in a 13 player public session.

The start was the You Tools factory/shop and the destination was in LS. (Distance was around 7 miles)

The first 6 miles very peaceful but when i was very close to the destination i saw two broomsticks making a beeline for me in the minimap (They were friends/crew members, one was around level 1000 other one 600)

Thankfully i always use my MOC cab for Haulage and it was nigh impossible for them to blow me up with their already used Broomsticks but either way they started spamming rockets.

I got the trailer to the destination and started driving off in my trusty MOC cab yet they were still chasing me.

I made a mistake and tried to kill one of them with driveby weapons thus breaking the bullet resistant window, one of them got off his broomstick and killed me.

When i respawned i went off the radar and got in my Akula then proceeded to kill the guy who killed me 5 times (And sarcastically messaging him "5v1 Lzzzzz") and the his friend 4 times (His friend left but he himself teleported in his Facility and i chilled in my Apartment after that)

I love my Akula :3

Solid Scorpion

I'm a boring olive drab/dark green aircraft guy but this thing deserved to be a bit more out there considering the fun I've had with it.

If you could remove the star and number on the Akula I would buy it. I still love my Hunter.

Finally got around to buying one of these bad boys on Friday and have been pretty much having a ball with it for the last 48 hours, what a blinding piece of kit. Especially good for "Hunting the beast", you can just follow them around for a while getting them lined up and let them collect a few checkpoints before coming out of stealth and blowing them to bits for a nice payday.

Keep loading up intending to do something constructive but when I look on the map and see aload of broomsticks and DeLorians flying about I can't resist, fire up Hostile Takeover to avoid insurance and BS & away you go for 30 mins. It's pretty decent in a dogfight against jets too, the rapid ascent dodges almost all homing missiles while the fast cooldown on the homing launcher means you pretty much always get at least one hit as long as you're pre-empting the jet's looping back at you. Bounties have no chance, neither do try hards causing havoc in tanks or Avengers. Even did a few of Hunter's favourite tricks by going OTR, landing in stealth behind a tryhard on foot, climbing out and blowing them away before flying off again. Most fun I have had in ages, brilliant.

All weekend I have only come across other Akulas twice (Xbox One) which is a surprise as I'd expect this to be a griefer's favourite toy.

Pulling the standard sniper out was a bold statement. He died a hero... a fool, but a hero.

it auto climbs and annoys the crap out of me

I am used to flying the cargobob which does the same thing, albeit slower, so it's not an issue for me. In fact I rather appreciate the rapid ascent.

The EMS level 4 upgrades work wonders for hovering in this thing. I tested it on the tarmac at Zancudo and started about 10 yards off the ground. I let go of the throttle and hovered around for a good 30 seconds before I had to hit the throttle again to keep from bumping into the ground. It makes it easy to sit in the clouds or just on the other side of a hill without landing and check your map, deposit bounty money or look at pr0n without worrying about hitting something.

So, even if it looks like a chopper, even if it sounds like a chopper, even if it shoots missiles like a chopper, most players will still confuse you with a pineapple and forget about you since they don't see 4 spinning blades on the radar.

This. A thousand times this! LOL.

Today I was in a lobby griefing griefers and hunting bounties. There were a couple of guys teaming up on lower level guys near the lake by Franklin's house, so I decided to go even the teams.

I took them out one at a time on two separate occasions after they went after that guy again. Then I left for a few minutes to let them think I was leaving them alone but I just flew low towards town, circled around the mountains near the west coast and came back from the other side.

By this time the two clowns had jumped in a car and were chasing the guy. I got behind them, killed them and left again. I came back 30 seconds later while they were scrambling for another car and I botched the approach so I flew right over their heads in stealth mode.

I thought they were on to me but no... completely oblivious, they were both looking towards the guy instead of at me so I doubled back and destroyed them again. Then I hovered there for a few seconds on the radar so they could see me then I bailed back towards the city. The CEO bailed the game and left his buddy there. I killed him one more time by the pier and he bailed.

It was a good day indeed, and I felt like I did the community a service.

A few here mentioned the highest percentage of their deaths are from other Akulas.

Sadly, that's sort of my problem too, only it's not other Akulas, it's mine. I've wadded it up on buildings, trees and the ground trying to control it. Finally switched from stock to smooth and like it better. More like the slow, clumsy buzzard. I'll keep that for a few days then try the other two settings and choose the best for me. I feel I will spend a lot of time in this thing so it'll be worth the $ to test all settings.

It sux not being able to call it when you already have a personal vehicle. I found I can switch to MC Prez and trick it by calling then returning a motorcycle, but that's a PITA. Are there other options?

That's pretty much the quickest solution I know, other one being dropping your PV, steal a fast car, and call the chopper while rushing towards the nearest spawn point.

+ 1 on the highest suicide rate after buying this one. It's going better with time, but at the beginning, when evading people shooting me with homing missiles I ended upside down on the pavement in the middle of a storm made with rotor blades and fire more than once :D

That's exactly my problem with the Akula and the Hunter. The hunter not so much since you can use barrage missiles, but since you can only have either homing or barrage missiles on the Akula, then why tf won't they at least let us manually aim our homing missiles? :'(

I love this helicopter but it's become the new Oppressor, but more deadly. So many players going off the map, bombing players, then sneaking away before they even respawn. I know because I do it, they do it, everyone does it. Good luck trying to fly around in a stunt plane or do any kind of business work without sudden missles and bombs flying at you out of nowhere.

Dam is it fun to fly though :p

Saw some dude moving cargo across the map, flew up in stealth to investigate, saw them in a cargobob being trailed by two NPC Savages. Being the good Samaritan that I am, I shot down both of the Savages and then accidentally shot him down. Stealthed away and sent him a "oops sorry bro" text. I think he managed to deliver the cargo anyway though. I wonder if he even knew what happened

I've been lusting after this thing since Doomsday dropped. This week my patience snapped, and with a little help from the crate and Gunrunning bonuses I managed to grind up the money to buy it.

It is beautiful.

Can't wait to strap some rocket pods on and begin the hunt.

I use my AA trailer to return my Aircraft/ask another(if damaged...etc), its interesting for peoples playing as CEO and who don't want/can't disband their org.

I love how people kill themself, leave the lobby or go passive when you disappear from the radar....

Meanwhile I'm already at the other side of the map chasing the next guy :D

Yesterday I helped a couple randoms fight off Griefers while they were grinding. People left so I jumped to another that had a couple crews grinding. I tested the water stealing supplies for my bunker and it went well. So I went to source a car and doucebag juampa016 started chasing in a deluxo. I made it to the warehouse just in time. He went north so I called my Akula and went after him after starting haulage. Killed him and his buddies, sometimes 3 in a vehicle, about half a dozen times. Destroyed his deluxo 3 times, a heli once and an oppressor once with no insurance payouts LOl. I was getting ready to message him to see if he was gonna go after my sh!t any more but before I could I got disconnected. Had to reboot Xbox to get back 9n 15 minutes later and was LOLING the whole time. I friendedd him so I could find him again tonight. Only this time I'll have a few friends of my own to fawk with the little cockroach.

I really don´t know why so many are using homing rockets on the akula.

This guy could have killed me with ease by gaining some altitude and destroying my main-rotor with a well placed barrage.

Not everyone can do a "well placed barrage"

Usually it's a fairly awkwardly arranged barrage

YMMV

Yeah from my experience with Hunter it was always:

*barrage attack* (fail)

*barrage attack* (fail)

"ahhhh f*ck it"

*switches to normal rockets* 1rocket=1kill 100% of times.

I guess I had to much practice with using buzzard rockets.

But I might get another Akula just for barrage alternative (when they give me more hangar space...)

For the same reason peoples use Buzzard's Homing On missiles instead their minigun, when facing another heli.

I wonder though if Its possible to disable targeting, I don't like that cooldown on Akula Barrage, hence I still prefere spam Barrage/Homing missiles with Hunter.

Or just grab Savage/Buzzard. I would definitely appreciate Akula if the solo gun were good as Buzzard's ones :-(

@ SHOKKERZ91

Well I put homing missles on my Akula to be able to deal with opressors and jets.

I would prefer it to have both lock on and freeaim missiles.
