Akula Discussion Thread

Went for barrage in my Akula - I prefer to deal with tiny blaat radius than dumbass homing rockets locking on police cars. Lack of countermeasures makes it redundant against other helis so why not just set it up against infantry

You don´t need countermeasures against other aircrafts, the tracking of those is super weak. The only rockets you can´t dodge are on the Ruiner, Vigilante, Stromberg and Deluxo. Everything weaker can be dodged.

Only the first kill is interesting here:

Another Akula with homing rockets:

This was a Oppressor with homing launcher support:

The akula can be used against other helis too, you just have to pre aim your barrage. The stealth feature is already powefull enough, the Akula doesn´t need countermeasures.

While I know exactly what are you talking about and believe you, I got way too much experience with rockets missing me and then randomly teleporting inside my tail rotor to simply trust dodging ;) Edited by TheBricktop

Man, this is a long thread. I haven't read through it so forgive me if this subject has already been covered(as it most likely has).

What is with the Akula and wanted levels? I get that you can make it stealth and then you will drop your wanted level but my problem is with the times i GET a wanted level just for using my Akula. I quite often do the mission "Time To Get Away" because i use it to go AFK while my bunker produces and this way i pay nothing in upkeep and this mission allows me to enter my property in sandy shores. When i want to play again i finish the mission just to get the 20k from it and usually i use my Deluxo or my Buzzard. The only resistance i get are the FIB on the ground that i take out and the the next wave of FIB that comes when i pick up the dude i was sent to get. But in my Akula just as i clear the ground and are just about to land i get a wanted level and cops come and make a mess of things. It is the only vehicle i actually get a wanted level with in that mission. I could shoot all the cars up i wanted and would get no wanted level. But in the Akula i get one when all i do is follow the mission objectives.

I'm pretty sure i have experienced this in other cases too but i can't recall them right now. Is there a way to avoid the wanted level or is that just something you have to accept?

The Akula is a really mean and deadly diver, like some sort of armour plated peregrine falcon on steroids. As the copter tends to drift upwards as you fly forwards. I use this so I can stalk my prey at a great height, before plummeting earthwards face first at a staggering rate to pump them full of missile juice. Glorious. As long as I manage to pull up in time...

I am sure most of us have realized that the Buzzard is really a light heli just after flying the Akula, lol

So what sets it off? Because in this mission i had shot a lot of people. It wasn't untill it was close to landing i got the wanted level. Is it just random when and if it happens?

It has its purpose. For example you could try to write you name on a wall. Or maybe splash some water.

But as in using it as a weapon?

...

^You must have already taken significant damage. Shooting the lights out causes damage of course, hard landing ect.

It took at least 45 seconds to a minute if not longer to take out a Buzzard with the pilot MG in the Titan escort air cargo mission. I'm talking steady, right behind it in close proximity without missing a round. They really are abysmal...

I notice I get a 3 star wanted in that air cargo mission when using the Akula, definitely SOMETHING wonky with the stealth mechanic causing a random wanted level during certain free roam missions.

I can take 2-3 missiles in my Akula. If the force of the first missile doesn't knock me into something. To be honest I would rather take no lock on while in stealth mode over chaff. I only use my Akula for hunting bounties outside of town, so being able to hit and run without fearing of being locked on to would be great.

sh*t I knew it! It felt so weird when I was managing to land several hits on the trucks and they simply kept going for quite some time until finally blowing up. That was in that bunker mission where you have to destroy several trucks until you find the supplies.

I thought it was more because of my poor aim with the machine guns, but damn even taking that into account it was taking way too long for them to explode!

I got to admit it's pretty useful when doing Biker missions.

I was stalking this guy driving an MOC in my Akula. He was broadcasting his location on the mic so I figured I'd see what he was up to. I swear, I was practically hovering right overhead, and he didn't notice me until I came out of stealth and blasted him with a few missiles. Then stealth, and fly off, since I really wasn't prepared to blow up an MOC (he had a gunner), but I put the fear in him. That's all I try to do.

Yes. Yes it is. Luckily for us not many people get that. :)

Picked up a passenger the other day and it started flying like sh*t, twitching all over the shop. Weird.

Is the Akula that silent? If it is then it's a really cool detail!

@Gridl0k, yes, that's normal. Not wanted and probably no planned but that's Cockstar for you.

No, the Akula is very loud. Most players are very dumb and don't think life exists beyond their beloved minimap.

That's sad, it would be cool if the Akula was the quietest helicopter in the game

Is there a specific button to press on xbox for when the copilot wants to use the turret?

I can seem to get it to work. And yes, I'm out of stealth mode!

Nope, it's automatically available all the time.

The reticle is crap though, it really could do with the Valkyrie's camera.
